Prius 2010 UK model, rattle noise coming from the dashboard between the speaker grill and the A shaped trim/glass window driver side (UK model) every time I accelerate, is there constantly all the time, is driving crazy, 9 hours a day in the car most of the week and this bloody annoying rattle. Can't stand it anymore.
View 5 RepliesWhen I accelerate I notice a rattling noise almost each time. Is it bad gas? I have been getting gas (90-95% of the time) at the same gas station for years, including the whole time with my 2011.
Also for the first time today i got an error message on my screen for the radio that says something to the effect that the USB has too much power consumption and will not run.
When I powered off and powered back on after lunch it started working again. I never had either problem with my 2011.

View 7 RepliesSo I took my R into the dealership to have them look into the rattle/vibration noise that happens when I accelerate. They say that they looked into it and found nothing that was loose and said everything was fine.
When I first got the car I was showing it off to a friend of mine, letting him hear the intoxicating exhaust note, he was impressed, then I rev it and he was like hmmm what was that? Needless to say I was a bit embarrassed.
At this point I don't like getting on the gas in fear that someone will hear this noise and I cringe when I hear it. It's unacceptable for a $30k+ car. The noise does seem to get better once the car is heated up, but that's only after quite a bit of driving and its still there, just not as bad.
I'm taking the car in again tomorrow for something unrelated and I'm going to make sure I give it a few revs so they can hear what I'm hearing.
I got my TSB done for dashboard rattling for the passenger side of vehicle but my rattle still exist, especially when I turn on my JBL system.
So my question is could the problem be my speakers as well? I never like bass or treble so they are on zero when I play my favorite songs, but that rattling on the speakers area in dashboard is driving me nuts, I turn off the music and that rattle sound will cease to exist.
Just a couple weeks ago this annoying rattle started in passenger dashboard.
View 4 RepliesI have a 2004 Camry with what is the most odd noise I've ever heard. The noise sounds like a cross between water trickling over stones and maybe bearings rolling around in a tube, or maybe someone crinkling paper. It sounds like it is coming from inside the dashboard, or maybe just beyond the firewall in the engine compartment.
It tends to occur when the vehicle is stopped and is just starting to accelerate from a stop. It can also occur when the vehicle is breaking to a stop. It doesn't sound like break pads (not grinding metal-on-metal sound).
At a stop, I can shift the automatic transmission into neutral and rev the engine a little and the sound will occur, but it doesn't seem to be dependent on any specific RPM nor does it co-vary based on increases or decreases in RPM. Basically, when I rev, the sound simply occurs. It is of variable intensity and duration, and is very random in peak of volume and sequence of noises. If I didn't know better, I'd swear there was a chipmunk under the hood (I looked, there isn't.)
I drive the car daily, but my regular trip to work is very short so the car runs for no more than 5 minutes each morning. In a five minute drive, with 4 stop sign/lights, the noise will occur basically every time I accelerate.
I've noticed when going up hills where the engine is working, there is a rattle/vibration that seems to be coming from the passenger side dashboard/glovebox area. I've opened both glove boxes and made sure nothing was in it and the rattle still continues. It sounds like there is a screw loose in the plastic inside the dash that is vibrating.

View 12 RepliesI recently traded my 2012 GS 350 for a 2015 GX 460. It's more my type of vehicle, and I am loving it except for a noise under the dashboard that seems to be somewhere behind the instrument cluster.
The noise is more of a ticking sound, and if I had to guess, it seems to be a wiring harness in that mesh-type wrapping that's moving around. I hear mostly over bumps in the road, but it also shifts when I accelerate from a stop. Unfortunately, the area where I'm hearing this is inaccessible without removing the dash.

