I have a 2006 2.0 tdi 170 dpf passat. Some times the revs rise to 900-1000 rpm and the engine sounds more noisy than normal. Then the revs go back to normal at 800 rmp and the engine sounds normal, What can be the cause of this??
View 3 RepliesI have a 1997 Saturn, and have noticed for the past couple of months that when the car is idling at a stoplight, the engine seems to rev or almost skip a little bit. The RPMs go from about 1000 down to 500 for a couple of seconds, and this will happen once every 10 seconds or so. Otherwise, it runs fine...but this is happening more and more frequently than it used to.
I had the transmission rebuilt over the summer and its still under warranty. What might be causing this?
I just locked out the cam phasers on a 2005 f150 with a 5.4. It now idles pretty rough. If I blip the throttle the revs will rise and then drop again, and it barely catches in time to prevent a stall. If I continue to tease it this way I can usually get it to stall. I'm getting no CELs or anything, but I intermittently will get a P035x code (it seemed to rove. I've gotten cylinder 1, 4, 6, but not consistently.). I have chased those around by swapping coils, checking/cleaning the connectors, etc.
I am kind of thinking that these codes are a symptom of my idle issues, and not the actual problem. What could I have done wrong? Could it be a vac issue? I had basically the entire ECU harness and all the vac lines disconnected to do the job, but as far as I can tell everything has been reconnected to the correct locations. I did have an SCT tune done to remove the phasers in the ECU. I installed it and still have the issue, so for now I am on the stock tune just to eliminate any variables.
Could my tune be the issue? Is this how you would expect the engine to behave with locked out phasers and no corresponding ECU tune?
When I'm driving in stop and go traffic during rush hour, my 2007 Camry V6 makes a light flutter when I slowly speed up to between 1000 to 1300 revs. It's not a grind or anything but it's like a light flutter/stutter that you can feel.
It's not a hesitation where the car slows down, but you can definitely feel and hear a light "duh duh duh" then the car continues. It doesn't happen at higher revs at all once the car picks up, say, 10 to 15 kms an hour.
I have a 2007 6.0 that this has happened to twice now. It's fine around town but I never hear the can come on. Friday when on the interstate my my temp gauge started to rise past normal operating temperature before fan came on. Is this normal? After the fan came on it stayed at normal temp for the rest of trip....
View 5 RepliesEarlier this winter and last year, the forum had discussed the occasional fast idle in the 3.6L. Symptoms include the engine idling at 950-1000 RPM and the car feeling like it wants to surge forward. I had the problem twice during heavy snowstorms in February, but nothing really since...until this past week.
The weather here in Chicago has been in the early 90s and I've had the AC cranked. At the same point, I've had the fast idle event occur at least 5-6 times in the past week. Almost every time it has occurred while moving in very heavy traffic. Have others seen something similar in very hot weather?
The air box on my 01 Rodeo almost sounds like there is no filter inside it. I've checked the box and their is a filter. Still when I give it the gas it has a very throaty sound....is this normal or is my air box missing a baffle or something.

View 5 RepliesI have a 3.6L V6 2006 Passat and every time I accelerate, I hear this Tin-Can-like hollow noise from the engine amost like a rattle from the exhaust. Finally I was at the dealer today and I mentioned it. The mechanic came out to the car and could hear it as I revved the engine. We kind of isolated it to the FSI pump... there was also a very audible ticking noise from the engine like in the old days with valves.... He couldn't tell what's causing it?
Unfortunately they didn't have another used or client's V6 Passat VW on the lot to compare the noise to see if it is normal. Mine has 22,000 km on it. He also said a new one may not have it at first while the car is still new and tings tighter, but as one puts some mileage on it he thought the noise may start becoming louder. It makes the car feel like a cheap japanese car, rather than a nice tight engine noise one gets from a german car...
On my gti when in low revs, theres a rattle that sounds like a shield but I've check the one around that cat and the one under the turbo. but it still rattles. What this could be?

