This is an issue which I noticed last summer/Fall. It seemed to subside over the winter. The noise comes from inside the dash on the passenger side. The best description is one of a failing hard drive or dvd player skipping during a chapter. Kind of a repetitive buzz. The noise is more pronounced in the footwell than up top.
It is a b5 Variant 4motion V6 ... 110,000 miles ...
It only seems to happen every few days. I have noticed it when I come to a stop, then I hear a repetitive knock coming from under the front passenger side of the car. knock, knock... 7 times, in rhythm, not decreasing in volume, then it stops. Kind of like a gnome trying to get in from under the car... It does not sound like something is flapping or swinging as the knocks are consistent, it sounds mechanical in nature. The car is at the dealer right now for that and other things but they cannot get it to make that noise.

For the last week I have been hearing a ticking noise - seems to be coming from inside the dash board on the passengers side (glove compartment). The ticking noise begins when the engine starts up and stops when the engine stops, so the noise is continuous while the engine is running. The car runs well, no loss in power, nothing out of the ordinary, with the exception of the noise. I opened the hood and listen - the sound seems to come from inside the firewall.

I haven't seen where it enters but it doesn't appear to be from the moon roof, or the windows (doors seem dry) so I assume it's from one of the doors but the weatherstripping looks to be intact. It looks like there's a rubber outlet in the hinge area of the front door - could it be from there?
View 9 RepliesWhen the RPM get to about 1/2 way on the engine side of the display to nearing the power indicator area there is a buzz emanating from the passenger side of the engine compartment. It sounds like a heat shield on the exhaust (that's a total guess, it sounds like flimsy metal).
It is not the hood prop. It only happens in that specific RPM range and it is when the engine is cold or hot. I will be able to replicate it for the tech at Toyota because it is constant. It has been constant for quite a while but since it only buzzes in that range I don't drive with a constant buzz just accelerate or decelerate through it.
I have the 3.5 LX AWD 2004 Santa Fe 102,000 miles purchased new. My power steering fluid reservoir was leaking from the top a lot. I read here that the screen in it could be clogged. I went to the garage the manager never heard of such a thing he said, and never heard of a PS reservoir having a screen (I gave him the TS. He said if I got the part and wanted it changed they would change it. I did that. It was done 2 weeks ago and now it all dry under there. But, now.. there is a low whine on the passenger side under the hood toward the back, but when I put the A/C on or the heater on defrost (Not when heater is on, only in defrost) there is a loud rumble/hum from the same area. Shut A/C or defroster it goes back to a low buzz/hum again.
I had the power steering pump replaced at the dealer about 2 years ago, its not old. The noise is NOT any louder when I crank the steering wheel all the way to either side. The fluid since replacing the Power steering fluid reservoir is staying at the same level, full, no leaking. When I put everything on, lights heat only (No defroster), radio, lights the noise doesn't get any louder either, I tested that. The other night after driving about a half hour to and from a place I went to u-turn in a parking lot and that whine was louder for a minute and while driving forward slowly out of the parking lot getting up to speed.
When I asked about the PS fluid reservoir, I had also, asked the repair shop manager his opinion, of that loud hum/rumble when I put the A/C on (At the time I thought it only happened with the A/C when the compress popped on). He listened said "That's the A/C compressor it's going and its going and cost more to replace it then its worth on your 2004." So, that's the background.
Questions: 1. Just wondering if you think it is the A/C compressor that is the loud noise when on, would the A/C compressor even go on when the defroster is on, the A/C is off, and the heat on and there for still make that loud rumble??? Or does that defroster fact kind of mean its not the A/C compressor??
2. What is your opinion of the low buzz/whine noise now (When heat/AC off)? I can't pin point it totally in park when listening, its very low (Except that one point where it was loud for a few minutes driving out of the parking lot.) (The motor sounds a bit louder in it in front too just side observation)
I almost worried if the low buzz was the Transmission as its fluid hasn't been changed in a few years (Because the mechanic said sometimes changing the fluid when its been a lot of miles between can actually cause problems to the transmission) It was done at the dealer around 45,000 miles and now my Santa Fe has 102,000 miles.
Could the power steering pump be going bad in only 2 years from what I've described? Or could the PS fluid reservoir having been spitting PS fluid from the top for a couple of weeks have caused damage to the PS pump now?
The fluid never got lower then full when it was coming out of the top and only when driving, I kept checking it. The mechanic who put the PS fluid reservoir in said he had no idea if it leaked from the top due to the screen as he felt the screen had only minor debris that was not blocking a lot of the screen since its a big screen (He didn't look too hard though), and it was possible even a small crack in the reservoir could cause that same fluid coming out at the top. He said it could be either he didn't notice a crack either.
Or are these two noises possibly not related even though possibly from the same area on the passenger side under hood.
I've noticed over the past two mornings while driving to my office a sort of whirring sound for lack of a better word. It has only happened in the mornings. It has been low to mid-50s temp. The sound seems to be coming from the left side of the engine bay or inside the dashboard. Basically like a fan sound but this happens even without my HVAC activated. It doesn't seem like a big deal but the reason I mention this is because it's the first time I've even experienced this since buying my Touareg last year.
Interestingly, after shutting the engine off and restarting, the sound goes away. This particular sound is definitely noticeable, even with my stereo on.
I noticed the passenger front tire wearing on the inside, I have no camber plates. Presuming alignment is still good could this be from a worn strut mount?
View 1 RepliesI have a 2014 Camry SE with about 30k miles on it. Recently, I notice 2 rattles.
1) When I turn on my car, I hear a rattle/buzz sound for about 10 seconds sounds like its coming from the dash from my passenger side, then the rattle/buzz goes away.
2) There is a constant rattling noise the is coming from my driver side dashboard. I do not hear it on smooth roads but once I go through bumps or cracks on the road the rattle is noticeable and annoying. Sounds like its from the speaker by the windshield but i really cannot tell as i am trying to focus on the road. Maybe its something loose?
I've noticed when going up hills where the engine is working, there is a rattle/vibration that seems to be coming from the passenger side dashboard/glovebox area. I've opened both glove boxes and made sure nothing was in it and the rattle still continues. It sounds like there is a screw loose in the plastic inside the dash that is vibrating.
View 5 RepliesTruck-2005 F-150 XLT 5.4L - Currently when my truck reaches a speed of 45mph+ there is a methodical knocking sound that comes from the passenger side dash. This sound is on the interior and comes from the far right corner of the dashboard.(almost as if someone is tapping with there finger every other second). There is no correlation with anything else being turned on or off that affects this sound.(i.e. air) It simply happens once I reach a certain speed and is not an outside noise. When I slow back down under 45 mph the knocking subsides.
View 3 RepliesJust put on new wheels 19x8.5 all around on 235/35/19s. Figured to have no issues, not super low or anything. Passenger side front tire is rubbing on the inside well pretty good. Not on fenders as far as I can tell, just the actual inside of the wheel well. Fender liner is already out on that side as well. Not a thing on drivers side though, and the liner is still in. Thinking maybe just need an alignment.

