Just bought a 2011 Prius and I love it. When I push the power button to turn it on, the ESC light comes on along with the caution triangle light for about 3 seconds then both go off and the "ready" light comes on. is this a normal occurrence?
View 7 RepliesThe 2010 Prius in our garage would not start today. I tried jump starting it with the 12 volt in our van, but the light on our smart jumper cables would not light up on the Prius side even when I switched them around. I followed the manual's five minutes revving and such, but the ready light does not come on in the Prius. There is enough power for the inside lights to come on, but they are dimmed. I'm thinking we left the lights on in the back seat dome area based on what my daughter told me. The car has not been driven for about 65 hours.
View 14 RepliesI noticed on the way home the "ready" light was on the whole time. I've never noticed it staying on before but maybe just didn't pay attention to it. Is it supposed to be on continuously? What exactly is it for?
View 12 RepliesI've got a 2010 Prius w/ NAV. Yesterday morning, my Prius would not start. When I pressed on the brake, the green "Ready" button would not light up. When I pressed the start button, the NAV screen came on as did some of the dash lights, but the car engine itself was not on. When I hit the start button again, I had a yellow triangle on the left side of my screen that continued to blink.
From reviewing the forum, I believe that the issue is the 12V aux battery. I was able to get my car into maintenance mode, and the 12V battery was reading 8.6V; however, this was after my car had sat in the garage for 10 or so hours. However, by going into maintenance mode, I was again able to get my car to start. This morning, I drove my car to work (about a 15-20 minute drive). After I got to the office, I turned the car off and got back into maintenance mode. This time, it was reading 11.6V on the battery.
Am I correct that this is most likely an issue w/ the 12V battery going bad on me? I purchased my Prius in July 2010, and I have never changed the battery. It sounds like the "typical" lifespan for the battery is right around 4 years, so this seems to make sense.
I have a 2010 Prius that I bought in January. No problems until this morning. Here is the situation...
I get in my car, step on the brake, mash the start button and nothing. The green ready light does not come on, no key detected does not come on, nothing. However, if I take my FOB, and place it by the start button, the ready light will come on and it will start.
I thought it could be a battery issue but, this happens with both FOBs...
This started about 2 months ago. About 10% of the time when I depress the brake and press the Power button, all the dash lights come on except the Ready light (it acts as if I pressed the Power button twice without my foot on the brake). When I depress the brake a second time and press Power button again, the Ready light will still NOT come on. I have to press Power button with foot off the brake to shut off the dash lights (the car is effectively off) and then when I press Power button with foot on brake a second time, the Ready light will come on. I effectively have to try to start the car twice. I also noticed that the interior lights are dimmer when I open the driver's door until it goes through it's normal noisy gyration (something to do with the brakes?). I'm thinking that the 12-volt battery is starting to fail. Does my Gen III 2010 Prius have a diagnostic tool to check the battery?
View 4 RepliesSince I purchased my 2010 Prius new, it often won't start. As instructed, I press the brake, push the power button for a few seconds, and hope that the ready light will come on. Typically, the dashboard lights up but the ready light doesn't come on. It can take ten minutes or more to get the car started. This happens when the car is cold, or has been sitting for a while, or randomly at other times. The Toyota service department will only address the problem if they can replicate it. I've left it at the service department for a couple of days until they experienced the problem. They reset a computer component which worked for three months. Now the issue is happening again and I'm back to trying to convince Toyota that it's a problem.
View 5 RepliesSo our '06 Prius has been very, very reliable, and we have a bit over 105K miles on it now. But we have a problem that the dealer hasn't been able to confirm, much less fix.
Probably three months ago now I began to notice that, from time to time, when I started the Prius, the master caution light (red triangle) would come on for 2-3 seconds. At no point did it stay on, and at no point did the Prius fail to start. So, it was an intermittent caution light of brief duration.
Then we had a bad storm coming (Sandy) and although it wasn't nearly as bad here (N. VA) as it could have been, I put the Prius in the garage, and it sat there for three days. When I went out to start it, the 12 volt battery was dead.
Fortunately I always back into the garage, and so jump starting the Prius - although it was my first time doing so - was no problem, and I got it to the dealer that morning. They tested the battery, and it was fine. They checked the codes, and all was well. It was as if the battery had never died. AND we stopped seeing the master caution light ... until two days ago, when my wife said that she saw the light a couple of times when she was out running errands.
Is it possible to have a problem with the 12 volt battery and/or electrical system that doesn't show up in the codes? And am I wrong to lose confidence in this very, very reliable car??
My check engine and red triangle light came on. I checked the code and it's a battery issue. The code is P0A7F. I called the dealer and they want me to bring the car in for a check.
I'm afraid it will lead to me replacing the battery. I have about 117,000 miles on the car. They have a service bulletin open on this code but I may have exceeded the 100,000 mile limit.
If I do need to replace the battery are there any improvements I can make in this area?
Quick Question: I was driving through my neighborhood yesterday and hit a pretty good bump. I as hit the brakes, a quick Yellow Triangle Light illuminated on my dash. There were no other warning lights that I could see and the warning light was only on for a split-second. What could've caused this? BTW, I have a 2013 Prius LB 3 purchased new in August w/ only 1230 miles as of today...

