I have an '05 package 2 and I am replacing the steering wheel. I found that I need to disconnect the battery to replace the airbag, I also read that it is a good idea to remove the SRS relay. Which one is the relay under the hood? additionally I am trying to remove the seatbelts to clean them how do you remove the paneling without breaking the plastic?

View 4 RepliesToday I was on a highway traveling at 60 miles an hour. There were no cars in front or on either side and nothing on the road. My foot was on the accelerator and not on the brake. Suddenly the seat belts pulled very tight (I believe that is called "pre-tensioning") and the brakes slammed on without any input from me. The car rapidly decelerated to about 30 miles an hour. Fortunately there was nobody tailgating me. After that everything seemed OK. My vehicle is a 2013 Prius v (lowercase v for the Prius v wagon) model 5 which has the technology package.
I took the car to the dealer and they checked the collision avoidance system and said they could not find a problem. The service manager said he has a Camry and it has happened to him once. They had never heard of it happening on a Prius. Apparently Toyota has a bulletin about this for the Camry, but not the Prius. They suggested I turn off the Collision Avoidance System with a switch that is under the dash.
I am not sure whether to turn it off because if I do I lose the adaptive cruise control and collision avoidance, If I leave it on this can happen again possibly causing an accident.
I just bought a prius 2007.
I have a unique situation:
•No passenger: light is "Airbag" - No red flashing seat belt sign
•Passenger with seat belt: light is "Airbag" - No red flashing seat belt sign
•Passenger with no seat belt: light is "Airbag" - No red flashing seat belt sign
I have no other warning lights on the dash.
I tried to check to check if there are any loose wires/connectors under the passenger seat but everthing looks ok.
Is there a blown fuse?
Took the car to the dealer, said "just turn off the beeps, all of them." The rep. said come back in an hour. Most of the beeps are off now, but I have an odd pair of problems.
1.) The rear hatch no longer beeps when open, but it also has no longer has the SKS function.
2.) The front seat belts no longer beep, but the front dome light no longer has an on-when-door-is-open function.
3) I'm waiting to see what bizarre side effects come from the single reverse beep.
The rep. says these are side effects from killing the beeps, that the nuisance beeps are tied to these two functions and that the only way to restore them is to bring back the beeps. He claims that the front beeps & dome light are triggered by a sensor inside the door that is part of the door latch, that when this sensor is disabled all its functions stop. I think he said it's the same problem with the rear hatch and its SKS.
The timing belt broke on my aveo, destroying the engine. I replaced the engine with a used one. Now I get the car back on the road and the automatic transmission won't shift from 3rd gear into 4th. Is it possible this problem was caused when the new engine was installed, or the transmission was damaged when the timing belt broke?
View 4 RepliesI brought my 2004 VW Touareg V6(83k miles) to the dealer for a recall on the ignition call and much to my surprise, was presented with a diagnosis of a $6,000 problem! The dealer told me that the computer read some codes which say that the timing chain is stretched and needs to be replaced. They said it will take 4-5 days and should be done asap so it doesn't "go out", because if it does, it's an even more expensive problem. I took the car to another VW repair shop and they asked me if I heard any noised when I start it cold (like pebbles in a bucket). I have not had any problems like that at all, so they said I shouldn't worry until I start getting symptoms. They also said there is no recommended point (like 90,000 miles) when VW recommends the change, so it really shouldn't be a common problem. I want to do the right thing, but I don't want to rush into an expensive repair if it isn't necessary.

