I have a 2008 Passat and when I put down the back windows there is a horrible window noise. It's not a wind noise like "sswwwhhhh sswwwhhh" it's like a "WOMP WOMP WOMP" and it echos so bad I can't drive.
When I open up a sunroof or crack open a front window the noise disappears...it's the weirdest thing. I love driving with ONLY my back windows down and I can't....
I have bought a new 2008 Passat about 4 months ago. about 2 months ago, this weird pressure could be felt from the inside similar to having the sunroof opened or the rear windows opened. I took it to my dealer twice and they say that they don't feel/hear anything. I went on a 200 mile trip and regretted taking the passat only 20 miles into it. the pressure/noise thing is unbearable! I seriously am thinking of crashing this thing and making my insurance switch cars. it was never like this when i got it. I would never buy a car like that! I checked to see if the tires were the problem but found nothing. i am so frustrated at the dealer and with this car that it just sits there not being driven because i can not stand driving it. Again, it makes a weird pressure/noise feeling as if the windows are opened but they aren't!
View 13 RepliesI have a 2008 LS460L and the front driver's and passenger's windows have wind noise, sometimes worse than others. I also drove a 2007 which experienced the same problem. It is still under warranty, but not sure if there is anything which can be done. Not sure how a car with doubled panned windows can have so much wind noise.
View 14 RepliesI am almost 100% I have found the source of the rear wind intrusion that some of us are hearing. From day one, I have had a wind hissing noise from the rear door windows. After taking it to the dealer and them saying it was "normal", I have been on a mission to find the source of the noise. Well it is coming from a location that I never thought it would come from.
After trial and error, I found it is coming in around that shinny black triangle part in the rear door. There is a gap between the rubber and that plastic shinny triangle part. I used shinny black pinstripe that I got from an auto parts store to cover the gap. I test drove several times at speeds above 65mph and did not hear the noise. Unless you were looking close, you'd never know the pinstripe was there.
I have about 5,000 on my 2.5 SEL. Back passenger window seems to make that annoying wind/whistle noise if I get above 20 mph. Even on non windy days it seems loud. I will have them look into it at my 10,000 mile check up.

View 2 RepliesI have a 2007 LS I purchased a few months ago. Wind noise from windows is very loud. I applied the jmcraney fix this week - did it exactly as the directions say. Made no difference in wind noise - still get a bunch of wind noise through the windows. My LS has 70k miles so it is out of warranty.
View 14 RepliesPurchased my LS 460 last week and noticed when going 55 mph or more there was wind noise coming from both the drivers front window and passenger's front window. Decided to go back to the dealer and was told that is a known problem with the LS 460 (not the 460L because I was told they use a different type of glass which apparently has a better seal). You can't hear it with conversation or radio, but if there isn't anything on, it's there. Kinda like when a window is just barely cracked while driving is the sound you hear. I test drove a different LS 460 while at the dealer and was able to verify it too had the same wind noise. The dealer suggested that if there is enough comments made that Lexus would undoubtedly look into a "campaign" to correct the problem. Went online and checked a few review sites by consumers and noticed others had also commented on this wind noise. If you have the LS 460 (not the 460L) check it out...and if you hear it, consider filing it with Lexus Customer Service at 1-800-255-3987. Overall, a great car...things like this can happen with the first year of a body redesign.
View 14 RepliesThere is a noticeable amount of wind noise on the driver's side (obviously with the top and all windows up). Haven't ridden in the passenger seat so not sure if it's there too.
The top closes perfectly, so I'm assuming it's the driver's side mirror.
I made my first round trip from Vegas to LA over the weekend in our 06 GX470and had to endure this obnoxious wind noise that seems to be coming from both driver and passenger windows. Is this normal for a Lexus SUV? I normally drive my LS460L which is dead silent so I'm not sure if I'm just spoiled. I used to have a big SUV (Armada) but never noticed the wind noise because of the engine and road noise.

View 4 RepliesI have a lot of wind noise in my 2 front windows when driving highway speeds, no water leaks. I cannot find where it is coming from either, I assume it is either air rushing over the mirrors or thin glass. Sometimes it is worse than others, not sure if cross winds etc. Is that common in 2009 Sonata. My old 2003 Malibu, much quieter but mirrors were slightly more rounded if I remember.
View 12 RepliesRecently I have been doing a lot of highway driving with my 2007 Prius. There is noticeably an excessive amount of wind noise at highway speed due to the gap between the front and back door.
After applying a piece of weather stripping from the hardware store, about $5 the wind noise is greatly reduced.
04 GX470 , open the back window while driving also had front windows open and all of a sudden I hear this noise like a helicopter to find that my moon roof was vibrating ? So I closed the back windows and everything was normal?

Also when i close the driver door its saying its not closed. Is there a fuse hiding somewhere under the hood? or what should i do. Its under warranty but its Sunday and rain is coming.

The drivers side window works when it wants to, the front passenger and the back drivers side windows wont go down at all and the passenger back window works only when the front drivers window does. The switches are lit up with the windows that don't work..like there is no power going to them. The power locks do the same..with the same problem windows. It has an after market car alarm, so could that be the problem.
View 6 Replies I have a high pitched squeal coming from the back windows during operation. I am pretty confident it's not the window assembly itself (linkage, track, etc in the door), but rather the weatherstripping type material that physically lays against the glass at the bottom of the window opening on the door. This happens in both up and down directions of the window.
It DOES NOT squeal when the material is wet, and thus is the reason that I've been able to pinpoint the cause. It's likely that the window channels could be contributing to this as well. The problem is...I don't know how to solve this without applying a lubricant that will smear/streak my windows.
I've already taken clean rags and wiped both the inner and outer portions of this material to remove dirt and dust that they gather...no change in the noise. Is there a way to "condition" the material so they will soften up, without leaving a residue that will streak the window?
I just got my wagon (2002 used) and noticed that the chrome detailing around the back windows of my wagon were getting really foggy in the super humid weather. What is the solution? Wait for winter? I assume the high humidity is just causing condensation in the plastic/chrome or whatever and when I press my fingers hard to it it goes away (consistent with moisture). Can this be fixed? She is so adorable without these clouds!
View 2 RepliesMy passenger and back door windows won't open with the use of their switches. I can open all three with the master control. I thought the master switch was bad and replaced it. The problem persists. Are these individual switches for the passenger and back doors in series, where one goes out and none work ?
View 4 RepliesMy 2013 Sonata came with a sunroof wind deflector. I'm somewhat hesitant to install it, since it might increase wind noise. It also might affect MPG. I like the looks of it, at least the pics I've seen of it.

I told him he has the car for 1 working days.. if it's not cured by then I want a Loaner & he can keep the SE until such time as the Wind Noise" is cured...Overall the QC in his workshop leaves a little to be desired, having had a dealership in the UK I kno' what to look for in a workshop. Having told him that I will sit there and wait until my car is 100%, I think he got the message!
All cars have a few foibles, having run Jag's, Porches, Big Fords, Big Hyundai's & driven everything from the latest Maserati's to the cute Ford Ka's like life everything is a compromise. The Passat SE in my view is a 7.9 maybe 8 out of 10..(Pedals & Wind Noise are my gripes)