View 4 RepliesI had this plastic on plastic sound on the passenger side dashboard...this started last weekend when it was cold outside and drove me crazy, I looked around and came up with this piece of foam under the hood and windshield bezel next to the hood hinge....After a few field adjustments on this piece of foam I took my truck for a test drive and its gone....for now!
View 2 RepliesI just replaced both driver and passenger side window regulators (they were about to fail but still worked) Prior to replacing them, my driver side door had a faint, yet repetitive rattle. I was under the impression a new window regulator would fix the issue. Needless to say, it didn't solve the rattle problem (though the windows are now firmly in place). I suspect it's coming from within the door panel itself. I've peeked inside the door panel without fully removing it and could find nothing. Maybe it's something loose that needs to be secured? I swear it's like Chinese water torture hearing that rattle and it's driving me nuts.
Edit: Holding the glass down, or holding/pushing on the door panel does nothing at all.
Recently been having a rattle sound from the inside ( passenger front side ) sounds like the door card area? Haven't been able to figure it out. Only happens when I accelerate "strongly". Have had my JoeZ axle back for a nice amount of time. Happens once in a while, not every time.

He stated that while performing my 10k service, he noticed that there was a crack on my lower engine cover (splash guard) on my front passenger side and that the tire was worn on the inside almost to the metal. He stated that a driver must of hit a curb or a pot hole at a high speed to cause this type of damage... My wife and myself are the only ones who drive it and we are sure we have not hit any curbs or gone over any pot holes at HIGH speeds... some pot holes but nothing my old jeep couldn't handle...
My complaint is that I was hoping that the TReg would turn out to be the off road beast that VW has advertised it to be, but am disappointed that only after 10k miles I need an alignment and a tire change and have not even been off road... what should I expect in the years to come.. I am hoping to not have to treat this Truck like a car...
So today I'm out running errands. Its hot and the ac is on. I notice water is coming out from underneath the dashboard on the passenger side. I pull the floor mat and water is everywhere. Soaked!! Ok so the ac water that's supposed to drip outside and underneath the car is now dripping inside the car. I pull off all the plastic crap, glove box to see if I can tell where its coming from. Not seeing it. Also some crap must have gotten wet because my check engine light is on along with a flashing vsr off light.
View 6 RepliesWe have a 2010 Hyundai Santa Fe. Over the last year, there has been a humming noise that comes out of the front passenger side under the dashboard. This humming noise starts when the car is in motion (above say 5mph) and then lasts presumably at highway speeds but the road noise sort of block it out. When we come to a stop, the humming noise persists about 5 seconds after we come to a complete stop and then goes away. I checked the tire and it's not rubbing anything and tire pressures are even. We had the tires rotated but the noise still comes from the front passenger side. We had a wheel alignment and the noise still persists. There are no issues with steering or braking.
I think it's probably related to the strut or suspension system? Is there a pump in the area? It's been a year and we've sort of gotten used to the noise, and nothing's broken.
Recently (last three months really), I've been noticing an oscillating squeaking noise coming from the passenger side of the dashboard on my '07 LS460. I've troubleshot the problem and have it isolated to coming on only when the A/C is turned on (recirculated or outside air- doesn't matter). When the A/C is off, the sound goes away.
No other squeaking noises at all coming from anywhere else on the car.
I have a sneaking suspicion it's related to the tensioner belt connected to the Air Conditioner, but I'm honestly not sure at all.
Might this be a more relatively simple belt issue? A/C is running pretty much all the time when the car is on- wouldn't be surprised at all if we've simply worn the belt through.
