I am having problems with squeaks and other noises from the dash. The dealer sprayed some foam on the dash board (underside of it) to quiet the noises. It didn't work. The repair order says he sprayed the air bag cover. I'm not an expert on air bags but would this effect the function of the bag?
View 7 RepliesIve been hearing some noises coming from the right side of the dashboard when I turn the heat on. Then last night, smoke/steam started coming through the vents with a strong odor. Popped the hood and there is some smoke coming from behind the engine as well. Sounds like the heater core but why the smoke from the engine? Temperature gauge reads as normal and I have no lights on the dash.

View 5 RepliesI noticed today that my prius with less than 5000 miles has a strange wheel squeek. It almost sounds like a warped rotor but I was really careful breaking it in. I cannot hear it at all with the windows up but with them down I hear it whenever the car is moving even when I am not braking. The strange thing is when I am moving very slowly the squeek is longer. It lasts 2-3 seconds between intervals when I am going like 1mph ot less and gradually the intervals shorten as I go faster. I could still detect it at like 30mph.
View 2 RepliesYesterday I took my beloved 2002 Passat wagon into the dealership for it's 25K maintenance. At each of my previous two visits for oil changes I had spent a little too much time admiring how sharp the Touareg was.
So far, with only a drive home from the dealership and a drive into work after dropping a very excited boy off at school, I love it. There is a whirring noise from what I hope are the new tires and the transmission is a little more "viscous" than I'm used to from the Passat-it too whirs a lot on slow accelerations and then whirs and shifts with "resistance" as I coast/decelerate.
It seems the all-wheel-drive sensation will take some getting used to although I test drove a 4-Motion once and didn't get the same impression. Other than that-seems great. Solid as a rock so far over rough roads-my Passat had developed some minor dashboard squeaks almost immediately and tended to pitch and roll over rough roads. The V6 definitely puts out some decibels on even mild accelerations but so did my 1.8T in the Passat. For the time being,
I bout a 2010 AWD LS460 in July and immediately noticed noises coming from the rear and front. The rear was a loud thud going over certain bumps and the front is making rattling noises. I lowered the windows and went down a rather bumpy block and the car sound like the bottom is falling out. I took it to the dealer and they had it for 2 and 1/2 weeks waiting on the rear air shocks to come in. They gave it back to me and did not address the front. Now the service manager is going away for two weeks and wants me to come back if I still feel the need to have the from done. The master tech stated the front left suspension needs replacing. I feel they are trying to drag this out so they dont have to pay for the repairs. The car has 80K and was bought from Bay Ridge Lexus and is not under CPO.

