Is this a bug? I hit the start button, everything comes on, put on my seatbelt, etc... then I shift into reverse (out of park) and it says I must start in park. But it's already started. I then have to hit the start button to turn everything off, then hit it again to turn anything on. How to avoid this?
View 12 RepliesI bought a 2010 V8 Explorer on Monday and aside from the apparent "known issue" with the hard 2-1 shift (which I'm trying to get it to "unlearn" by driving differently), it's a really nice truck.
When I shift into reverse it says "Park Aid On/Off" in the display, and sure enough, it beeps when I get close to something. That said, there aren't the normal "dots" in the bumper that I normally associate with backup sensors.
Everything works just fine with it, I just am a guy who likes to know how things work and I don't see anything on the outside that would indicate it's a parking sensor.
Everything was working fine until I started messing with camera settings in the service menu today . Now when I shift into reverse, it says "system not ready". Will not let me parallel park or reverse park now. I tried to reset the settings but maybe I don't know how to "save" settings.
View 5 RepliesAfter last maintenance at dealer where I got my Prius. I get two or three times of "Key not Detected" message per week when I try to start the car. I have to push start button several times for the car to detect key and start up properly. However, I don't have issue to unlock door by placing hand on the sensor and enter driver's seat. Where to start? I thought it was battery issue, but that wouldn't explain why I don't have any issue unlocking the driver door by placing hand on the sensor, which I always do before I push the start button.

View 3 RepliesMy daughters boyfriend has a 97 Acura CL, 4 cylinder. He stopped by yesterday and now his car won't start. None of the accessories work, it will not shift out of park, the battery is fine, the headlights etc work fine. We checked the fuses and fusible links, replaced the ignition and cylinder, but the car still won't start. I am not sure what to try next, I did use the key to put the car into neutral but it didn't work. I need to get this kid out of my house, he lives 30 miles away!

