The dealer tells me my oil is leaking and I need a new oil pan. After leaving the car in the garage overnight, I backed it out this morning and there is absolutely nothing under the car except a couple of water puddles (we've been having rain). Can my oil leak and not get on the ground?
View 7 RepliesI have an 04 F150 5.4. Anyway drove truck about 200 miles this weekend. When I got back home, unloaded truck, noticed a fluid leak on the ground in the rear of truck. Upon further inspection, appears to be leaking from where the driveshaft meets the rear axle...looks like there's a gasket or yoke in the rear of the U joint? a little fluid dripped down and ran down to the lower portion of the "pumpkin" and made a quarter size oil patch in front of my house.
I would have definitely noticed such a stain before, since I park in the same spot at home and work every day. I drove to work today (14 miles) and looked under the truck for 15 minutes after I parked, don't see any drip, but do see remnants of a leak all over the front part of the rear axle. No way has any fluid leaked on the ground before, I 100% would have noticed a stain.
Thoughts on a fix for this? I had the clutch packs redone about 3 years ago under warranty, truck has 88k miles. No shudder when I drive from the rear axle, I'm assuming there is fluid in the rear gears, as a substantial leak I for sure would have seen on the ground. leak is 100% NOT coming from the seal on the rear axle, but in front of it where the shaft meets the axle. Possible that driving on the highway at 75MPH for 2 hours straight caused this leak, as my drive to work is mostly stop and go, both ways.
Well one of the bulbs in my regular halogen housings went out, so I went and bought a pair and replaced the bulbs. Everything was great until I took a testdrive and noticed I was signalling MIR (or I guess the ISS this millenium) illuminating road signs very well, and the ground not so well...

There is a black plastic piece hanging and touch the ground, the noise was from this black plastic piece touching the ground. Attached is the picture.Is this a big problem? Can I continue to drive the car to repair shop to get this fixed?
View 6 RepliesA few weeks ago my car over heated and stopped. I had it towed and the mechanic changed the water pump, timing belt, gasket cover and more. About two weeks ago I noticed antifreeze on my drive way. Took it back in and the mechanic changed a clamp on the radiator. it continued to leak antifreeze. I took it to Pep Boys for a pressurized test, they couldn't find a leak, but did say my radiator hoses needed changing and they suspect the radiator cap is the problem. That was a week ago. I just got back from vacation and the reservoir keeps getting low every day, but not at the minimum line since the first mechanic filled it to the top. There is not apparent leak under neath the car. No smell when I start. Oil is not milky. Called first mechanic he said sounds like a blown head gasket....
Car is Honda Accord 1999, 138K miles.
I was adding some fuel from a can to my Ranger last evening and I noticed gas was dripping on the ground. I traced it to, as best as I can tell, where the inlet pipe meets the tank.
Cannot see up there at all so not sure how it is attached. How I might be able to repair it without dropping the whole tank. Some kind of goop I can reach up there with and lather on to try and curb the leak?
Well my car is crapping out lately,
I put a new steering rack in my mk4 1.8t jetta about a week before I parked it for winter. I went out to the garage yesterday and noticed a pool of PS fluid on the ground, I located one very small leak from the bottom banjo bolt on the rack (needs new crush washers, Was in a rush and didn't have time to pick new ones up :bang head: ).
But the part that confuses me is there is a puddle on/under the passenger side subframe, the rack boot appears to be dry, and I don't believe the new rack is faulty, they are supposed to be all tested and approved before reaching the buyer. and when I turn the car on I can't see a leak anywhere even with the wheel off and a decent view of the rack.
I know this may sound weird, but lately every time I am standing behind my car, I feel like the back bumper is really close to the ground and the whole back just seems really low to the floor. I am tall but not THAT tall at 5'7" and I can easily see the top of the car when I'm standing back there...opening the trunk etc.
View 13 RepliesService is coming. I have road service reimbursement. Do I have to disconnect ground cable if jumping it to start and not recharging it? The service guy said they would hook up a charge box to it but didn't need to take off the ground cable. I should make sure he switched the power of the box off when connecting and disconnecting the cables, right?
Does it work to leave it idling or do I have to drive it and for how long? Manual shows a way to jump from another vehicle, but it needs another car with a 12V battery. Most cars have a 12V battery though don't they, or are they the wrong type and have to have another hybrid car to jump from. Do you use regular cables to do this?
What is reverse polarity and what did they do to the car that damaged the control system?
Last night I was driving on a country road and all the sudden, a deer came running out in front of me! Now they say to just go ahead and hit the deer, but naturally, I swerved and the car went one way, then when it came back the rear of the car swung around into a ditch. I was going about 50mph or so, and all I remember seeing was a lot of dirt and dust when the car was skidding sideways , I felt my body shift its weight and before I knew it, I seen the windshield cracking from the top due it hitting the ground. Then when the car was at rest, I was hanging upside down in the complete dark and the only light was the MFD and the speedometer. I sat there for about three seconds before taking off my seat belt and falling to the roof, and trying to find a window to crawl out of. Luckily, I escaped without any broken bones and no scratches at all. I am very impressed with the Gen. I Prius, it performed a lot better than what I thought and kept me out of harms way.
View 19 RepliesThe clock/CD player in my Prius 2001 stopped working after I accidentally touched a red wire to ground/car body. The 7.5A fuse next to it is fine, so are the visible fuses. The radio is OK too, with the previous setting.
A Toyota mechanic told me that the clock/CD player needed to be replaced since one of the 4 wires to the clock has power.
But the clock can start to run after ACC is on and can be barely visible when headlights are on. It seems that there are 2 sets of power to the clock, one for display and the other is always-on for clock running, and the always-on power is down.
After I checked the wires I think the always-on power may come from the metal box(~5"x5", is it a computer?) under dashboard if it's not from a gateway box.
Having problem with the rear valance being too low? I have a very steep driveway and last week hit the approach at a weird angle, the rear corner caught on the drive and popped the panel out on the lower side. I was able to pop it back into place without any damage but this is something to be aware of... I wonder if the Nissan Leaf will have more ground clearance? That will be the new stable mate for the Prius.

