Yellow brake light turned on while driving in rain, then for some reason turned off. I had read somewhere this may be an indicator of wear on brake pads. I have a 90 mi. commute round trip, I will check again if this turns on and stays on. For now, it is off. what could be causing this?

First in the morning, starts fine, 500 feet later I'm turning out of neighborhood and I get lit up with:
Red triangle master light
Yellow brake warning (went away after I did signal check)
Check engine
Maint required light
The maintenance light is on because I'm 5,000 miles out of an oil change. I checked the stick, it did appear low, so I added a half quart of mobil 1 5w-30.
The inverter pump was changed due to recall in 2012, and I do still see turbulences in the fluid.
I have 3 pips of gasoline in the tank.
The 12V is a newly replaced yellowtop from elearnaid. Replaced about 1 year ago.
I've got some issues with my 2005 Toyata Prius (~150,000 miles). My wife was driving recently and the "Master Warning Light", the "Hybrid System Warning Light" and the yellow "Brake System Warning Light" all came on.
Some quick reading of the owners manual said we should take it to a dealer right away, but because it was a yellow, and not red, brake system warning light it seems ok to drive at least to a dealer. in regard to the yellow brake system light the manual said it could be that: "the regenerative brake system failed or that the hydraulic brake system failed".
Now, I have a cheap bluetooth OBD reader hooked up to the "torque" app on my phone and I thought I would try to see what error codes there were to learn more. But strangely, it did not read any fault codes. I've used this reader successfully on my 2001 Mitsubishi galant, but I'm not reading anything for the prius in this case. I'm not sure if there is legitimately no error code associate with the warning lights or if my app is just failing to read them for some reason.
At just about 21800 miles and 19 months service this morning the brake system warning light came on. This is the yellow brake system warning light, not the red brake warning light or the generally similar looking yellow low tire pressure warning light. No other warning lights are on in the service indicator panel. What troubleshooting can I do myself before taking it to service facility?
View 4 RepliesMy case involves a 2005 Prius with 55k miles on it with the problem of the master warning light (triangle with !), yellow brake light ( (!) ), airbag, and VSC lights coming on whilst driving. The car drives just perfectly fine without any discernible problems. Scan tool did not detect any codes. Tested the 12v auxiliary battery and it is strong with both voltage and amperage (even went as far as temporarily jury-rigging a fresh v12 battery in parallel with it to see if it would alleviate the problem). Inverter coolant pump runs well, coolant changed with appropriate Toyota Super Long Life coolant (50/50 mix) and system bled. Despite some drivers' concerns over disconnecting the 12v battery to reset the lights, this was done and the lights would go out, only to have them come on again after about 5-10 minutes of driving. Asides from the lights coming up, the car itself seems to be asymptomatic. Hybrid system appears to be running smooth and fine, SOC is good, asides from the lights the car drives very well.
View 9 RepliesMy wife and I are driving our 2005 Prius with 130k miles and have experienced some weirdness with the car while driving. We've got the master warning light (red triangle w/ !), and another yellow (!) warning light, plus the center display shows a red car with an !. I've gathered that it means something possibly with the brake controller, so when I parked I put the e-brake on.
The car was driving fine with these lights on (we were in the middle of Canadian highways and couldn't stop anywhere) except that cruise control would not work.
Eventually, it actually went into limp mode, where we would floor the pedal and the car would barely accelerate. Pulled over, turned it off for a few minutes, then back on and it drove fine, warning lights still on.
I just replaced the driver's front wheel hub, and I can hear the passenger front going bad, so I'm suspicious that this may be related. Just replaced the 12v within the last few months with an Optima.
My yellow (circle with line on each side) warning light for brakes is on in my 2005 VW Touareg. Only 9 months ago I replaced the front pads, rotors and sensors. When I put the car in drive and start to move the warning light flashes 'check front brake pads'. Is it possible it's something simple like a sensor? Is there a way for me to check that? Side note: I replaced the rear brake pads and rotors only 5,000 miles before that. I just want to see if it could be something simple before I take it in to be checked out and told it's something more sinister. I checked the level of brake fluid and it is full.
View 3 RepliesIn my one-owner purchased-new 2005 Prius w/ 74K miles and w/ no maintenance/accident history other than doing all scheduled maintenances at Toyota Dealers along w/ recalls applicable at each time (other than we had Toyota replace the 12V battery last year just because I knew it would die at some point anyway and I don't like pushing my luck; I'm not 100% certain if there's been a recall on any water pump for this car and if so, don't believe the dealer has mentioned it), I have the following indicators which appeared all at once while I was driving along at around 45 MPH in no unusual circumstances (80F, dry afternoon, about 30 minutes into a trip of mixed speeds, no loads in the vehicle, no effect on the car while driving):
From Left to Right on the display:
1) Red Triangle - Master Warning Light
2) Orange (Symbol)CHECK - Malfunction Indicator Lamp
3) Orange (!) - Brake Warning Light (but it didn't highlight the word 'Brake' in red)
4) Orange VSC - Vehicle Stability Control Warning Light
On the Screen:

