I've had my 2013 Prius for 2 years...first time that I've heard 5 beeps while driving, has happened twice this week, both times after 2-3 hours of distance driving. It's never happened before. Done some research to no avail.
View 5 RepliesI am new to the Prius experience as I just bought by 2013 Prius 3 last week. I have a question on the EV mode and how it works when I am in normal drive.
This is something I observed when I am driving and I wanted to check whether it's normal.
When I am accelerating, vehicle is in EV mode and the progress bar is green. As soon as it pass the separator in the hybrid indicator (it turns white), the EV mode light turns off. When I hit the brakes, speed goes down with the acceleration and the progress bar goes back towards the green side. However my EV mode light does not turn on until I go way too close to the charging section of the bar. Once it's enabled, it stays in EV mode (green) until I pass the separator again.
I recently purchased a 2013 prius two. My building's parking garage is very long (full city block) and narrow, and I have to back out of it each time I leave. While I understand the benefits of the beeping, it is SO LOUD! Is there any way to lower the volume? I know I can take it to the dealer to get it switched to one beep, but all I really want to do is make it quieter, not go away. Alternatively, where the speaker the sound comes out of is? Maybe I can muffle it with tape or something.
View 4 RepliesI have 2008 LX, i press brake, green light comes on, pressing button to start everything goes to work (radio, lights, vents etc) but not engine, it does 4 long beeps, then continues beeping. Tried with both keys and both immobilizers, tested batteries, they all good.
View 3 RepliesI definitely thought this was because my fob batteries were low, because 2010 Prius started beeping three beeps while driving last week, but while parked in the garage (OFF), with both fobs very far away from the car, it's beeping three beeps every 20 seconds. I even locked it using the fob, and it's still beeping every 20 seconds.
I've got two new fob batteries on order, but I worry the 12v is working overtime. What else could it be??? My sister's 2009 Prius is also parked in the driveway..
About once a week our 2011 Prius will start, but the "Ready" indicator does not come on and the car cannot be shifted into drive. Once this happens it takes several attempts, turning the car on/off, until it finally comes on "Ready." I cannot create the problem, but it may stem from pushing the start button before the brake is fully depressed.
Last night it took more than 5 minutes to get it going. I "reset" the car by exiting, locking, and re entering the car. Then it worked, that procedure caused it to work.
The dealer was able to quite that beeping door unlock. Nothing bugs the neighbor more than my frequent in/out late at night.
View 2 Replies2011 Four - I changed both the engine air and the cabin air filters this week. Since then I am getting random chimes. These are low in volume and are in no way related to the obnoxious beeps from the seat belt and reverse warnings. Some of these chimes start out like the familiar pattern that some clocks make prior to ringing out the hours. Some of the chimes are only 2 or 3 notes long. There does not seem to be any pattern as to when these chimes come. There are no indications on the display panel. I am stumped.
View 19 RepliesI have a 2010 Model I with only 19K miles on it (purchased new). For the past year or so, at any time throughout the night it will give out 5 beeps for apparently no reason. I have reset the system by disconnecting the alternate battery and have used a PocketScan Plus to test the systems which shows no problems.

View 3 RepliesI'm having a very strange problem with my 2011 Prius.
About two and a half hours ago, I drove home and parked my Prius for the night. About an hour after I parked, my Prius started beeping, three short beeps, every couple of munutes. It's now been doing this for over 90 minutes. Because I can hear it from the house, it is very, very, very annoying.
I have checked all of the doors, and also took the car out for a quick spin around the block, in hopes of getting the beeping to stop. No luck. It keeps beep-beep-beeping every few minutes.
It has been unusually cold here the past couple of days, in case that has anything to do with it. That being said, it was a good 10-15 degrees colder yesterday, yet the car wasn't having this problem. It only started this evening.
My question is, what in the world could be causing this beeping? Is there any way to stop it?
A 2010 Prius III: Its been a few days now that its doing this.
While I'm driving, the car would start to beep fast (3-4 beeps per sec), the brake and steering wheel stops working, its very stiff and brake pedal is hard! Along with that, there's 4 lights came on the dash; traction control, abs, brake and tire pressure. All this happens when the car starts to beep, and the beep last anywhere from 2-5 second, constantly!
I checked everything and its normal, gas half tank, keyless key is in my pocket, all doors closed, brake pads looks good, tires are good. I've had this car for 4 years, its at 45k miles.
After dining at a restaurant in East Lansing when temp was close to zero F., we found the doors frozen. Not a problem: one yank and they open. Then as soon as we reach 12 mph, instead of the auto lock, the driver's door unlatches and the warning light and beeps come on. Stop. Close door. Continue. Same again. Start, manually lock doors, and at 12 mph driver's door unlatches. And again. Drive home with warning lights and beeps. No problem next day. But curious.
View 2 RepliesI recently leased a 2013 RX 350 and started hearing a weird loud noise almost in the first week itself. It seems to happen whenever I shift the gears from Reverse to Drive. The loud noise comes from the back of the car and anyone sitting in the car (speakers turned off) can hear/feel it. It seems to be worse in the morning (or when the engine is cold).
I took it to the lexus service center and the person told me something about differential pressure, which I really didn't understand:-). However, he said nothing can be done and its not a safety issue and sent me back home without any fix. I have driven many cars in my life so far and never ever came across something like this. Is it something normal at all?
unlike a lot of my fellow prii folks, i love the beeps. My favorite one is the confirmation of locking the doors by touch of handle and also unlocking by touch. Believe it or not i even like the backup beep which is kind of like a nice confirmation of "yo, dude! we are going backwards" but the most important one for me is the long single loud beep. happened the other day when i got out of my car to get a coke and the car emitted a continuous loud shrill beep as i started to walk away. I was still in drive.

View 4 RepliesI am suddenly getting 8 mpg decrease both long and short trips. Rotated tires, checked psi and did an alignment but couldn't find cause. I remember my old car had an engine thermostat and when that was stuck open or close the mpg decreased a lot too.
View 19 RepliesIt seems like it takes an awfully long time for the good mileage to get going from a cold start - even when it's warm outside. The last 5 miles of my commute are great, but the first 10 miles not so much. How much effect does ambient air temperature have on this process.
View 15 RepliesI've noticed that after sitting over night my battery for the hybrid system is not charged enough to operate the car in EV or for the first mile or two it does not seem to use as much electric power to supplement the car. After a couple miles it is charged or near charged and I see more use.

View 19 RepliesJust hauled a twin mattress set on a 4 hour drive - naturally the tailgate was tied down, sort of half open. But why in heavens name does Toyota not let the beeping expire after a few minutes ? Of course I know the hatch is open !! Any way to defeat the door open beeper when carrying long loads?
