I know this may sound weird, but lately every time I am standing behind my car, I feel like the back bumper is really close to the ground and the whole back just seems really low to the floor. I am tall but not THAT tall at 5'7" and I can easily see the top of the car when I'm standing back there...opening the trunk etc.
View 13 RepliesMy bumper is moving when my ex isn't parked on flat ground. Almost like the frame is twisting. Enough that it shifted up and cracked my grill. What could be going on? I didn't snap a pic but I'll try to get one. Get back on flat ground and it relaxes back to where it should be, flat and level.

Nothing large and in your face, but something someone might notice as they cruised along behind or next to me. So that might even mean dynamic brightness to prevent people from being blinded at night, or it being a distraction.

View 8 RepliesI opened the trunk to put something in this morning and when I tried to close it the darn thing kept bouncing right back up. So I luckily brought it directly to the dealership who was able to get me an appt. at 11:30 the same day. By 11:45 I got a call that the trunk latch was faulty and had been replaced and the car was ready to go.It was really annoying because there is no way to actually tie down the trunk if it won't close, so I had to drive to the dealership with my trunk open! You'd think they could have put some type of clips or hooks to hook up.
View 23 RepliesThe backup camera under the vw logo staying open. Mine takes at least 10 seconds to close, and if I don't wait and turn off the car, it will remain open which prevent you from opening the hatch. It's become extremely annoying, especially Christmas shopping in the rain!!

View 6 Replies I was cleaning the underside of my trunk area and noticed the bolts to the back bumper underneath were spinning freely. Not being mechanically inclined, I thought they needed to be tightened. They didn't tighten. Well that got me checking other panels and low and behold I found a few loose ones.
So, is this a DIY project, or one I should take to the dealership? Since it's out of warranty, I'm fine with paying if need be to get everything tight on the outside of the car. But if it's not too difficult, I'd be willing to try.
If it's a DIY, then what are the steps? I looked around the internet but haven't seen anything.
The drivers windows when engaging the auto up will close then go back to it's previous position. I physically have to keep the button engaged for the window to close... Otherwise, it works...
View 2 RepliesA couple of weeks back out of the blue my Nav screen stopped tilting back and of course if it doesn't tilt back the door won't close. I did the Lexus Diagnosis on the Tilt and Close Switches and it turns out to be something in the 'Nav' unit. Of course Lexus doesn't sell parts for the Nav unit... just the whole thing.
Since that time I have spent way too much time on diagnosing it and I actually tried another used unit that has the same problem as mine. What I think that I have figured out is that the motors are ok but the control unit, a small circuit board within the nav unit has failed. The problem is that this unit has 2-3 IC chips on it and any way to repair this circuit board.
Any luck repairing these circuit board or am I stuck.... The I was able to retract the unit into the dash and the door opens and closes but it would be nice if it tilted as they had intended...
The dealer tells me my oil is leaking and I need a new oil pan. After leaving the car in the garage overnight, I backed it out this morning and there is absolutely nothing under the car except a couple of water puddles (we've been having rain). Can my oil leak and not get on the ground?
View 7 RepliesService is coming. I have road service reimbursement. Do I have to disconnect ground cable if jumping it to start and not recharging it? The service guy said they would hook up a charge box to it but didn't need to take off the ground cable. I should make sure he switched the power of the box off when connecting and disconnecting the cables, right?
Does it work to leave it idling or do I have to drive it and for how long? Manual shows a way to jump from another vehicle, but it needs another car with a 12V battery. Most cars have a 12V battery though don't they, or are they the wrong type and have to have another hybrid car to jump from. Do you use regular cables to do this?
What is reverse polarity and what did they do to the car that damaged the control system?
Last night I was driving on a country road and all the sudden, a deer came running out in front of me! Now they say to just go ahead and hit the deer, but naturally, I swerved and the car went one way, then when it came back the rear of the car swung around into a ditch. I was going about 50mph or so, and all I remember seeing was a lot of dirt and dust when the car was skidding sideways , I felt my body shift its weight and before I knew it, I seen the windshield cracking from the top due it hitting the ground. Then when the car was at rest, I was hanging upside down in the complete dark and the only light was the MFD and the speedometer. I sat there for about three seconds before taking off my seat belt and falling to the roof, and trying to find a window to crawl out of. Luckily, I escaped without any broken bones and no scratches at all. I am very impressed with the Gen. I Prius, it performed a lot better than what I thought and kept me out of harms way.
View 19 RepliesThe clock/CD player in my Prius 2001 stopped working after I accidentally touched a red wire to ground/car body. The 7.5A fuse next to it is fine, so are the visible fuses. The radio is OK too, with the previous setting.
A Toyota mechanic told me that the clock/CD player needed to be replaced since one of the 4 wires to the clock has power.
But the clock can start to run after ACC is on and can be barely visible when headlights are on. It seems that there are 2 sets of power to the clock, one for display and the other is always-on for clock running, and the always-on power is down.
After I checked the wires I think the always-on power may come from the metal box(~5"x5", is it a computer?) under dashboard if it's not from a gateway box.
Well one of the bulbs in my regular halogen housings went out, so I went and bought a pair and replaced the bulbs. Everything was great until I took a testdrive and noticed I was signalling MIR (or I guess the ISS this millenium) illuminating road signs very well, and the ground not so well...

I have a very steep driveway and last week hit the approach at a weird angle, the rear corner caught on the drive and popped the panel out on the lower side. I was able to pop it back into place without any damage but this is something to be aware of... I wonder if the Nissan Leaf will have more ground clearance? That will be the new stable mate for the Prius.

There is a black plastic piece hanging and touch the ground, the noise was from this black plastic piece touching the ground. Attached is the picture.Is this a big problem? Can I continue to drive the car to repair shop to get this fixed?

View 1 RepliesI've had my 2010 Gen III for about five months. I play in a folk band and we do a lot of gigs in DC and Northern Virginia. We have to haul a lot of stuff, and my Prius holds it all.
But in just a few months my rear bumper has gotten all scratched up moving stuff in and out of the car. I looked around for something I could cover it with to protect it from scratches. The dealership said they could put a non-skid decal on the flat part, but I wanted something that covered a little more.