We immediately aimed for the house (about 5 miles away); the car drove perfectly fine, with the engine stopping and starting at lights as needed, with speeds going from the 55MPH we were traveling at the time of the alarms down to 0 and back up thru 35/45 MPH and such per normal off-interstate driving. The battery currently shows all the blue bars, and the engine and hybrid systems showed charge/discharge as usual as we drove. There was no discernible change in the driving reaction of the car to brake, steering, accelerator, etc.
My 2005 Prius has about 141000 miles on it. The red triangle exclamation point comes on the dash and a yellow exclamation comes on the LCD 1st and then a 2nd yellow symbol comes on the LCD. The problem happens once or twice a day. It seems to start, run, and drive just fine. I do restore antique tractors and I am pretty good with computers and I have some pretty good mechanical know how. Attached are pictures of the lights.
View 1 RepliesThis morning I got a yellow warning light flash for a few seconds and then turn solid after driving on the highway for a few minutes. It looks this: (_!_). It is located on the right of the dash display. I just changed my oil and put on winter tires myself two days ago. I hope it isn't related to my maintenance.
View 10 RepliesI just installed new front brakes and rotors on my 2004 2.7L AWD, and since then the brake warning light on the dash comes on occasionally. Typically, it will turn on when applying the brakes. Usually for a longer period of time to a stop. (Rolling up to a stop sign/stop light, rather than slowing down for a turn). It will either stay on for about 15 seconds or not go off until I hit the brakes again. My e-brake handle is all the way down.
View 1 RepliesI currently have a MK5 Jetta and my wife's van lease is up. I'm looking at picking up a 2001 Wagon 1.8t and giving her the Jetta. It checks out real well, the only issue is the oil pressure warning comes on after about 5-10 minutes of driving. Turn the car off and back on it goes away. He changed the oil when he got it a couple weeks ago, and didn't change the filter, he's taking it to his shop to have it re-done, and he was going to drop the pan and check the screen and pick-up and such. Has this been an issue or what may cause this?
View 2 RepliesI have a mk4 Jetta 1.8t. Problem started last night. After I drive for about 15-20 minutes the oil pressure warning light comes on. It doesn't feel any different and my oil is full. Could my pump be going bad? I hear a slight tick near the bottom of the engine on the passenger side. But the car idles fine and drives fine too.
View 17 RepliesWe recently purchased a used 2006 Prius. The vehicle has approximately 74K on it now. Well the other day my wife went to leave work and pressed the power button while pressing the brake pedal, and the Master Warning Light and brake warning light both came on. The car would not allow her to shift the car so she tried to turn it off and it wouldn't do that either. After about 5 minutes she finally got the car to turn off, and when she restarted the sequence everything went back to normal and she drove home fine.
We called 2 dealers and they both seem to be confused by the symptoms, but one thought that maybe the battery was old on the transmitter. So thinking that might make sense I replaced the battery with a new one.
My carmy had run for 82000 miles now, and never had a problem til now. When I start the car, the "check engine light" turns on. When I go driving, after 2 seconds the car slip warning light turns on.
Both warning lights keep on blinking all the time. Here's a photo of the warning lights: [URL] .... I mean the photo at the row in the middle, with the car sign on it.
I charged the almost dead 12v with a slow charger and it is fine now. but immediately after charging the brake system light came on. I believe brakes are just fine, and want to reset the light and see if it will ever give again.
View 3 RepliesI had a transient warning light appear on my 2008 Prius during a recent drive from the Portland, Oregon area to Seattle . The reason I'm posting this is that this icon isn't listed in the owners manual, nor does it come on when you start up (boot up) the Prius. Also this warning is on the same line as the "ready" and air re circulation icon. On the right side of the display ( the usual low pressure tire, and I think traction control warning icons are on the line below).
This occurred about 135 miles into my drive at the infamous Interstate 5 as you enter Tacoma, Wa ( stop and go traffic) the icon is yellow /Amber a box with 3 yellow squiggle lines which are vertical and cross just past the bottom of the box. After about 15 minutes the warning light went out. It never came back. I have 115k miles and car was recently serviced. I wonder if this is some air flow / ventilation warning. I am overdue to check cabin AF but am unaware there would ce a warning for that. The AC seemed just fine and no effect on the cars performance. Weird.
2008 Prius touring model, owned since Dec 212. Brake system warning light went on when our rainy season started and went off briefly, but is now on all the time.

View 2 RepliesI just purchased this vehicle from a private owner, and the first day everything seemed fine. After a few days I get all these warning lights - Master Warning (Red Triangle !), VSC, and the Brake Light, plus the NAV screen shows the red car with ! in it. The car seems to run just fine though. I don't notice any performance issues. One thing I did notice when I purchased the vehicle, the previous owner had a batter charger in the trunk before he took it out.
Now I've check the batter using the LAN Monitor and it shows like 12.1 volts when I turned the car on (not started). I decided to give the batter a deep charge overnight (2 amp charge) after disconnecting NEG terminal from car. It cleared the codes for a little while, but then they came back. My ODB II tester shows no codes, only codes I found on the LAN Monitor was for NAVI - 01-e3 sub 00-5. Do I need to replace the 12v Battery?