It start overheating where a triangle light would come in the left corner of the Dash display at the same time it would say check Hybrid system and that would happen after 20 Minutes of driving. If I still keep on driving after 5 minutes all the warning light come on and the car doesn't move. I replaced the water pump.but still the same thing.

I thought it was my remote battery so I Changed the battery and still nothing works. I get the Orange caution light on the dash and a clicking sound from the engine area . No lights come on. Nothing.
View 5 RepliesMy wife and I own a 2006 Toyota Prius that we bought used 2 years ago. a couple of days ago, the master warning light (red triangle exclamation point) and check engine light came on. I took it into the dealer and of course, our hybrid battery was dead - battery and a new ECU required.
Our car is at 99,000 and 32 days out of warranty. Went down the road to atlanta hybrid repair. they were incredibly nice, and said that my computer was fine, but the battery would need to be replaced.
2nd time I've had this problem. With the car turned on "ready light" on, the car will not shift into D. It just stays in park, and yes my foot is on the brake. I've tried to reset by turning the car off, turning it on again and shifting into D, still no luck. By retrying this over and over it finally goes into Drive and away I go. I've had the car for 3months and 5k miles, and this has only happened twice.
The second time occurred when I was stopped by a flagman at a road construction site. Instead of shutting down, I just pushed the park button. The lights were on, the radio playing and my garmin was plugged in and the AC was on, would the high load have caused the problem? When I pulled the plug on the Garmin, the car went into gear on the next try, but I don't know if there is a cause and effect. I finally got it going after about 25 cars had to go around me and the last car was passing me when it finally went into D.
I have 2004 Toyota Prius 110k miles on it. New auxilary battery on it. VSC, Brake and Red triangle lights are on. The car wont start. System comes on, but ready light doesn't not appear.
If I discoonect the battery for a minute and connect it back, I am able to start and drive it. After a minute VSC, brake light comes on. I still can drive the car and it drives perfect. As soon as I shut it off, I won't be able to restart it again. I have to disconnect the battery for a minute to get it started. Inverter pump seems to be working fine.
I got the codes with the paper clip VSC 43, Brake 36. After resetting the codes, I drove the car and now it throws VSC 51 code.
Check engine light is not on. When I checked with OBD scanner, it does not show any codes. When we checked with shop's scanner, there was a code smth "LOST COMMUNICATION WITH HYBRID..."
I replaced the HV Control ECU on my 2007 Prius, because my coding scan read POA1D. Now the lights on the dash all light up, but the Ready light does not come on.

View 13 RepliesI have a 2005 prius with 38,160 miles I started it and shut it off and then tried restarting and now does not want to start. The ready light does not go on and the start button becomes orange.
I checked my 12 volt and it gave a reading of 12.2 volts. These are the engine codes that come up:
U0111 comes up twice
C0200

C1310

I just replaced the 12V battery with an Optimus yellow top. The car still will not start. All dash lights come on, READY light does not. Car will only shift into Park and Neutral.
Battery reads 12.6 volts when not hooked up and 12.3 when cables attached to terminals.
I have a 2006 Prius that is giving me fits. The car is equipped with the smart key but it seems to be working normally. I insert the key, press the brake, and then press the power button like I am supposed to but the "ready" light doesn't come on and the car won't start. I checked the brake light switch and it is working correctly. 12v battery is charged and shows 12.35 volts. I have been tinkering with the car for the past three days and have only gotten the light to come on and the car to start twice out of the numerous tries.
The last time it started the dreaded "triangle" and check engine light were on so I plugged my scanner in and got code P0A1F, I had a spare battery ECU so I replaced it, while I was at it I removed the battery and cleaned the terminals, there was only a very small amount of light corrosion on a couple of cells. All cells tested good and had uniform voltage. I haven't gotten the car to start since putting everything back together. I have a small amount of experience with these cars but I've got alot to learn.
