Prius (2004-09) :: Auto Mode - Headlights Do Not Turn On In Pitch Black Night

I recently purchased an 05 prius pack 4, it has an Auto mode on the headlight switch that does not work. as in the headlights do not turn on in pitch black night... From the searches I have done it appears that the car should not have auto headlights and yet it has the switch... I dont think its canadian because it does not have DRLs... if some models DO have auto headlights then what would cause them to not work.

Right now it doesn't chance background shade when at night time, it always stays white.
How to change so that it automatically changes to black when in night time ?

Just wondering if it's possible to have the driving lights/fogs to turn on with the headlights when the switch is in AUTO? We prefer to just leave the switch in AUTO mode, but it defeats the purpose of even having the front driving lights as they are never used.

I'm a proud owner of a 2005 prius which until recently ran flawlessly. For the past 2 mos, one of both of the headlights randomly turn off at nighttime. If I turn the knob off, then back on, they both work.

Just got a 2014 Prius Three. All my precious cars (non-Prius) had an automatic on headlight system, noticed the Prius doesn't. Can I just replace the turn signal lever with one that has the 'auto' feature? Could it possibly be that simple?

I have a Highlander 2013, for some reason I always use the Headlight switch on the Auto and today my lights were never turned on. I have to start using the switch to turn on the lights manually. I did not check during the day, but I also think that my daylight running lights are not working either? Does that have a fuse or something? What can I check?

In my C3's navigation system there's the option to set the map display to day or night mode. I have it set to automatic but it doesn't seem to ever switch to night mode on its own. How is night mode triggered?

We've use the Auto position for he headlights most of the time since our 2008 was new. Not every time, but too often, the speedometer cluster lighting doesn't switch to dimmed setting when the headlights come on. It seems to happen most frequently when we are in a parade at night. The backlight for the radio dims properly with the Rheostat, but not the Speedometer Cluster. To get it to work properly, you simply need to turn he headlights off and back on again. (or today, open the door)
Sometimes the dim after a 5 second delay (after covering the sensor), and other times, they don't dim after a 20 minute drive in the pitch black.

2010 Prius IV. Map display not adjusting to night mode when her headlights are on. I tried looking at my 2014 Prius Three, not III because it isn't a 2010 and only 2010 used uppercase Roman numerals for model designation, to guide her through it over the phone but her menu options seem to be very different from mine as she didn't have an options button on her map.

How do you get the Navi Screen in a 2012 to go into night mode at night? Where is the setting to adjust this so it automatically goes night or day at the right time? Also is there a way to adjust the brightness of the main mph screen (multi information display)?

My AC always defaults to Recirculation mode the first time I use it after starting the car even though Auto mode is off.

I have it set to switch automatically, but at night it doesn't darken. I have to go into the map settings and back, then it updates or something and turns on the night mode. Does that use the light sensor, or the time of day?

I recently acquired a 2006 V-8 and am enjoying it greatly. It will be quite a while before I learn all the things this terrific automobile can do. One apparent disappointment, however, is that it seems that the headlights (except for daylight) do not turn off automatically after the ignition is turned off. In other words if I absent-minded fail to notice the reminder "dinging" I could be out of luck. Is this correct? It seems odd to me given that by 2006 many sub-premium cars had auto-turnoff.

I finally got my hands on tech stream cable and software and turned off DRL today. I also adjusted light sensitivity setting from normal to light 2. What i was trying to accomplish is to have faster respond of headlights coming on Auto and turning off quickly once it become light again if for example I am going through a tunnel.
I was in the mall today and headlights came on when i enter the garage. When i was leaving it was still light outside and yet even after 1 minute being outside of the cover garage the headlight would not turn off. I finally put it on DRL off and then back on auto and headlight stayed off.
Did i change the wrong setting? Is the result of me putting on light 2 means that while it will come on quicker in dark situation it will take longer to turn off?

2004 Prius. Sometimes, quite randomly, the headlights will turn off. Sometimes its both, sometimes its the left only, and sometimes its the right only. This affects both main and high beams. The dash lights and tail lights may still be on (panicking doesn't give me time to confirm that), but for sure the Nav panel is still lit.
The first time this happened was when I was driving on a mountain road at night in the rain. It now happens almost every night and I have confirmed that it also happens in daytime. Road conditions (bumpy/smooth, wet/dry, dark/well lit) do not seem to be a factor.
At least once while still in my garage, when I started the car the left light was out. I can get the lights to turn back on by turning them off all the way and then back on. Nothing else works. I have replaced the relay for the lights - that didn't change anything.

It hasn't been cool enough to use the heat yet, but I've noticed that whenever I hit "AUTO" on the climate control of my V3, the A/C automatically starts. I noticed in the manual that I can have the dealer make it so that the A/C doesn't automatically come on with AUTO, and that, to me, makes sense for winter.
