I'm new to vw and I have a passat 3.6 sel premium and I have been hearing a noise coming from my rear suspension when I have a full car or going over speed bumps and such. It took it to the dealer and they said that they couldn't replicate the problem, could it be the control arms or it's bushings? The car is only 6 months old smh.
View 8 RepliesSo on the 16th I had my Koni FSD kit installed with a set of Driver Gear springs (30mm drop) and used the ECS Tuning install kit for both front and rear.
The issue I'm trying to troubleshoot is a 'thunk' noise coming from the rear but only when going over speed bumps or any other major bumps/dips.
I'm in the market for an '09 Sonata 4cyl. I found a good looking one at a local Toyota dealership (supposed trade in). Unfortunately, the dealer claims there are no service records available...test drove it and heard noise coming from rear suspension when going over speed bumps. Dealer had tech look into it and said they lubed up the 'springs' and stabilizer/sway bar and now the noise is gone. Should I run away or take this thing in for an independent inspection, and if it checks out, buy it without the service records?

See the attached videos. The first one (night time) was made before I took the car to the dealer the first time. Dealer said that I was going too fast over the speed bumps, so I made another video (daytime) showing the speed (10-13 mph). Both times you can hear a squeaking noise coming from the front that I just started hearing last week. The car has only 23,000 miles on it. I bought it brand new back in September of 2010. I don't know what to do because the dealer (of course) says that they checked everything and there is nothing wrong with the car.
What was the cause of it. I can take it to a mechanic and check it myself and then bring it to VW for repairs and telling them exactly what's wrong and why.

I bought an 02 Explorer Sport 2wd back in December of '12. The vehicle actually runs pretty well. The thing I first noticed was the rear suspension seems to slam when going over bumps of almost any size or at any speed. Like if there's a sub-level manhole or something that just the passenger rear tire goes over it makes this terrible slam and sometimes shimmies (Spell check) to the sides like Inam losing control. I thought I would go ahead and change the shocks, did not make one bit of difference. I have looked up diagrams on the rear sus and everything seems to be there. Here's a picture just to kind of show what I have going on.
View 1 RepliesI have a 2007 Sonata Ltd (63000 miles) and had a clunk in the front suspension. I had the front upper control arms replaced (which were visually badly worn) and that fixed the problem. But now, a several months later another similar clunking noise has developed when I go over those small speed bumps in parking lots.

View 14 RepliesMy car's rear suspension bushes are getting torn and are making squeaking noise in bumps. I am able to get bush for trailing arm and stabiliser bar. My dealer says that i have to replace the whole knuckle assembly as the bush for that part are not available separately. Is this true or the dealer is trying to earn some quick bucks?
View 2 RepliesI am having problems with suspension noice in the early mornings going over small obstacles or bumps on the road. I have complained to VW dealer and they changed something in my rear suspension, but the noice is still here. I think it is coming from the front suspension. 2006 Passat. It is usually in the am when i start the car and than goes away later.
I think this is what they did for me, but it did not fix the noice.

I'm getting ready to do some maintenance such as flushing the brake fluid, new air filter, and changing spark plugs. I've noticed lately a noise from what I'm assuming is my front suspension that can be heard when going over small bumps on roads at low speeds. It sound like a squeaky spring, almost like something needs to be oiled. I'm still on stock suspension with close to 80k on the clock, so I was wondering if there is anything in particular I should look for when I'm messing around the wheels bleeding brakes, or if there is a common procedure to lubricate something so the noise stops. I can hear it from inside the cabin so I imagine you can hear it from outside the car.