View 2 RepliesA few weeks ago, a relative was riding in the front passenger seat and asked me why the light said "passenger airbag off." I had seen that on before and didn't think anything more about it as I rarely have a passenger. Called Toyota to login the problem as I was traveling that week and thought I would be out of warranty before I could get it to the dealer. That particular light was on for some days afterwards and then I forgot about it. Tonight I noticed that "passenger airbag off" is not lit, but there is a light saying "airbag off."
I turned the car on and sat in the passenger seat, and the light that came on for my aunt didn't come on. Just "airbag off."
My uncle has an 05 F150 extended cab. When he bought it he put his license plate in the rear window until he could get some bolts for it. When it was there it fell between the back of the rear seat and the back of the cab. Currently he has one plate on the rear, but is worried he will get stopped for not having a front plate installed. So he knew I am an FTE member and I could find out how to remove the seat back. I have not tried to remove it nor seen if I could reach it.
View 4 RepliesLast night, my 2008 Prius was hit from the rear. The bumper was damaged as well as a few starches on the hatch. However the latch for the hatch was move forward so the hatch no longer latches. Also during the collision, my daughter's heavy backpack was throw against the back of the passenger seat with enough force to hurt her back.
The airbag warning light remains on along with the dash indicator saying the airbag is off. Does mean all the airbags are disabled? Can this be reset? The car will be professionally repaired but I still need to drive it until I can get it repaired.
The rear seat belts in my wife's 2001 Civic EX are annoying, but I don't know if this is abnormal, and can be fixed, or just something we have to live with. Basically, the seat belts frequently grab you and won't let go, so you can't lean forward, for instance. You have to unlatch them and start over.
When I test the belts without latching them, I pull them out a long way and let them retract over and over, and then at some point they grab and I can't pull them out again without letting them retract all the way back to the beginning. I can hear that the ratchet is engaged when this is happening.
During the time when they do pull out and retract with no problem, if I give a sharp tug, they grab, like they're designed to do, and then let go.
Just received a set of new horn kit from piaa.. Now wonder how can I remove the radiator cover properly for the horn replacement.. Or do I have to remove the bumper?
View 2 RepliesThe passenger airbag light only works 50% of the time there is a passenger in front seat. I've moved the seat forward and backward .. But ultimately the passenger must unbuckle, step out if the car , and sit back down in order for it to work. I took it to the dealer with its silver warranty package and the dealer can't find a code so won't fix it. "If it keeps doing it, come back." I'm not going to drive 20 miles out of the way, on one if the 50% chance days that it doesn't work.

View 6 RepliesI have an 04 and the airbag light comes on when started and stays on. I noticed when I start it without sitting in the drivers seat the light goes out. It will illuminate again when I sit or apply pressure to the seat. I looked up the component list on Sewell's website and there is a airbag seat sensor under the drivers seat. My question is it seems to be the issue however it also seems to be working to pick up the presence of a driver. I have an aftermarket warranty that a Rep says it doesn't cover???. I'm assuming if the light goes out without weight on the seat should I replace the sensor? Or is there a "bladder" under the seat cover that may need replacement?
View 7 RepliesFor a long time my 2004 regular cab truck has a quirk that both the driver (and passenger if present) must click their seat belts before starting the truck. If not, the seat belt chime and light flash, even though the seat belt light is off when the alarm is not sounding.
Even if the truck is in park, and the passenger gets out of the truck and back again with the engine running, once in drive it will start the seat belt alarm with everybody properly buckled.
A few months ago I was driving to work and the airbag light started to flash.
I took the truck in for the air bag wiring harness recall, and the airbag light did not flash since then, and for a little while the seatbelt problem went away.
1 month later the seat belt quirk was back again.
This past weekend the 5x5 air bag alert started. I checked previous posts, and confirmed that my air bag light does not ever light on my dash. I don't remember if it ever came on once the recall was "fixed".
My gut feel is that the wiring to the light is fine, and that this is a wiring problem in the harness. I saw a post that made a vague reference to the air bag sensor under the center console and the seat belt circuit and could find no more.
Looking for a wiring diagram? If the airbag light is out, does the 5x5 alert supposed to indicate that the bulb is burned out, or that the bulb is out AND there is an airbag fault?
I guess this feature is standard in newer cars, but how to turn off that annoying beeper for seat belts and keys in the ignition? Perhaps there's a wire that can be cut.
After all, I know enough to buckle my seat belt and feel uncomfortable and unsafe if I do not. I don't need to be beeped at to remind me. Plus, I know when I leave the keys in the ignition and exit the car.
They work and no problems latching up. But they "lock" up real quick. Kids almost always get locked to the seat.