It's not a little wheel hop its a loud clunk that feels like the tire comes off the ground. I changed the cv axle from the side that seemed to be doing it but it didn't work. Could it be the actuator?
View 1 RepliesSo when it rains sometimes my ABS will go off till I drive it down the road a bit... Where is the location of the ground wire for this thing? I've checked up under it and no wires are cut or burnt... just wonder where this thing grounds to... if I can find that I may be able to clean it and fix the sensor.... because something makes me believe the sensor isn't bad, because some times it works for a half mile or so... before it goes back on.
View 6 RepliesMy 2007 F150 5.4L would not crank at all the other morning. After checking the battery, I discovered that the ground wire to the starter was completely frayed and broken off right at the eyelet connector to the starter. I spliced it back together and the truck fired right up.
However, the check engine light suddenly appeared and I got a P0453 code which apparently indicates a high reading at the fuel pressure sensor. The CEL never appeared until the broken wire happened. I took a quick look at the fuel pressure sensor and wiring and nothing appears to be obviously broken.
One other thing I've noticed for a few weeks is a miss under load while driving. I have not seen any codes at all for the miss. I was leaning toward replacing the coil overs but now I'm wondering if the miss is related to the fuel pressure sensor.
I found a loose blue/white ground wire in my engine compartment. Where this exactly needs to be ground ed to? Been having dash cluster light issues also.
View 2 RepliesCleaned the engine and determined the location of this oil leak. I am posting two pics. The far away shot shows the leak in the center of the picture...near the motor mount. The close up pic u can see the leak coming from a vertical seam just Below where the half shaft enters the transaxle. It is definitely motor oil, not transmission oil.
View 5 RepliesI have a coolant leak that appears on the outside of the transmission. The Toyota dealer tells me it is an O ring between the transmission and the engine, and this part is not individually replaceable. The dealer says there is a lot of rust in the transmission, which is what caused the problem, and they want $1800 to replace the transmission with a used (125K miles) one.
The Prius is a 2004 model with 100K miles on it.
I just realized this leak under my 2007 Prius not too long ago. Attached is an image of the leak, and I circled where it is coming from. It is coming from the front of the car. Is this an issue?

View 12 RepliesI drained all the coolant from the radiator and engine. After I fill up and bleed the air from the system. I'm very sure no air inside the engine. The next day I found have air gurgling inside the heater core. Look like have a small leak but I check all the engine, host and radiator no leaks. The last think to think is heater core and heater core host. How can I check both parts? If they leak. How hard to change? Can I DIY?
