I had a question about the light in the gear box/shifter on the dash. Mine seems to work occasionally. Sometimes when I shift into a D or B it'll pop on. Lately it's stopped, I was thinking maybe I have a short in it or it needs to be replaced.
Upon searching through the forums it appears I'd have to replace the whole shift mechanism, is this correct?
2006 Prius with 58,000 miles. Drive in San Diego and Palm Springs. Earlier this year, the A/C would just cut off, maybe about once a week. The control panel indicated the A/C should be on, but absolutely no function. Drive around for 20 minutes, and all of a sudden, it would come on and work perfectly. It is starting to happen on a daily basis now...sometimes it won't work from start, other times it just cuts out while driving. I can park the car and shut the car off with the A/C working, then come back 30 minutes, and no A/C. It doesn't seem to matter which setting is selected. The control panel accepts all commands, but no function changes when the A/C has shut itself off. Loose connection somewhere? It works about 90% of the time, and blows very cold. When it shuts itself off, no air passes through the vents at all.
View 6 RepliesMy 2006 F150 was purchased by me in early 2009 with about 28,000 miles on it. It's an XLT crew cab 4X4 with the 5.4. Stock except for a leveling kit and an aftermarket head unit. It currently has about 59,000 miles and has been babied since I purchased it. About 3 years ago I started noting some issues:
A. Oil pressure dummy gauge is all over the place. Some times it will show no oil pressure. Other times it is all the way to the highest mark. Other times the needle has gone 180 degrees past where normal is and is actualy pointing straight down towards the floor.
B. Recently my alternator dummy gauge has started doing the same thing as my oil pressure gauge.
C. The backlight behind my odometer works intermittently, but mostly not at all.
D. My dome light will flicker when first turned on. It doesn't matter which door is opened or if the override switch it turned on. It takes several seconds to come on and will flicker like there is a poor connection somewhere, but stays on once its on.
E. Blower fan will occasionally stop blowing. Once the climate control switch is turned to off, then back to on it resumes working. This doesn't happen often, but does occasionally.
Fortunately, the truck has not left me stranded and I want to keep it that way. We are getting ready to sale my wife's Toyota and this will become her daily driver. I want to take care of any issues before she starts driving it. Are these all separate issues or is there one common issue which could be causing them all?
I have been wondering what happens when I put the trans shifter in B. I know the Prius really doesn't have a "transmission" and I am wondering how it works and does it affect mileage or regeneration.
View 10 RepliesIt's been about 2 year almost. The shifter is difficult shifting from default position to Drive position. It's like there is some (plastic) obstacles on the way, right at the turning point. I have to force it to the drive position, and I hear the pretty loud clicking sound
Sometimes it also stuck in drive position (if I don't force it back), but will come back to default position in 10 seconds by itself. It is unlikely some external objects got into there I believe.
I have an 01 f350, my reverse lights only work when I hold up my shifter, like its almost into park. I think my reverse light switch is bad, but I don't know where its located.
View 6 RepliesThe trunk light works intermittently. It will run fine for about 45 seconds, then shut off for 10-15s, and cycles... Sometimes it stays on forever, sometimes it cycles on and off all at once about every minute or two. Or sometimes it only shuts off once, runs fine. Then only when i close and open the door again can i get it to then shut off again in ~45 seconds.
Finally got out the voltmeter and figured out where it's coming from. It's the diode that's attached to the trunk light.
Why is a diode there? Why a diode would behave that way? or is it possibly a solder joint? I still have my standard incandescent bulb in there.
First it wouldn't turn on, at times now it at times won't work even though the light is on, on the dash. At other times it works as expected. I dun think it's the 12V battery, because when only the center console is on in diagnostics the battery reads 12.2-12.4 and 14.5 + when the engine is on.

Another day it blows cold on both. Then you guessed it a few days later it goes back to blowing hot on one side and cold on the other.
View 2 RepliesI have a 2006 F-150 S/Crew and I seem to have the same intermittant odometer problem as many of the folks in that 1999-2003 group. The odometer comes and goes, flashes intermittantly and sometimes doesn't work for days.
Can it be repaired in the same fashion as those older units? The dealer is more than willing to sell me a new cluster (obviously). They say that there is "no way to possibly repair those odometer problems and we see them all the time."
I've been noticing some issues with the touchscreen on my 2007 Gen2. Sometimes when I touch the screen, the unit doesn't respond. Other times, I need to touch slightly above the area I am supposed to touch in order to get the correct response. It doesn't happen all the time, but more than just occasionally. I asked my local dealership about it and they say the screen probably needs to be replaced. I've also heard that perhaps recalibrating the screen could work.
View 4 RepliesThe AC on our '04 RX330 has started acting up. Refrigerant level is fine. When the system works it's ice cold. It'll run more often than not, but occasionally the AC compressor just won't kick on. I searched the forum and found issues in other toyotas and lexus models with the magnetic clutch relay but for the life of me I can't find where that is on the RX. I also saw reference to an AC "servo" in another thread. What controls the AC compressor and what to check?
View 14 RepliesI'm having problems with the auto dimmer mirror in my camry 2004, it work some times but most of the time didn't work and is really difficult to use it during the night because the lights from cars behind shine directly in my eyes. The compass in the mirror works all the time but the dimmer not, I notice that the green light in the bottom of the mirror is off most of the time.
View 1 Replieson my 04 supercab f150. one moment door locks work, the next nothing. started this weekend. its a bone stock truck with 128000 miles. sometimes work sometimes don't. have wiggled harness and connections outside the door. worked fine, pulled it out of the shop and parked it now not working again.

keyless locking/unlocking rarely works. Tried using the 2nd key for a day or so but no difference. No light in the remote or indicator in the dash telling me battery is dead...
The rear courtesy lights above the rear seats only work occasionally. All button settings seem to be set correctly to come on when th doors open but they don't . Most of the time you cant even turn them on manually but sometimes they work..
we just bought a 2002 Excursion and it has a few issues. First off the door, the ajar light will not go out, however, the dome lights are not on constant, they come on briefly while the key is removed and do work with the roller switch. Also the radio doesn't shut off with the key removed until the timer relay kills all power. I have ohmed the door switches to ground all the way back to the VSM/GEM module. The door lock/unlock switches do nothing for any of the doors, the actuators don't even try to move. The auto headlights also do not function.
View 14 RepliesI have a 2003 Prius that I have had about 4 years. It has under 80,000 miles on it and I have the Ecrostech Scanner which I have had for about 3 years. For the time I have had the Ecrostech I have noticed times when the regenerative braking was not working when I would depress the brake pedal. I understand the regen does not work from about 7 mph and below but my system often does not work even when it is above that speed. I have not been able to force it into regen. It seems to have a mind of its own as in perhaps a faulty ecu.
View 7 RepliesI just purchased the car a few weeks ago. Horn doesn't work till I press about a dozen times and "get lucky".. Once it hits once I can usually beep about 4 times before losing it. I checked the fuse, looks fine. Haven't found the relay yet.
I suspect it is something in the switching/contacts/ground in the steering column. What I may need to replace in steering column?
I bought an '02 LE, 4 cyl w/123k miles and found electric issues. Are they somehow related and indicate a bigger issue? No lights by shifter (PRINDL). Auto shut-off for overhead light works intermittently. Driver door lock button works intermittently – at times when you pull to lock door it’s ok. At times it slides back and forth doing nothing, and can’t be locked manually w/ key or w/ remote. Driver and passenger windows kind of jump at start of open and end of close.

View 2 RepliesI got a 1999 f150 if you put shifter in gear the overdrive light comes on. When you put it back in park the light goes out.
