When I did the PCV valve on my wife's car it looked like nothing more than a metal housing with a ball bearing rattling around inside. That left me wondering, why not just clean and reinstall the original valve? Is there a reason why that wouldn't be nearly as good? I realize it's a $10 part but I have to ask the question before I go buy another for my own car.
View 2 RepliesMy '04 F250 6.0L has 220k on it. I've had the EGR serviced several times and, unfortunately, the intake manifold boiled out in one of those services.
The engine light is on now and I've got "EGR Performance Problems" just below 2000RPM most of the time but not all of the time (runs better when warmed up)
I've been unemployed for quite sometime so I'm going to have to make this fix myself.
First question, of course, is should I plan to clean or replace the valve?
The second is how to clean the manifold chambers (? right word? The carbon accessible when the EGR is removed. I've seen people on YouTube scraping them with what looks like brake tools. Is there an appropriate tool or chemical?
The third question is is it going to be very difficult removing an EGR valve that may have carbon buildup on it? Too difficult for an aging seldom mechanic to think about tackling?
I guess those are good starter questions. I didn't know until today that EGR cooler may also be part of the problem. Unlike many of the people who post here, I have not kept good repair records. I don't know when I last had my EGR valve replaced at the Ford dealership but it was probably 50,000 miles ago.
I have an '09 with 138k miles on it, I was wondering where the PCV Valve is on the 10th gen, and how to remove it to either replace or clean it?
View 11 RepliesI have a 2009 Camry which has the well known very bad vibration at idle when in drive at a light. My Ultragauge shows the RPM are very low when it vibrates. Sometimes it drops to around 425-450 rpm when at a stop light in drive (automatic car). Then it sometimes moves up to around 625-675 rpm and that is when the vibration completely disappears and it is nice and smooth. This issue is intermittent but happens everyday.
Most people think it is due to a bad engine mount and spend money doing that and get no results.
I have done a lot of research and feel it is due to a dirty throttle body and IAC valve and want to test my theory. I will post results once I do the job. What is the easiest and most thorough way to clean both?
VW Jetta SE 2.5L... Took my car to the dealer for a check engine light, the code came back P0106 which states I need my throttle valve cleaned and the dealer also said I need my brake vacuum pump replaced.. Do these go hand in hand? How should I proceed with the dealer? I have only 60,000 miles on my vehicle was there a recall on this issue? The dealer already updated the software in the technical bulletin.
View 2 Repliesdoing injectors and pulled the valve cover, and noticed its not as clean as i expected. in the oil on top of injectors i noticed its got some grit in it. this cant be good and not sure how this debris got in there as i always change oil and air filter regularly( unless previous owner neglected). is there a safe way to clean this? Is this a normal find for you guys that have done injectors?

View 14 RepliesI got some manual of the internet on how to take out the bottom off the back seat. I got it off and installed the seat covers. How do I reinstall the seat. Instructions say attach rear hooks then push down to attach front. I attached the rear hooks but can not just push down on the seat to install the front. Sitting on it does not let it latch on. How to make the front latch on? This is on 2010 Prius. I got the u tubes going inside the white connectors but they will not latch on. Is there a trick? Seat is faom and Styrofoam so I don't want to just push down as I might break something. It's GT covers that I am installing.

By looking from underneath the car, it appears the assembly is bolted on, but the nut is in an impossible to reach place, even using socket extensions and a universal joint. Other than removing the rear bumper cover, how to remove the entire rear marker light assembly?

View 2 RepliesI had the PCV valve replaced around 60K, then at the next service they wanted to do it again (not reading the records that they had already done it). Then at 80K they wanted to do it again, I declined. Today it was in for 85K service and they said "the PCV valve is dirty and needs to be replaced." The advisor told me after the initial replacement at 60K the interval is 20-25K miles.
View 10 RepliesI have a 2004 toyota Prius with 185k miles on it and recently got the CEL for P1121. I checked both coolants and turns out that the engine coolant was completely out. I immediately filled it up and the CEL went off for a couple days. It has come back and is on constantly, I checked the coolant and the coolant is at the correct level.

View 19 RepliesI had my a/c recharged in April and it was blowing hot again by July. I brought it back in today and they told me that it is leaking out of the Schrader valve on the low pressure side. They told me that they would have to replace the entire line which would cost a few hundred just in parts. Why can't they just replace the valve. The tried calling auto stores for a special part, but could not find one. How to seal or repair just the leaking Schrader valve and not the entire line?
View 8 Replies2004 Prius, 98K miles ... I recently replaced the coolant control valve (received code P1121) and added coolant. Trouble codes were cleared. I am now getting the red triangle intermittently. When I drive the car, after a few minutes, the red triangle comes on. I can shut off the car, and turn it back on, and the red triangle comes back after a few minutes. The car seems to drive normally.
View 3 RepliesI have read all the posts pertaining to this code, replaced my coolant flow valve, bled all the air out of the coolant system and still am getting the cel with the 1121 code.
I have tried setting multiple coolant flow valve positions, checked all wiring in harness, coolant level is full in rad and reservoir, checked temp sensor at bottom of storage tank, checked pump operation at top of tank to attempt to clear this code to no avail.
Is there a default position the valve is to be in before cold start up?
Is there anything else that can trigger this code? What am I missing?
Yesterday the check engine light came on in my 2006 Prius. I took it to the dealer, and they said that the camshaft gear and valve cover need to be replaced. Specifically, the diagnostic report says "P0011. Camshaft position A timing over. Advanced or system performance bank 1. Pin point check LED to CUV gear not switching."
View 9 RepliesWe've gotten quite a bit of rain in the LA area over the last couple of days and I noticed today that sometimes when I start/turn-off the car I hear what sounds like a liquid sloshing around behind the dashboard. Reading on the boards it sounds like a clogged A/C drain, but as it happens I just had the Coolant Valve replaced yesterday (after CEL came on with a P1121 diagnostic code) and so I wanted to check in -- could this be at all related to the new valve OR is it likely just a coincidence?
View 10 Repliesi have a 2005 Toyota Prius that the air conditioner wont work in. it has Freon in it the compressor wont kick so I did some research and my cooling fans aren't kicking on so I did a by pass test and the cooling fans motor is good they just wont kick on. I just replaced my 2 cooling fan relays and they still wont kick on. the check engine light was on in the car when I got it. it throws the code P1121 coolant valve control. I got the part just got to get it put on. Could this part stop my cooling fans from kicking on or my ac compressor from coming on.
View 3 RepliesI was having problems with my 2010 Prius, when I would try to put gas in it the pump would cut off after a small amount of gas. It would take quite a while to fill up the car. I took it to a Toyota Dealer and the problem was a plugged up charcoal canister, which they cleaned out. I live on a gravel road.
My question is, how to clean out the canisters? Can you just use an air hose? I'm sure running around with a plugged up canister can not be good for the car.
I'm looking at 2010 Prius III. It doesn't have the Nav package.
What options are there that could add a good, clean backup cam and Nav system? Also, are there any aftermarket solutions for a "whiter" headlight?
In non-projector cars, I know you can get whiter bulbs (higher kelvin), but not sure about in the projectors.
