I have added a quart of recommended oil per the manual (the dipstick is now reading optimal oil). The warning is still on. What actions can be taken and what was the outcome? I am assuming that if the warning is not gone in the morning the sensor is bad.
View 10 RepliesWhen I start up the car in the morning, the infamous "STOP!! CHECK COOLANT LEVEL" warning will come on, and then shortly thereafter it will go away. I topped off the coolant level (with the pink stuff of course) and yet this light will come on occasionally. It mostly comes on first thing in the morning when the car is started up and cold, and *sometimes* come on when the car is warm. Fluid level is all topped off. What gives?
I was reading that there is a fluid level sensor that sometimes goes bad? could this be it? I changed the coolant temp sensor back in the summer of this year. (not sure if that has anything to do with it?) Not sure if I have a leak, cause I look under the car in the morning and I have no spots of coolant anywhere.
At the end of last winter, I got the warning flash that my coolant level was low. So I topped up (about a pint or more)About 3 weeks later I had to go through the same scenario !! but then it started to get hot outside and my air conditioner mode took over and lo and behold - no more coolant loss.!!?? Now that winter and cold weather is back - so is my leak!!
So I run off to the local dealer and they get the car up. And drop the belly pan with the engine running and the heat cranked up. the mechanic said he found a dripping hose coming from UNDER the intake manifold.
The engine is a 2002 2.8 v6....
It's a 99 Passat 1.8 T
The last time it was checked: Last year around March-April
When I got the STOP check coolant level message on my 2002 Passat glx. I pulled over as soon as I could and then I began to over heat. The coolant level was good, actually it was a little high. The check engine light also was blinking. I replaced my water pump about 70K miles ago.

Where to look under the hood for loose or broken clamps or hoses that may be the culprit. Which hoses (color?) are the ones to check?
Started the car on Saturday and drove about 2 miles. Chime came on and display read something like "check gas cap" or "tighten gas cap". Went off about 10 seconds later and never came on again. Cap was tight. Might weather have something to do with this? Beastly hot that day (98) and tank was half full. Never saw that display before.

View 7 Replies I was cleaning my passat the other day and I took my air filter out, however I didn't disconnect the wires and hoses on top of the box, I just raised the top cover up and pulled the filter out and cleaned it and checked it and put it back in, I also took out the cabin filter out and cleaned it and put it back in too, then I started the car and took it for a ride and the car started over heating, it keeps giving me STOP CHECK COOLANT warning and the temperature rises all the way to max RED.
I check the coolant level is at level and the radiator fans are spinning, however I noticed the lower hose that goes from reservoir to the radiator is cooler than the other hoses, what could be the problem? The water in the reservoir is hot too, could this be from a faulty thermostat? a sensor? or somewhere I read there is a fuse somewhere in the engine bay? I'm not too familiar with these 1.8t engines, the temp sensor was acting funny before too like sometimes it would go all the way to zero and stay there and go up and go down to zero and then raise, which I think there might be a bad connection or bad sensor.
I forgot to add the car is a 2003 1.8T.
I Just did a little work on my 2013, lowering springs, BBS rims and Kuhmo tires....
I now get a Check Tires warning every-time at start up.... Clearly it has to do w/ the lack of tire pressure monitors...
Can this error be whipped/cleared? OR do I need to get TPM's? OR do I live w/ it?
My '04 with 47K on the clock just announced 'Level Workshop'. The warning does not come on right away and takes several minutes to re appear after the car has been turned off and restarted. The car is level, the ride height adjustment functions perfectly, the damping selection functions as before and the jacking control is working the way it is supposed to.
View 24 RepliesJust did an oil change on the R32 and while the oil level looks fine (if anything a little high at the moment) we can't get the oil level warning icon to stop blinking on. I don't get it. We have level up to where the manual says it should be but the icon will not stop blinking on and off.

Tonight the coolant light illuminated and the mfd states the level is low. Sure enough it's quite low.Is this normal for the R? I know my MK5 GTI burned oil like crazy. Should I be concerned?
View 2 RepliesLast year I was driving and my low oil level warning came on for some odd reason. I say odd because I had just done an oil change a couple months prior. I filled it up to the correct level and everything was fine. A couple months later after doing my oil change the same thing happened again. I get the same warning and now feel there is an issue with my car. I called the dealership and they said they can do an oil consumption test. My car is a 07 GS350 AWD.
View 14 RepliesWhile driving my 04 w12 a few months ago i noticed a "stutter" or brief jerk while driving. the next morning i had a "coolant level" warning. i took the car to a mechanic i use who diagnosed the problem as a broken coolant line involving the transmission cooler, with the result that coolant migrated to the atf. indication was that the tranny was toast, along with the atf cooler. I authorized a repair (not inexpensive), keeping costs down by installing a used tranny. since the car was "fixed" i still got a "jerk" usually in fourth gear, sometimes in third. i took the car back and was told that the tranny was flushed numerous times and the transmission was reflashed. i picked the car up yesterday, but i still get the "jerks", now usually in third gear.

View 3 RepliesI now have about 39k miles on 2011. Along the way I think I have added six 2.5gal jugs of DEF. About 1k miles ago I got the low DEF notice and added a 2.5gal jug and am already back down to 250 miles of DEF! I don't see any signs of a leak with the engine running or not. Dropped it off at the dealership this eve for an AM service appointment.
