I have a 07 prius with 60k Km. right now, everytime i go thru a hole, there is always a noise like something is loose. It also sounds like a rattles too. The noise seems to came from the front driver side tire (i have the right side driver japan version prius ). I assume it was the shocks / struts that needs replacement.
View 1 RepliesThe rear spoiler on my 2005 has always had a bit of "flex" to it and I've always been careful not to use it to open or close the hatch. Unfortunately, I can't be sure that others not do that as it really is the place someone would think to grab to close the hatch.
Anyway, the other day I noticed that the spoiler had picked up a nasty rattle whenever the hatch was closed. Looking from the outside in I saw that there appeared to be two plastic fasteners (one on each end) that held the spoiler in place. If I pressed down on one side the other side popped up and vice versa. I was able to get the spoiler back to where it originally was (loose but no real rattle).
The car has never been in an accident and the spoiler doesn't appear to be bent in anyway...it just seems as if the fasteners aren't holding it down as tightly as they should. Is this the norm? Should I replace the fasteners and any instructions on how to do it?
I hear a jingle metallic noise from my front right rim when I hit small fast bumps, but not big smooth bumps. I took off the wheel and was able to pull the disc outward. The caliper held the other end, but area opposite was able to move. I checked the left front side of car and it wouldn't move at all. From what I've read the disc seems to slide off the front axle hub so maybe that is normal. Not sure why left won't move but right easily slides out. If I took off caliper it would come right off. It should be tight enough when the wheel is mounted I assume.
View 6 RepliesMy wife drove her new (2000 miles) Prius 4 home (300 miles) with a rattle from the left rear. Dealers were totally unresponsive - either put me on voice mail or said I had to wait a week for an appointment. The third dealer I called said I could bring it in and they might take a look at it. Five days later I have a new shock and a bill for the rental car. Not what I expected from Toyota! I noted that one other person on Priuschat had a problem with a loose rear shock.

View 11 RepliesMy driver door is just loose enough to rattle on bumps and it's quite annoying. I've loosened the striker and tapped it in as far as it'll go with the hammer and it is still not tight enough. I need about 1/4 inch more and that's about how worn my striker is. Obviously I need to buy new a new striker based on the wear, but am I the only one with strikers wearing too much to be adjusted and causing rattles ?
View 7 RepliesAfter 3 years and couple months my red prius in faithful service, i finally got by the wind noise everyone is talking about...
At first, I suspected the license plate frame was the issue and also checking around the front end to see if there's are anything that stuck in the bumper gap, wheel wall, and underneath the car but the noise still there.
Finally today...I do actually found it...I tested by either removing or putting on a new 3M tape over one of the screw hole underneath the door site mirror. Over time, some will peel off or break losses and the "gap" is the source for the high pitch noise when you driving fast enough on a road. Mine happen at around 55mph.
Ever since I remove the sticker, the noise gone. One thing I'm not sure why there are factory stickers there. But I decided to remove it because I saw water inside the 3m tape after raining.
My car is making this noise. Its only at idle. Doesn't affect fuel economy, just alarming.

View 4 RepliesI need to get the part number of the wire harness connector that clicks into the right abs sensor connector. The code for the connector is A4 but I wasn't able to find any info about it online. This is for a 2009 Toyota Prius. car got into an accident and the wire harness connector was cut.

The metal key that comes out of the Key Fob is broken, is it replaceable from anywhere other than Toyota? The key fob is perfectly fine no issues with it.
View 1 RepliesI noticed a 1'x2' square in the bottom passenger side corner of the radiator covered in green oily gunk. Ive had the 2008 for about 1000 miles (has 58k) so Im assuming its been there for a while. Seems like its impeding airflow. Its very green.
View 5 RepliesI replaced my front brakes today and not sure if I got the rattle clip back on right as it seems loose. After driving for a little bit, it seems the clip might be wiggling it self loose.
In addition to this, my brakes sounds terrible. Lots of squeals.
I have replaced many brakes and never ran into this issue before. I cleaned everything up and greased the contact points with brake grease. I then did the bed in process that Hawk recommends for their pads.
Finally took the Wolf in to see about an engine rattle thats been getting worse. The culprit - loose engine mount bolts! Dealer decided to order new bolts, not just tighten the old ones. Also mentioned a recall for the transmission software. Odd that the "recall" wasn't listed on-line for my VIN. It must be the one that smooths the tranny a bit, it is a bit jumpy at low speed.

View 24 RepliesIve been having problems with my o2 sensor behind the left cat coming loose and causing a horrible rattle. Ive tightened the hell out of it a few times and it lasted around 4k miles each. recently i tightened it again and it comes loose within like 20 miles. I was gonna put lock tight on it but with the wiring going into the sensor i cant back it all the way out. I just said screw it and put some JB weld metal putty on it to hold and it lasted like 2 days and now its rattling again. I guess next step is find out how to take apart the sensor so i can un thread and lock tight it....electrical stuff scares me though.
View 3 RepliesMy '04 Prius is currently at 134k miles and I've noticed for a while that the front suspension feels and sounds "loose" over small bumps and imperfections on the road.
I also just started noticing some squeaking noise coming from the axle/hub when I first drive off in the morning.
I first thought the loose feeling could be worn out shocks, but I'm starting to worry that it would be something else.
I was driving home and suddenly the underside of my car *popped* and it sounded like my muffler came loose. Very loud exhaust/turbo whistle.
Luckily I was very close to home and was able to pull in when it completely fell off and started dragging on the street. What part of my exhaust is this and what should I do to repair it?
I just finished fixing a ton of stuff on her and now she does this ?
My 2012 Avalon developed a slight rattle at 9000 miles that continued to get worse. I took off the right front wheel today and found the top caliper bolt partially loosened. I could turn it with my FINGERS! The other one was tight as were the ones on the left side.
To diagnose this rattle, find a bumpy road that makes it rattle. Put your foot lightly on the brake (to load the caliper). If the noise goes away, it is probably a loose caliper bolt.
Just changed out the struts on my ACV36R Camry Altise. Fitted up some nice Monroe GT struts and Kings Springs (front and rear) as well as new Nolathane bushes throughout.
Now, everything is tight, checked over every nut and bolt with a torque wrench to the correct specs but I have a loose rattle sound coming from the front right strut. What it could be before I tear the whole lot out again? I've been around it with a rubber mallet trying to isolate the rattle but I can't replicate it by hitting any of the components that I've replaced.
I own a 2011 IS350 RWD. My 4 year warranty just expired. So when it comes to rattles, the 4yr/50k miles no longer cover my rattle concern.
I spent about my 3rd year on a rattle that seems like only occurs when its cold. On cold days/morning, this rattle between the dash will come and it sounds like a bolt is loose, and is moving around or something like that along the lines of that.
So right before my 4th year mark came, I brought it in one last time to hope they can get rid of it. Once I got the car back, it was during winter.. so it still happened, but instead it was a lot louder than before.
Is there anything I can do? Since I've been trying to bring it in to get it checked out for a good year, I'm hoping there's a way for the dealership to honor that one concern I have with my IS.
Other than this rattle, I love my car. The rattle can get pretty bad/annoying especially when you're on a phone call. I bring this issue up during every oil change to get it checked out.
