I was able to borrow an OBD-II scanner to read the error code(P1818) currently displayed. I was wondering if the P1818 Error Code is related to a faulty Transmission Control Module (TCM).
View 1 RepliesI recently purchased a 1999 vw passat gls 1.8t. Initially the guy I bought it off of told me that when he was rebuilding the turbo he stripped the main shaft bolt, so it needed a new turbo. So I bought a k-04 off of ebay and installed it. The battery was dead so I replaced the battery as well. When I first tried to start the car it would start for a second kind of chugging and then die. I went to my local auto parts store and rented a scan tool and it gave me 2 codes. The first code was P1545 and the other was P1818. As far as how many miles the engine has on it I don't know for sure as the engine has been replaced and apparently no one knows how many miles it actually has.

View 7 RepliesLast month, I started my gti up and a "Start System Faulty" code appeared. The car started normal and drove perfectly fine.
I immediately took it in to the dealership and they could not diagnose the problem or turn off the damn warning! They released my car and said to come back in a few weeks.
So, two days later, the warning disappeared and I thought it was just an electrical glitch.
Fast-forward to last week, the warning light came back on and took it in again. I suggested that they take a look at the ignition switch and sure enough, they fixed it for me over the weekend by installing a new ignition switch and the problem is gone.
I'm getting error P0125 on my 2001 Echo, which points to possibly a faulty ECT sensor.
Where is this sensor located? Seems like under the air box? Is replacing this part as annoying as it looks? And, are there any other possible causes for code P0125?
In case it's related, I will mention that code P0171 (mixture too lean, I believe) is present as well, and the car does hesitate upon initial acceleration when standing still. Once it's moving, it works fine.
Maybe it's time to start thinking about replacing this car... it has 216,000 miles...
So of course it has to happen 3 weeks after my warranty expires. My CEL comes on and I have it read and the result is P0440. I find out that my wife has a habit of topping off the gas tank and so I am thinking that she has probably ruined the charcoal canister. It is something easy to replace?
I have an 06 limited edition... Yes, she will not be topping off any gas tank anymore.
If the upstream pre-cat sensor is bad could it cause a P0421 CEL error? 2001 Mazda Protege L4 2L 116,800....

View 2 RepliesIt happened to passat. Once I hit about 75mph on highway I get a stop engine (oil presser low light). It flashes than goes off once I lower my speed. I checked all fluids are normal. It throws a 12 code an says oil passage blocked, cam positioning sensor, skipped timing chain. These are what the code says could be wrong with it. The car runs fine with no hesitation at idle or normal city driving. I have already flushed the oil with cleaner, and still getting the light.

P0741 - Torque Converter Performance or Stuck Off

Here is my issue: I was lazy and waited a bit too long to get my oil changed. I finally did 3 days ago. I have been very busy so I decided to take it to a local mechanic to let them take care of it. They flushed the oil, ran other oil through it with a new oil filter, flushed that, then put in new synthetic oil with another new oil filter. They also replaced the air filter.
Everything was fine for 2 days.
Then, while I was driving in stop and go traffic, the "EPC" and "Engine Malfunction" lights came on. There was also a loss of power and the car seems to wait too long to shift gears.
So, I took it back to the mechanic who had it a few days prior. He pulled the code from it (posted at the top), and cleared the code from the car. That mechanic told me that I need a "cam position indicator sensor". He also claimed that what he did had nothing to do with this issue. I decided to check with the dealer. He cleared the code and I left. After clearing the code, the car drove fine for most of that day, then it returned.
I spoke with the VW dealership's shop manager and he said that he does not believe that is the issue at all and asked me to bring it in. He also mentioned a clogged oil line as being the potential culprit.
I have VW 1999 V6 Turbo Passat automatic Sedan.
It's Check Engine Light [CEL] is ON for a while. The code comes as 1476. The mechanic tried to erase the error, but CEL comes back after 60-100 miles. Clearing the codes works for awhile but Error reappears.
The code is for "EVAP Leak detection pump Malfunction/Insufficient Vacuum".
The local mechanic is not sure what to do about it and suggests me to visit the Dealer/showroom. After last time visit to the VW Dealer/ Mechanic, I am sacred to go again, due to exorbitant cost of the last repair. I don't think it was justified.
What should I do now? Where to start?

View 2 RepliesSo i got a 98 passat sedan used and was told it read a p0411 code. The person at autozone told him it was a cam sensor. The sensor was replaced. I know now from the manual that codes reads for sec. Air injection system , incorrect flow. It could be the vacuum lines. Now lets say it is the vacuum lines. Their is a misfire on cylinders 1-3.
View 4 RepliesI bought my first VW about 3 months ago (so excited!) It's a 2003 Passat, 5 spd, 1.8t. I've had one thing happen so far (until yesterday). On 4 separate occasions when I'd go to start it, it would crank for a few seconds before it would start. Then once it was running the EPC light would turn on. It seemed to be running normally but I turned it off and restarted it and it started normally and the light extinguished (the first three times). The last time (about a week and a half ago) it kept doing it each time I started it, and upon starting probably the 4th time in a row the MIL came on. I drove it about a mile, turned it off for a few minutes, then turned it back on and it started normally with no malfunction lights on. It's been normal since then. Until yesterday...
Yesterday as I'm accelerating from a stop light (I think I was in 3rd) all of the sudden the engine started running really rough and the MIL came on. I turned around and drove about 2 miles back to where I started at about 20mph. The MIL would be steady while coasting and flash while pressing the accelerator. I got a hold of a diagnostic computer and it came up with 3 codes...
1) P0322 Ignition/Dist Engine Speed Input Circuit No Signal
2) P0302 Cylinder 2 Misfire Detected
3) P0302 Cylinder 2 Misfire Detected PENDING
2003 1.8t passat wagon. 50k miles... The check engine light came on today. Oil and engine temp are fine. Can most shops plug in and diagnose? Can I get one of those code readers at Advanced Auto parts to read the error code?

The above error code was reported on the computer diagnose machine and it referred me to look into the vehicle ownership manual book BUT its rather unfortunate that i could not find that book. So, what to tackle or replace on the engine to enable the check engine lite go off.

I've checked both of my radiator fans and they both spin, so it makes me think that its the thermostat issue. If I am correct, any link to a replacement part? Or better yet a DIY? I've searched and no dice.
View 12 RepliesI have an 07 passat with a 2.0 4 cyl turbo and I have an error code of P0171 system too lean (bank1) but engine seems to run just fine, what this code means, am wondering if it is something I can fix or if it needs to go to the shop??