Nobody listening seems to think it's bottom end, and I did check valve clearances and found them all to be on the tight side (ten within tolerance on the tight side, and six just-out-of-tolerance tight).
I also saw what looked like less oil on the #4 exhaust cam lobes and I'm wondering if there could be some kind of oil delivery issue. (#4 exhaust was also an area that had stuck out to the stethoscope before I took the cover off).
There's a dark brown varnish pretty much everywhere on the top deck (photo in other thread), pretty much as a thin coat that doesn't rub off easily, but I saw a few flat flakes coming off here and there, and wonder if that stuff might occlude an oil passage.
I've picked up a product called Auto-RX that I've never used before. From reading its patent I think there at least might be something to it (an ester of a fatty acid that's claimed to dissolve varnish and sludge without the other effects of more conventional solvents).
2006 Prius has a strange intermittent tweeting sound that appears to come from the front drivers side, maybe in the console. Mechanic says it is in the tires. But I just can't go with that. The sound almost is like a cricket...
View 3 RepliesI bought a Prius persona in 2013 brand-new and in about a year or year and a half later start slowly coming noises from interior plastics and now it's a 2 1/2-year-old car and I have noises from every single plastic that's in the interior. $29,000 car and two years 2 1/2 years after it's just annoying and embarrassing for Toyota. Dealership is refusing to do anything because I'm over 36,000 miles and the warranty that I bought originally with the car is refusing to do anything too. And the dealership wants to charge me per hour just to start and it could take up to the whole day or two days or half a day and it could cost me thousands of dollars on a $29,000 car is two years old, unbelievable.
View 5 RepliesI've had my Prius v (lowercase v) for about 6 months now and just took it in for its 5000 mi service. There were no problems but shortly after I got it back I started noticing a really bad odor coming from somewhere in the car. Its not a moldy or mildew smell that's coming from the HVAC. I sniffed all the mats and it's not that either. From what I can tell, the smell seems to be coming from the plastics on the dashboard area, but it's really hard to tell for sure. I tried covering it up with febreeze, but the odor is too strong. It's not the smell of a rotting animal either.
Again, not from the seats, floormats, or AC system. Seems to be coming from the dashboard and/or center console area where all the buttons are. I have a baby and a carseat, but I don't feed the baby in the car, and after sniffing the carseat and rear seat area, I can confirm the smell isn't coming from there.
I'm about to take a multi-day cross-country road trip in my Prius v and would love to fix the source of the smell before I go. It's not that noticeable with the windows rolled down, but when you sit in the car for the first time in the morning, the smell is definitely noticeable, and it's not good.
Dashboard rattle/squeak noises in the 2013 TOYOTA COROLLA ZRE182R ASCENT SPORT S-CVT. I purchased this car in Feb 2013, brand new.
A rattle began to develop around the dashboard area. At first, it sounded like a rattle on the left side of the dash near the aircon vent. It took two visits to the dealership service center to repair the rattle.
Within a week of the second visit, the rattle came back - this time in two places, and much worse. The second rattle noise appears to be coming from behind the wheel. Hard to describe the sound, it's more like a high pitched squeaking rather than a dull rattle.
To date I have had wires/brackets either replaced and/or tightened, and also foam applied in numerous places. Still, the rattle persists.
Just got a used 2012 Prius TWO, NOT II, yesterday, I noticed that the battery on the dashboard was down to two bars when I was driving at one point. What happens if it goes to zero bars?

View 4 RepliesI have some issues with my 2009 F250 5.4L. Recently I got in the car and went to start it. It started fine but I was getting beeping noises from the dashboard. 5 beeps with 1 second between each beep for 3 times. I shut the car off and go to start it again and engine does not crank at all. I get the relay click every time i try to start it but engine doesn't want to crank. Then the beeps come back.
About a month ago I had a reputable shop here in town install a compustar remote starter. It hasn't given me any troubles at all but I'm thinking this might be the culprit behind the issue. I towed the car down to the place where they installed my remote starter and they got the car started. They said I had blown fuses and the remote starter is not behind the problem I'm having. So I picked the car up and it was all good for 4 days and last night I get in the car and same issue.
I scanned the car and came back with these codes
U2472 Ignition State Unexpected
B1868 Lamp Air Bag Warning Indicator Circuit Failure
U2023 Vehicle communication bus error
I tried resetting the codes and tried to start the car (it didn't) and another code popped up
B1555 for ignition run/start circuit failure.
Whats going on? Problem?
After oil change today, I see this blinking red sigh. I can't find this sign in the manual. Toyota is closed today.

View 12 RepliesI got my TSB done for dashboard rattling for the passenger side of vehicle but my rattle still exist, especially when I turn on my JBL system.
So my question is could the problem be my speakers as well? I never like bass or treble so they are on zero when I play my favorite songs, but that rattling on the speakers area in dashboard is driving me nuts, I turn off the music and that rattle sound will cease to exist.
My Passat seems happy enough. Been over a year since I've had a problem. Not even a CEL. My dilema is do I take this into the dealer for warranty work or best leave well enough alone.
For kicks I did a Vag COm scan the other day (last one was a year ago and I cleared the codes ) and I have a handful of intermittent codes again. Mostly the same. Cleared again, rescanned in a week and only one came back. They are mostly Central Convenience / HVAC codes. The one that came back was one of 2 codes for positioning motors in the HVAC.
I know digging into dash stuff isn't fun. Creaks and squeaks and demons come out if the the tech isn't careful in what he does. I'm not noting any issues at all.
