I noticed on the way home the "ready" light was on the whole time. I've never noticed it staying on before but maybe just didn't pay attention to it. Is it supposed to be on continuously? What exactly is it for?
View 12 RepliesSince I purchased my 2010 Prius new, it often won't start. As instructed, I press the brake, push the power button for a few seconds, and hope that the ready light will come on. Typically, the dashboard lights up but the ready light doesn't come on. It can take ten minutes or more to get the car started. This happens when the car is cold, or has been sitting for a while, or randomly at other times. The Toyota service department will only address the problem if they can replicate it. I've left it at the service department for a couple of days until they experienced the problem. They reset a computer component which worked for three months. Now the issue is happening again and I'm back to trying to convince Toyota that it's a problem.
View 5 RepliesThe 2010 Prius in our garage would not start today. I tried jump starting it with the 12 volt in our van, but the light on our smart jumper cables would not light up on the Prius side even when I switched them around. I followed the manual's five minutes revving and such, but the ready light does not come on in the Prius. There is enough power for the inside lights to come on, but they are dimmed. I'm thinking we left the lights on in the back seat dome area based on what my daughter told me. The car has not been driven for about 65 hours.
View 14 RepliesJust bought a 2011 Prius and I love it. When I push the power button to turn it on, the ESC light comes on along with the caution triangle light for about 3 seconds then both go off and the "ready" light comes on. is this a normal occurrence?
View 7 RepliesI've got a 2010 Prius w/ NAV. Yesterday morning, my Prius would not start. When I pressed on the brake, the green "Ready" button would not light up. When I pressed the start button, the NAV screen came on as did some of the dash lights, but the car engine itself was not on. When I hit the start button again, I had a yellow triangle on the left side of my screen that continued to blink.
From reviewing the forum, I believe that the issue is the 12V aux battery. I was able to get my car into maintenance mode, and the 12V battery was reading 8.6V; however, this was after my car had sat in the garage for 10 or so hours. However, by going into maintenance mode, I was again able to get my car to start. This morning, I drove my car to work (about a 15-20 minute drive). After I got to the office, I turned the car off and got back into maintenance mode. This time, it was reading 11.6V on the battery.
Am I correct that this is most likely an issue w/ the 12V battery going bad on me? I purchased my Prius in July 2010, and I have never changed the battery. It sounds like the "typical" lifespan for the battery is right around 4 years, so this seems to make sense.
I have a 2010 Prius that I bought in January. No problems until this morning. Here is the situation...
I get in my car, step on the brake, mash the start button and nothing. The green ready light does not come on, no key detected does not come on, nothing. However, if I take my FOB, and place it by the start button, the ready light will come on and it will start.
I thought it could be a battery issue but, this happens with both FOBs...
This started about 2 months ago. About 10% of the time when I depress the brake and press the Power button, all the dash lights come on except the Ready light (it acts as if I pressed the Power button twice without my foot on the brake). When I depress the brake a second time and press Power button again, the Ready light will still NOT come on. I have to press Power button with foot off the brake to shut off the dash lights (the car is effectively off) and then when I press Power button with foot on brake a second time, the Ready light will come on. I effectively have to try to start the car twice. I also noticed that the interior lights are dimmer when I open the driver's door until it goes through it's normal noisy gyration (something to do with the brakes?). I'm thinking that the 12-volt battery is starting to fail. Does my Gen III 2010 Prius have a diagnostic tool to check the battery?

View 11 RepliesI am still getting used to my new Prius, just have a little over 700 miles on it. I recently noticed something very strange with the car - if I am in "Ready" with ICE off, and I put it in drive and release the brakes, but do not press the accelerator, the car will slowly move forward, just like a regular auto transmission. After about 1 second the speed will reach about 2 mph and I can feel a very small rumble in the cabin and a very light vibration on the steering wheel. It sounds like a very low frequency bass, and it lasts for less than a second.
It goes away and the car continues to accelerate up to about 5mph (the accelerator is still not pressed). This sound is almost unnoticeable, and it does not happen if I release the brake and immediately press the accelerator, it only happens while creeping forward very slowly. I was able to make this sound/vibration last longer by "riding" the breaks and keeping the speed around 1-2 mph, it is very faint and I have really listen to it. To me I believe it is caused by some resonance/harmonics in MG2 turning at extremely low RPM, at least it "feels" somewhat "electric"...
I changed the bulb in my driver side brake light - routine -done a zillion bulb changes on my car. This time however the dashboard lights up every time I brake!! What gives? Something to do with the brake pedal triggering the brake light button in the footwell area under the dash? Its a 2000 Passat 1.8T sedan - manual tranny.