View 1 RepliesSo tonight my wife got off work at 7pm, she gives me a call and tells me she is on the side of the road. I was like wtf, what happened....anyways long story short I drive 30 miles out, by that time tow truck just arrived and flat beds the passat wagon to dealership.
So what my wife told me she got off work, drove about 2-3 miles down the road and then lost power and she pretty much came to a stop. Then she called me. Then tow truck came and towed it it dealer.
So issues I noticed, car starts fine, no engine lights on, but when you put in any gear, drive, reverse, sport mode etc. car does not move at all and engine just revs up. I'm think thing torque converter or something but really have no clue. Anyways tow truck tows car to dealer I start back up car and for f same car has power again can go forward, can go backwards! Yeah right, so I said let me see if I can drive around the block, so get in car start driving and then the power starts to fade and only drives about 100 feet before the lack of power happens and start to come to a stop. I did notice some slight grinding noise but by that time I wasn't moving anymore.
So we park in an open spot(had to push the beast) and then went home and here I sit and type my problem. What is going on and why all of a sudden without any notice this would happen. It has been a great car for us and we just had it in the dealer on Tuesday for oil change and they said everything looks good besides your rear pads are getting low... This just really sucks and couldn't of happened at a worse time. Just don't understand why the 2.0t transmission would do this all of a sudden. I pray that we don't need a new one replaced.
I have a 99 passat, manual transmission. This problem has occurred a few times, with a few weeks in between each instance. When it happens, it goes like this:
Start the car, engine revs to around 2k rpm or more. Then it settles down after a few seconds, and idles under 1k rpms. Now, sometimes it will do this and that is the end of it. Other times, I will be driving and the engine continues to rev more than it should. Instead of both the tachometer and speedometer being in sync, the tachometer tends to be higher- more so than normal.
Then, at times-usually in 3rd gear- I can actually take my foot off the gas and the car will continue to drive as if i had my foot on the pedal. When I slow do it is a struggle between the transmission and the engine - the engine does not want to slow down. What to do, especially with the intermittent of the problem.
I have a 07 Passat, manual 2.0T, 90 kmiles.
There was a recall for some faulty circuit in the steering column, which got replaced in September. Ever since the replacement, about once a week (with a daily commute of 40 miles each way, mostly congested highway), the following happens:
First the engine revs up for a couple of seconds when I change gears, to 4-5kRPM. Then within 5 minutes, I get a "Parking Brake Fault" message, together with the yellow P light staying on. If I stop the engine, I cannot restart it for 30 minutes or so, there's a message that says "depress clutch first".
When I finally manage to restart, I won't have a problem for about a week. Is this common?
Just bought a passat 1999 1.8s auto, it sounds like a diesel engine. drives ok.
View 6 Replies'02 V6 30v with 73k.. engine noise sounds like rattle consistent with idle sounds like its coming from rear section of motor. i did search came up with a few probabilities but no resolutions just wondering if possible it could be oil pump because if i add oil then start up the noise disappears for a few mins then comes back, a few guys mentioned it could be camshaft tensioner.
View 4 RepliesJust poking around under the hood of my new car. Removed the oil fill cap while the engine was running and it promptly sputtered and died. I've done that countless times on non-turbo engines to get a better listen to the valve train, and never had an engine die on me, including my B5.5 V6. Put the fill cap back on and it cranked right up and idled normally again. No CEL or other lights. Is that normal?

Having an issue that's bugging me. all cold starts are fine. However, if I drive a short distance then try to restart the engine cranks, sounds like it catches but stalls.
It takes 2-4 retries to get it going, i'm not releasing the key too early as this happens even when I hold the key in.
I've not been able to get a VAG-COM on it yet but would like to know whether this is likely to be something simple or, if it's time to sell the car?
Recently my car has been doing some weird things. After driving it for about an hour, I get a sound from the engine compartment that sounds like a vacuum cleaner. It's fairly loud, but it's mostly just noticeable from the outside. The car continues to run, but if I turn it off, it doesn't restart (does not even crank). Last night I was driving at about 55 MPH and all the electronics went off and then came back on. In other words, the radio restarted and all the lights turned off and back on. The headlights turned off, but they did not come back on no matter what.