I have a rattling noise coming from the front suspension (both sides) when going over small bumps. Most people point to ball joints, but I find my case odd because I just replaced

I did not touch the leaf springs or the sway bar, except to grease the links, which otherwise looked good.
I have a 2004 F150 4x4 5.4. Over the last few weeks I've noticed that when the truck has been parked for even a short time, when I start to move out I am getting a thumping noise from the rear, almost sounds and feels as though I am driving over small speed bumps, but once i get going it seems fine. Where to start?
View 5 RepliesI have a 2013 Elantra GLS and from the day I got it, I've felt like the suspension/shocks are just terrible when it comes to speed bumps. In my apartment complex I have to slow to 5 MPH whereas in a friend's Focus, Accord, and 200C I can ride over them at 20MPH no problem. The speed bumps are pretty small and nothing special. The car seems fine with potholes that sink into the ground but poor with bumps that rise out of the ground. Is it just me? Do the stock Hankook tires have anything to do with it?
View 16 RepliesI would prefer to drive my treg in sport mode on the air suspension because I find that I get slightly better cornering, etc. However, there are about 8 speed bumps in my normal "to gym and to work" morning drive and 5 on the way home. Some are the big wide new-style speed bumps. Some are the little narrow hard bumps. I usually leave the sus in comfort or auto because of this. Is it "bad" for the suspension to take speed bumps at a fairly good clip with the air suspension? Worse when it's tightened up for sport mode??
View 3 RepliesI would describe the noise as a low rattle/knocking when i hit bumps(or the second after). i thought it might be my spare tire knocking around in its trunk well under the carpet. I actually removed it and drove around to check, but it was not the issue. I had a mechanic look at wheels/suspension because of this noise, he told me the rear passenger side sway bar link needed to be replaced. I personally ended up doing the work and replaced the right and left rear sway bar links however the noise persists.
while the rear was jacked up i tried wobbling the wheels with my hands to check for play but found nothing in any direction. The mechanic seemed to think everything else looked ok.
I only notice it at low speeds like driving around a neighborhood. The big bumps it either isnt happening or the noise is drowned out by the general sound of hitting larger bumps. But over mildly bump sections such as a bad asphalt patch chop it can be very noticeable.
Its not very consistent, its hard to predict when ill hear it and its almost like its during when my suspension settles after hitting the bump that its heard.
I too suffer from the "suspension" noise whenever running over a sharp speed bumper. Today I took some pictures under the bumper, wow, what a mess! I don't think all the solutions people posted on the other post could solve the problem, it's rather a design flaw than an problem. This should be a recall.
View 3 RepliesMy wifes Passat wagon just got the 40k service and the dealer replaced the sway bar bushings in hopes of getting rid of some SQUEAKS that the car has made since we got it, it is lowered on h&r springs and bilstien shocks, however the sway bar bushings really didn't fix it, it seems to squeak when turning to the left and its definitely coming from the back.
View 7 RepliesI just upgraded from my old 92 camry with 350k to a 04 camry SE.
When I bought it it had a noise in the right rear suspension of the car. I just assumed this would be something minor so I bought it anyway. Shortly after I had the car I noticed there's a clunk in the steering and it turns out my intermediate steering shaft is shot. Turns out this is a common problem.
Its mostly one one side (passenger). Its more of a thumping sound then a rattle and happens on just about every bump or hole in the road. I've replaced the swaybar bushings, the links are fine. Just to be absolutely sure I disconnected the links and drove the car with no sway bar and it had no effect on the noise.
I've replaced the strut mount, and while I had it out I checked the shock. Shock is fine. No leaks, dead spots or any play in the shaft. I've taken everything out of the car, spare tire, jack everything in the truck to eliminate any of that stuff bouncing around. All the control arm bushings seem tight, but I haven't spent much time checking this, need to give the bushings another look.
Are these something that commonly goes? I've checked all the exhaust hangers, rocked the exhaust back and forth, doesnt seem to be hitting anything.
I can't find the obd port on my new 2007 SF. Also there is a clunking coming from the front suspension when i go over bumps, what is the most common cause of this?
View 13 RepliesI have an 09 ls 460l with stock suspension and 22's. My rear suspension will hit the top of the fender over dips and bumps with rear passengers in the car. I have 285/25/22 on the rear.
