08 RX350 with ~100K miles. Two weeks ago the Check Engine/TRAC light were on, VSC light blinks, so I tightened the gas cap, and pull the negative and cleared the code. Hoping this is just a gas cap issue.
2 weeks later all those lights are back again, so my mechanic pulled the code and came up with P0128. He told me it should be the problem with the Coolant Temperature Sensor. The water pump, thermostat was replaced last year and coolant level is OK. No issue with coolant temperature and the car drives like normal. My mechanic cleared the code and told me to drive it again until the lights come back and he will pull the code again.

Recently, my check engine light blinks when I start my car. Once I put the car in drive or reverse, it turns off. The light does not come on when I put the car back in park. What this means?

I cleaned the gas cap threads and neck, then I reset the computer by removing the positive terminal for 1 minute. I also checked the oil it's fine. Light still blinks? I have many years of mechanical back ground, without running codes I don't know this one
View 4 RepliesI own a manual accent from the 2000 that I have since last December. Fuel pump and battery are new, I changed them after getting the car.
The issues I have and I think they are due to the same reason, are the following.
1. Sometimes, when I turn the key to on position and before cranking, the engine light blinks and the car wouldn't start. Then I remove the key and try again until the light doesn't blink and then the car would start. This could be the second time, the third time or after several times. When the light blinks and I try to start the car, I can hear the fuel pump and the battery working, so the problem must be somewhere else. Also, this issue happens very randomly, it may doesn't happen during two weeks and then it happens one day and next day is OK again.
2. Few times it happened that even if the engine light wasn't blinking, the car started but like without enough power and then it stalled, I tried again, and it has always started OK the second time.
3. A couple of times, I was on the road and stopped the car in a red light and it stalled when I switched to neutral.
4. The car sometimes struggles with the first gear, when I'm switching from neutral to first gear to start the car (after being stopped in a red light for example). The car would start very slowly, even if I'm pushing the accelerator and don't have my foot on the clutch anymore. But after few seconds, the car runs well and I switch to second gear, third gear, etc. and runs perfect. Above 10-20 km/h the car runs perfect, I only have issues (sometimes, not always) at very low speed in first gear.
I think that's it. So far, my mechanic has checked the code problem and he coded a new key, thinking that it was a communication problem between the key and the engine, but it didn't solve the problem. I don't know where to bring the car, because every time someone checks it, they can't find the problem or a solution and I don't want to spend more money for no reason. But I'm also worried that the car breaks down one day in the middle of the road or when I'm in the field with volunteers (I need the car to do field work, but luckily it's not a remote area.
My car is idling rough and the Service Engine light blinks on/off continuously. I ran the codes and they are P0301, P0401 and P1258. What this could be? I changed the plugs, wires and ignition coils about a year ago. Catalytic converter was replaced around the same time but the O2 sensors hasn't been changed. Could that be the cause?
View 1 RepliesSo I have 69,500 miles on my car. I leave it parked on a small hill for 3 days and when I turn it on after 3 days of sitting it sounds like it is going to stall and the check engine light blinks. I roll it to the bottom of the hill and turn it on and the light doesn't blink but just stays on. On top of this, randomly but always after stopping when driving i smell a really strong burning oil smell. The smell is so bad i have to open the windows.
I don't think it has anything to do with the CEL but it has been happening for some time. It only smells after you have been driving (mostly Highway) and then stop. It wont happened if your in traffic or driving around town, you have to be on the highway then get off and stop and you smell it. It can happen once a month or twice a week, it is completely random.
My 04 V8 Touareg has come up with the EPC light in the dash and when it happens, the engine looses power?? What this is related to? Also the engine icon is constantly on ...

