I have a problem with the engine cooling fan (driver side) - is not running. The other fan is working properly. On this arrangement driving on the high way the engine cooling is OK. View 5 RepliesMy 05 V8 Phaeton radiator cooling fan is not running and hence engine overheats. The AC cooling fan works alright, it comes on when i switch on the AC. I have verified that the actual radiator cooling fan works by plugging it to the ac cooling fan socket. I have checked fuses and all ok. there are no dealers near me. I have also gone through all the cooling fan threads and all of them are for constant running fans, none for a non running fan.
View 4 Replies2006 GX470. I have an A/C issue where sometimes the driver's side is not cool at all but the passenger side is very cold. Both sides are set to the coldest setting.
The weird part is, I can usually get it to fix itself by reaching back to cycle the rear A/C on and off.
I did a search on here and found one similar thread, however it seemed his fix was replacing the expansion valve; but wouldn't a bad expansion valve cause an issue to both driver's and passenger side?
This used RX has been a nightmare so far. In the shop again, this time because the driver side AC is not cold but the passenger side is. Shop told me they are doing a system evac and recharge but I don't think that is it. My son's Yukon has a dual air setup and the blend doors are issues on those.
I think something similar is happening with the RX but I am not familiar enough with them to know.
I have a 2004 Jetta GLI VR6 (24v).
I noticed the driver side cooling fan stopped working (actually it sometimes goes on or off, but mostly off). I stopped using the A/C. The car has no overheating issues whatsoever. The 2nd fan (passenger side) kicks in when its appropriate
So I think its fair to assume that the fan gave out. In fact I remember using the A/C one day and a smell of burnt electronics/motor overcame me, so I popped the hood and noticed the driver side fan is a little absent .
Some simple questions:
I've been told by people that the 2 fans sometimes have different functionality, one for A/C one for Cooling blah blah. They are different sizes, the one affected is bigger. What is the reality here? Do they have specific purposes?
Should I replace both of them? Since the job is so labor intensive and the other cooling fan has in some way taken the burden of the non-working one?
Is there anything else that could prevent the driver side cooling fan from working (FCM?)?
I noticed that in some cars (even new ones) the cooling fan stays on for a minute or two, even after the engine has been turned off and the key removed.
This caused me a little bit of curiosity —keep in mind I'm not very car-savvy— so I wanted to ask: Why is that?
Both engine cooling fans on my 1986 Camry are running all the time; even when the engine is cold.
View 12 RepliesI'm at 47000 miles. Out of no where the fan began to run and its been running most of the time when i turn on the engine.
There's no CEL, engine temp gauge is normal at 200. Coolant levels above MIN.
What might be triggering the fans to go on? I'm suspecting it might be coolant thermostat sensor.
2nd time happening to me: I started my car, backed up and drove few hundred feet before stopping at a traffic light.
While stopping there, I noticed the engine cooling fan was running at max and the temperature was going rapidly up (in less than 10sec the gauge almost hit the red line).
While the gauge was going up I shifted the gear stick to P and the gauge dropped to normal in less than 5sec.
I shifted back to D and the car drove normally ever since.
I just bought a 2006 Lexus GS300 AWD. Bought it with 99k from a older gentleman who seemed like he took really care of the car. Gave me all type of Lexus dealership service receipts. I recently noticed that the driver side seat heating and cooling doesn't work right, passenger seat works fine. I haven't checked the fuses yet just wanted to get some opinions before getting into it.
View 2 RepliesOn my 2013 Platinum the passenger's seat seems weak on the cooling versus the drivers. It still works on the passenger's side just not very cool. Is the AC cooling just a fan pushing air through the small holes in the leather seats?
View 13 RepliesI have been getting all sorts of weird messages and warnings for a few weeks now, and have previously posted about them. I have a service appointment next Monday.
Today I decided to check my driver's side battery and found only 11.6 volts. I am charging it as we speak. It will be interesting to see if it holds a charge. If not, then the battery is definitely bad.
The question becomes whether the bad battery is the only bad item, or whether it is the power management controller also.
Yesterday I took the car out to do some Christmas shopping and after driving it for about 20mins I heard this whine coming from the driver side (outside). I turned off the music and air vents and noticed as I slowed down the noise got worse and as I increased my speed the noise some what dissipated.
Also the noised seemed to match the pitch of the engine almost like when the radio gets engine interference from some of the older cars. So towed the car to the dealership and they are telling me that I have a leaking power steering hose which does not make much sense to me due to the noise and lack of steering fluid under the car.
I just bought this one and it came with no owners manual so I can't figure out how to open the box.
View 3 RepliesSo i bought a 2005 Bentley continental gt and I have been told many times by different mechanics and owners that this car is almost like the VW Phaeton. Ever since i got the car, it had this problem so i don't know what caused it and how it can be fixed but basically all of my electronic components such as lights, windows, key fob remote, etc only work when the car's engine is actually turned on and running. As soon as i turn the engine off i hear a click in the trunk area and everything shuts off at the same time. It seems like some kind of safety cut off or something. It happens almost everytime and i have to close the doors manually with the key. Both batteries are brand new.
View 24 RepliesDriving to work this morning my 'please check lights' warning came on and sure enough my drivers side side light bulb seems to have failed.
Trying to look via search and many threads to see how much work is involved to replace this tiny bulb. The car is due a service shortly and i could get the VW dealer to sort this out but is this going to be something daft like 3hours labour/bumper removal or is it an easy DIY?
This is the first thing to 'fail' in 2.5 years of owenership and not one that needs immediate remedy but would like to sort it out. Presumably i can buy the bulb cheaply enough from VW or Halfords as its not HID etc.
Learning how to operate my newly acquired 2004 V8 Phaeton...not too mention convincing me to purchase one. I think I even like its occassional quirkiness, such as TPMS faults - its like it has a personality.
Anyway, I have not found an answer to a problem which started yesterday:
- Rear driver-side door won't operate using outside handle
- Confirmed its unlocked, can open from inside & child locks (not that those should affect it) are off
- No problem opening passenger side rear door
- I think I hear a mechanism in the door moving when I pull the outside handle on the working side, don't hear it on the non-working door
I believe there is a cable which is attached to the door handle which may have come loose. I do have a VW Real Driver Warranty (10 Years)...and although door handles are specifically excluded, I don't think this is likely a "door handle" problem, but rather something inside the door which has broken.
My Phaeton displayed a check engine light this past week.. I plugged-in my buddies VAG-COM and I have a bad O2 sensor in the front driver side.. Gas mileage is suffering, and really really bad.. . I have 68,847 miles on the clock..
I plan on sourcing the part this week, I was wondering if this is something I can do or is this a dealer item to replace?? I am mechanically inclined.. I even have the "special slotted" deep socket to remove the O2 sensor..
Also, should I replace both fronts since I'll (we'll) be doing one side?? I don't want to replace all 4, if I don't have too.
The rear drivers sunshade (the larger of the two, for the main window) goes up around three or four inches and then stops.

View 3 RepliesThere are threads discussing problems with headlight washers not retracting (stuck open) but I haven't seen anything about the washers not extending. The passenger side works fine but the driver side does not extend. The pump, however, does seem to work because washer fluid flows from under the front of the car. Thus, the sprayer is spraying inside the bumper (probably not a good thing).
When I press the service button, the passenger side opens and extends but the driver side washer cover does not budge. What would be the best way to troubleshoot this problem? Is there a way to access the washer without taking off the bumper? Can the washer cover be pulled open (sounds like a bad idea)?