I get a whooshing noise coming from under the dashboard on the drivers side of the car every time I accelerate from a standstill. It sound like water flushing down a pipe. All the fluids are ok & I have zero leaks. Before I take the car to a repair shop & get a bad deal. The car has 58,000 miles on it.
View 15 RepliesSo when I bought one of my cars used I noticed a plastic rattle coming from the dash. Removed the dash sprayed some silicone and sealed with rubber and that fixed it. maybe 2 weeks ago another very annoying rattle developed which you can hear when the ICE start and you accelerate...and now you can hear it even when you are cruising on the hwy. I thought it is from the dash again but you will see that even without the dash it is still there.
View 13 RepliesAfter 56k miles on my 2010 Type II, I suddenly started hearing a constants rattle sound that seemed to be located in the dashboard directly in front of the steering wheel. I got onto Prius Chat and researched every possible resolution, but not seemed to work UNTIL.... I saw someone had jokingly suggested squirting some WD-40 between the windshield and the windshield cowl. So, having nothing to loose, I gave that a try and... the rattle is gone! I can't explain it, but all I can tell you is my car is quiet again.
View 11 RepliesHit a long 4x4 post on the freeway and bent a front rim. Was able to miss most of it but hit it with the right tires. It didn't hit anything under the car that I can tell. Got a new rim and moved the TPMS and tire to the new rim. Back wheel looks ok. Still have a low pressure light. TPMS was lit when I had the bad wheel out of the car but is now out.
Have previously had trouble with another wheel giving a warning when it was only a pound or two low. Checked all the wheels and added a few pounds to each and still have the light.
How do I troubleshoot the TPMS? How long should the batteries last - is this just normal life of the sensors? It's a 2009 model.
Also have some noise and rattles I didn't have before. Not when going straight but when turning and accelerating at the same time. Hoping its just some shields and nothing too serious... I looked and didn't see anything obviously loose so I need to dig into it a bit more.
Over the last 6 months I've developed a rattle in the rear (possibly right side) that has become louder over time. During the summer months I crawled underneath to see if anything was loose but nothing obvious. Since it's winter now with several inches of snow I don't have any desire to go underneath again.
I'll assume it's not safety related but I did check the exhaust and or any shield and all seems tight.
My prius 2008 94k miles makes this strange noise from time to time, randomly. What it might be?
View 11 RepliesI own a 2012 Camry Hybrid XLE, but I'd imagine this issue could exist w/ any trim. Hear a slight crinkle/rattle from time to time coming from your headliner area? At times it almost sounds like someone padded your headliner with a plastic grocery bag.
I usually heard it on bumpy roads. I went through a nightmare with my dealer where they had my car for about 40 days trying to figure out the cause. They even replaced the headliner! (they did a lousy job too, w/ lots of oil smudges and scratches on my plastics)
Discovered the real cause of rattle. The sound actually comes from where the sun visor meets the headliner. The white plastic socket (pictured) where the sun visor plugs in has some wiggle room. When the car vibrates (be it from a bumpy road or what have you) it can slide against the interior cut out of the headliner. This makes an obnoxious crinkling sound.
At the moment I'm driving around with no sun visor on the passenger side-- and I also have no rattle (occasionally I might hear it from the driver side sun visor, but it's minor). I'll probably add some foam up there to add some more tension to alleviate the issue completely. Even just re-seating the sun visor and ensuring the screws are tight would probably have significant impact...
Have a super annoying rattle from the top vent on top of the dashboard in the middle. I can put my wifes handbag on it in order to stop it. Told the dealer about it the past 4 visits and get different answers every time but no fixes. Passed 15k miles and now they say rattle warranty is over so how hard is it to take the vent off so i can doctor some foam tape or something in there?
View 9 RepliesMy dashboard has a rattle (surprise!) in the instrument cluster and today I have located the source of the noise. It comes from the right side of the hood piece over the dials. The right corner of the front edge of that hood rattles against the rest of the console. It can be fixed by applying a little piece of the electric tape or a piece of foam on the inside of that hood. I do want to go to the dealer and I'd prefer to fix such a minor problem by myself.
Looking for a schematic on how to take the dashboard apart? I wonder, why this dashboard hood consists of 2 pieces made of hard plastic attached without any padding? Of course, they will rattle!
2005 Camry SE 4cyl 5 speed stick. 126k miles bought new well maintained with a minimum of problems. In the last couple of weeks a funny type of rattle has developed in the right dash area. Sounds like a snapping noise when I go over certain types of road imperfections. Almost like a loose small light bulb socket inside hitting something. Tried it with the glove box open no change. Can't see anything wrong behind the glove box where you change the cabin filter. No recent change in any control operation or electrical issues concerning the dash area.