It was parked outside in the -14C Celsius and towed away to the next street .I now notice, for the first time, that the engine warning light is on constantly as I drove it today.Yesterday, it was the TCS/DSC light that was on constantly but that was not the case today!According to car's manual it could be either the engine's electrical system or exhaust gas cleaning system. It also recommended that I should drive it slowly and take it to a Mazda dealer immediately. Needless to say that while driving it today at top speed engine sounded perfectly Ok!Waht could be the actual problem ,if any, and what should I do?
View 2 RepliesThe check engine light will pop on an off rapid fire and the car will shake violently when you put it into drive or reverse for a minute, then the light goes off and its fine. then you'll be driving fine, and the light blinks on and off rapid fire again, and even if you have your foot to the floor, you cant get much power, then it kicks in and lurches into being fine again. I tried "tune up in a bottle" and it seems worse. I'm scared its transmission or something.. I took it and had it put on the diagnostic machine at autozone and they said there were no codes, which I find hard to believe since my check engine light is blinking on and off so much now. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to when it happens and when its fine. it will be fine for hours of driving, then in a small period of time, it will go through a whole bunch of spells of this happening.also: when this happens, the light that shows what gear you are in on the dash board goes black, then goes back on again when the check engine light goes off. What is going on with my car????!!!!!!
View 10 RepliesI've got a '96 Sierra manual transmission with 215K that's been running fine. I just ran it 400 miles without a problem. Recently I downshifted into fourth to go up a hill and I had a sudden loss of power and a rough ride like I had a flat tire. The harder I press the gas the rougher the ride and it idles almost normally. The check engine light came on and blinks 12 times.
View 1 RepliesI bought a certified pre-owned VW Jetta 2012 in August of 2013 that had 4,500k miles on it.. I currently have 60,000 miles on it. (I drive a ton)... but ever since I bought it my engine makes this jolting feeling when I slow down. it comes and goes and gets worse when I am due for an oil change. I have taken it to the dealer several times about this issue and they say that german engineering...I think differently. My engine light constantly comes on and my problem is still not fixed. What the issue is??? I am clueless about cars.
View 12 RepliesMy car is a standard and was working fine not indication of any troubles. Stopped and pumped $20 gas. Started to drive and car starts running rough especially at low speeds. Going up hill is brutal. Engine light flash when trying to accelerate, slow getting up to speed, shudders- not a lot of power, once up to speed engine light turn off.
Press the gas to go up hill- engine light comes back on and it begins all over, it also sounds like it is not running on all cylinders.
Is there any suggestions: fuel pump, fuel injection...spark plugs and wires? Something more serious
This morning during cold start up I noticed my check engine light was on constantly, I was able to get a OBDII scanner from a friend and perform a scan after work and brings up P0116, google search says HYUNDAI - Engine Coolant Temperature Circuit Range/Performance.
I did notice the radiator fan seemed to be running all the time. I had a look at the coolant level and it's near the full level line (green color if that matters). My questions is it safe to still drive it to the dealer (30 km away)? Would this be part of the powertrain warranty?
Since my wife is out of town i took her car as I did not want to cause any damage.

View 1 RepliesAbout 2 weeks ago I was driving along and my entertainment/control center began to reboot itself about every 2 minutes or so. When it reset itself it would often times be unable to be used meaning that say if I had the climate control up I could not adjust anything with the knob or button and could not control any of the stereo controls along the bottom either. Is this an issue of needing my battery replaced or is this a faulty and malfunctioning infotainment center?

About an hour ago, my check engine light came on & air from the driver side right vent started blowing even though the fan is off. What the issue might be? Also, my fuel door constantly pops open by itself. While driving, when I close my doors, and when I close my trunk it always pops open. Is there any way to fix this type of issue?

View 1 RepliesI just got this Santa Fe 3.5L not too long ago and have been doing quite a bit of maintenance on it. I put new plugs, wires, and coils on it. I also put a timing belt kit including a water pump and the tensioners on it. The main catalytic converter was totally plugged so I have fixed that problem also. I also did an air filter, oil filter and oil change. Only has 151k miles on it so I expect it should keep going for quite awhile. It runs awesome now with one exception.
The problem and I think I may know the answer, is after driving it a few miles the oil light blinks and then comes on. I stop and turn the car off for a few seconds and start it back up again and drive it another couple of hundred yards or even a mile before the oil light comes on again. When I changed the oil, the cap had gunk on it. Kind of greenish milky sludge and I am thinking it may be a head gasket.