View 1 RepliesToday after running several errands, I stopped by the local CarWash to rinse the car. Same as always, parking brake off, shift into neutral and away we go. Half way threw she starts beeping, I see the yellow triangle and to the right a boxed message "LOW TRACTION BATTERY SHIFT INTO P POSITION". There was a sudden rush of anxiety because I could not shift while being conveyor-ed threw the wash. As soon as I was pushed out and the light turned green, I shifted into drive to exit. The warning and box cleared instantly.
I pulled into parking, shifted into P, and noticed the battery indicator had only 1 bar. Did a quick walk around of the car and got back on the road thinking, head directly the Dealership. Before I got to the freeway I was back up 4 bars and climbing. Continued on the freeway and within 2 exits all looked normal. As it is Saturday and the Dealership was 1 hour from closing, I proceeded home. Later we went to dinner and an event, then came home. All is still normal. Owners Manual only states to follow the command on page 515.
I know this is a long story and was intentional to starve off multiple questions. The only thing I can think is that the air conditioner, radio and headlights were on prior to, while waiting my turn for wash (park-roll-park-roll...) and up to the point of the warning (tuned off all at that point) while in the tunnel. However this is normal for me. Will monitor the battery indicator more closely for a while. I'm sure this event latched in a computer somewhere, so will run by the Dealer if anything else acts up again. A/C and radio and lights are turned off now while in "neutral", for whatever reason. The car is a 2010 II and only 27600 miles. Was not a pleasant feeling.
'17 Ultima has the "New Stero" syndrome... 300km and when I got home today turning if off resulted in ACC instead with message to Shift to P.
Still at the dealer. Can't figure it out... Everything, well almost everything I guess, says it's in Park. Swapping parts is next.
At least it was still doing it when I got to the dealer. I just hope they find the offending component and that it doesn't turn into a 'self-healer', waiting to do it again. Dealer says first time they have encountered it...
I only notice this when I back the car from the garage and come to a stop before going forward. It is a very metallic clunk. It sounds like its coming from the rear passenger side but I am. not 100% certain. It happens when I actually stop before switching to drive.
It is a 2013 Two. 30,000 miles on it.
I have a 2004 RX with 82,000 miles, well maintained. Lately the engine will start but the warning lights won't go off and the gear shift won't move out of park. I have to keep turning the vehicle on and off until the gear shift will go in reverse.
It doesn't happen every day but off and on over the past month.I've had numerous brake light switches replaced which could maybe be the lights, would that affect the transmission too?
I have an 04 ford 150 super crew truck with 4 speed trans and 3.4 engine. The gear shift sometimes won't start in park and has slack in movement . Starts in neutral but has some slack in it. I can't determine where the slack is but sure it relates tt no park start. Where the safety switch is and is this a common problem with this truck?
View 3 RepliesI have a 1995 Ford Crown Victoria. If I start the car in Park, it will not shift. IF I start the car in neutral, I can shift gears with no problems. In conjunction, the turn signals work well, but I have no brake lights.
View 1 RepliesTHE PROBLEM: Our Prius 12V aux battery died after my wife left the light on inside the car and instead of buying a new battery, we decided to try jump starting it. My wife tried jump starting our Prius with the neighbors pickup truck and even though I wasn't physically there to witness it, I'm pretty sure that the polarity got swapped during the process. It wouldn't start afterwards, so we went out and bought a brand new 12V aux battery. The prius still will not start. No electric components seem to work (door locks, back brake lights, windows, radio don't work). The dash only shows the orange exclamation mark and the check engine light, nothing else. The power button blinks orange, never goes green.
TROUBLESHOOTING that I've tried:
1. Checked the big 120A fuse right on the positive + terminal. Visibly looked good.
2. Checked all the fuses by the drivers left knee. All tested good with resistance + visible checks.
3. Checked all the fuses in the fusebox under the hood. All tested good EXCEPT the big relay integration fuse under the white plastic cover. It was definitely blown.
4. Replaced the relay integration, still no luck, same exact symptoms.
5. Tried force starting the car in emergency mode by holding the brake and power button down for 15+ secs. The engine starts, but the dash is still dead showing just the check engine light and orange exclamation mark. Can not shift gears or drive.
6. Tried slow charging the NEW battery to get the voltage higher, still no luck. It's testing about 13V with everything off.
I have a 2009 Santa Fe and last night, out of the blue, the engine wouldn't start. The shift lever was stuck in park and the brake pedal was very stiff and wouldn't move much. I popped the cap off the shift lock and moved it to neutral at which time the car started without a problem. I could drive but shifting was difficult and the lever didn't really click into a gear. I noticed that when shifting gears. the indicator on the dash would change from N to D and to R in reverse but when I moved up to park, the indicator went blank and the lever locked up again and had be released manually. I also noticed when I got home, since my driveway is a slope, that when the car seemed to be in park is rolled down the driveway, so I had to engage the emergency brake.
View 13 RepliesMy Pris 2010 would not start this morning. My wife tried to start the car this morning and it would not start. All the symbols on the display light up and would not go. She then tries to turn off the car, but the Triangle symbol with the exclamation mark within it lights up. The Start button light is red and the Park button flashes green. Added to that is the constant beep that you hear when you try to close the door with the keys in the car. I cannot even turn the steering wheel. I had to get it towed to the Toyota dealer and am was told that i would hear back tomorrow.
View 19 RepliesMy Daughter owns a 2000 Camry. It has a very annoying habit of not starting when it is warm (think driving to the gas station, turning the car off to fill it and then it doesn't start again). We have tried new solenoids, a new starter and several other tweaks but nothing seems to fix the problem. Recently she discovered if she jiggles the gear shift lever (it's an automatic) it will start. So, obviously she gear shift lever is not finding Park or Neutral so that it can be in position to start. She has experimented with this concept and it appears to be the only thing that consistently solves the starting issue. What would we have to fix in the gear shift lever, or elsewhere, to fix this problem?
View 5 RepliesI am planning to buy this 2012 Camry LE (38k), automatic, I am on the test run and realized that the car's shifting from park to reverse is harder than shifting from reverse to drive. What I mean is, it is really hard to move the selector from Park to Reverse.

When I finally got it stopped, I tried to shift it, and it wouldn't shift to any spot. Then it became stuck in between Park and Reverse. I can't move the gear shift.
View 1 RepliesIt is a 2003 xlt 4.6 auto. sometimes, but not too often, when you shift from park to reverse nothing happens, no go backward.... even if you mash the go pedal. if you shift to drive then back to reverse it works fine. Not predictable enough to show it in failed mode to the mechanic. Is this a common simple fix? would this issue throw a code? (No blinking or idiot lights on dash when it does this) is there something I can tell the tranny guys to look at since it is on my dime? Somthing like a shift solenoid or something...