My 2010 70,000km car has this problem since yesterday. That was after leaving it at car wash, they call to tell me it's not starting. Display message said to press brakes while starting, which I did, yeah I pressed it very hard.
After online look up and phone call with Toyota Lanka, I myself checked brake light switch in pedal, since brake lights were not turning on but switch was fine.
Then Toyota Lanka engineer came to location and started by long pressing start. Replaced brake light fuse, which was burned.
But still this light is on. I think it could be due to hard pressing of brake. But now car works fine apart from the brake hold function. Will display reset work, then how to do that
Got a 2010 Prius with about 61000 miles on it. Starting yesterday the check engine light stay on all the time (As soon as I started the car). I tried open and tighten the gas cap but no luck and check engine light still stay on all the time. What could be the problem? Will any ODB scanner able to diagnose the check engine light code or need a specific one?
View 6 RepliesPrius 2010 UK model, rattle noise coming from the dashboard between the speaker grill and the A shaped trim/glass window driver side (UK model) every time I accelerate, is there constantly all the time, is driving crazy, 9 hours a day in the car most of the week and this bloody annoying rattle. Can't stand it anymore.
View 5 Replies2nd time I've had this problem. With the car turned on "ready light" on, the car will not shift into D. It just stays in park, and yes my foot is on the brake. I've tried to reset by turning the car off, turning it on again and shifting into D, still no luck. By retrying this over and over it finally goes into Drive and away I go. I've had the car for 3months and 5k miles, and this has only happened twice.
The second time occurred when I was stopped by a flagman at a road construction site. Instead of shutting down, I just pushed the park button. The lights were on, the radio playing and my garmin was plugged in and the AC was on, would the high load have caused the problem? When I pulled the plug on the Garmin, the car went into gear on the next try, but I don't know if there is a cause and effect. I finally got it going after about 25 cars had to go around me and the last car was passing me when it finally went into D.
I have 2004 Toyota Prius 110k miles on it. New auxilary battery on it. VSC, Brake and Red triangle lights are on. The car wont start. System comes on, but ready light doesn't not appear.
If I discoonect the battery for a minute and connect it back, I am able to start and drive it. After a minute VSC, brake light comes on. I still can drive the car and it drives perfect. As soon as I shut it off, I won't be able to restart it again. I have to disconnect the battery for a minute to get it started. Inverter pump seems to be working fine.
I got the codes with the paper clip VSC 43, Brake 36. After resetting the codes, I drove the car and now it throws VSC 51 code.
Check engine light is not on. When I checked with OBD scanner, it does not show any codes. When we checked with shop's scanner, there was a code smth "LOST COMMUNICATION WITH HYBRID..."
I replaced the HV Control ECU on my 2007 Prius, because my coding scan read POA1D. Now the lights on the dash all light up, but the Ready light does not come on.
View 1 RepliesI recently changed out my 2006 blown gas engine with a great running 2008 engine and also replaced the hybrid battery. After connecting everything, my car won't start. All the lights come on except for the ready light. Does something have to be reset?
View 13 RepliesMy Prius IV with about 10K miles started to emit a high-pitched electrical humming sound under the hood when it was in Ready mode. It did not have this sound before. I opened the hood and found the sound was coming from somewhere around/under the engine area. I want to know if this is normal on Gen 3 Prius? I have seen post on the same noise in Gen 2 Prius but the posts (thread) stopped without a resolution.

Will not let me parallel park or reverse park now. I tried to reset the settings but maybe I don't know how to "save" settings.
View 5 RepliesI have a 2005 prius with 38,160 miles I started it and shut it off and then tried restarting and now does not want to start. The ready light does not go on and the start button becomes orange.
I checked my 12 volt and it gave a reading of 12.2 volts. These are the engine codes that come up:
