As I had two extra keys from my last Prius (totaled 2010), I took them to the dealer to get them programmed - they spent gobs of time, but could not get them to register. They verified they were the correct keys - but in the end, could not get through to Toyota's higher level tech support to troubleshoot it....
They said they'd try again on my first service. Why there would be an issue programming extra keys???
Got the following problem with my 2004:
1. Unlocked ny car this morning by use of my remote key and the alarm went off.
2. Got the alarm turned off by locking and unlocking my car several times by use of my remote keys
3. Put the car in reverse and took out of the garage. Parked the car and put the gear stick in P position. The knob on the left side of the gear stick remained in the "in" position where one usually can move the gear stick up and down between the gears.
4. However, I was not able to move the gear stick, and the main display said something in German like "Call the workshop".
5. Locked the car bye use of one of my three remote keys.
6. Later, after trying to solve the gear stick problem by moving the knob and the gear stick in several ways I was not able to lock the car with any of my remote keys. No messages were displayed.
7. I was only able to manually lock the door where I used my key.
The knob on the gear stick is showing scratch marks so someone has tried to do something to it earlier. I have owned the car since easter this year and has not experienced this problem earlier.
The battery on the left side of the car is new, and the batteries were charged for 12 hours two weeks ago. The car has not been driven much since easter, and has only been taken in and out of the garage four times during the last three weeks without being driven.
I left my keys in the car last night and then my husband locked the car with his smart key. Is there a way to get my keys out without his key right now?

View 11 RepliesThe car has been parked for a few months and i get into it and the navi reads unable to read disk? So I eject it and its perfectly clean. I give it a wipe down just for good measure and slap it back in. after a few minutes and some hesitations it works fine.. Then it happens again like 20 miles away, just goes black and says unable to read disk then comes back on again by itself.. Would a newer updated disk work? I have 90k on it and this is the first time I've ever removed the nav disk, could the lens be dirty..
View 4 RepliesSince I purchased my 2010 I've never been able to use EV mode. I know it's just a novelty, and actually hurts gas mileage (due to the need to convert gas to electricity to recharge the battery), so I haven't lost sleep over this, but it is somewhat annoying.
Is there a known problem with 2010s and EV mode? No matter how gently I apply the accelerator it pops out into ECO mode again almost immediately with a message like "insufficient charge" (or something like that), even if the battery is near full charge (I've never seen it fully charged).
I have a 2010 Prius and have been driving several for the past 7 years.Yesterday, I was driving on the Expressway at 60 mph and all of a sudden I was momentarily stuck at 60 as if I was in Cruise control which I wasn't. Gradually, I was unable to accelerate when I pressed down on the pedal, lost speed and cruised over to the side of the road as if I was out of gas which I wasn't. I shut the engine off, waited a minute and started up again. I continued on my journey without a problem. When I reached my destination I shut down the engine and re started 4 hrs later and drove home 120 miles without a problem. What is the cause of this and is it still under warranty. I have 50,000 miles on the vehicle. May I add, this is the first problem ever encountered.

Now I realize I can disable the electronic lift, but it's a shame not to be able to use this feature. I'm sure others have had this problem, but I've googled with no success.

View 7 RepliesI've been noticing that my battery is almost always fully charged or close to it. Then I noticed that when I 'should' be getting assist from the MG2 and not charging the battery, i'm not getting the assist I would assume I should be getting. Seems like most of the energy is getting put back into the battery instead of assisting the MG2
Notice how the arrow is going to the battery from the MG2 (ELECMOTR) and not vice versa. This is majority of the time. Getting less of this also. hince - MPGs are down also.
In my generation 2 and 3 Prius, the Nav allowed me to program several destinations along the route of a trip. I can't figure out how to do the same thing with the Prius V. Does the new Nav in the V not have this capability?

When I use my brakes at low speeds under 15 mph, there is a bit of extra brake travel before they engage properly ...
The 6 button powercode remote start and alarm will shut the engine down if you open the door after remote starting.
Here is the fix, I found it somewhere else. It's nice doing stuff yourself that the dealer tells you it cant be done.
open the drivers door
turn on the ignition
hold the program/override button for 15 sec (horn will chirp 3 times)
press the override button again horn will chirp 4 times
" " horn will chirp 5 times
" " horn will chirp 6 times
" " horn will chirp 7 times
" " horn will chirp 8 times letting you know you are in option bank 5.
press the panic button on the fob horn will chirp once
" " chirp twice
" " chirp three times
" " chirp 4 times
" " chirp 5 times
press the lock button on the fob once...your led alarm light will now be off.
Turn off the ignition
you are done
Enjoy
Activate the remote start open the door(smile) just don't press the brake before you put key in ignition and turn.
Since I cannot program addresses into the NAV system while my wife drives the car (or vice versa), I tried to just program them in while the car was parked on the driveway. However the car shuts itself off after about 2 minutes regardless of what I'm doing. I figure if I put the car into drive it would work, but I was charging at the time so the car wouldn't let me.

View 7 RepliesWhen I look under the hood of the Elantra and then try to close it, it seems to not want to close. I usually have to lift the hood up and let it fall which kind of worries me will break something...
or I have to put what seems to be a lot of pressure on the hood with my arms and hands to close it...to the point where I feel the metal of the hood bend slightly inwards and then pop out to its regular shape.
My 2007 Prius wont unlock with clicking the unlock on my keys, or manually unlocking (it turns but does not unlock). I just took it for service 2 weeks ago and its been fine. I drove it as recently as yesterday no problem. I have both sets of keys. it just seems completely unresponsive.

View 1 RepliesPrius sat in my garage for about a month without moving went to start it up had 0 power, the unlock button on the keys wouldn't even open the doors. So I tried to jump start the car which would kind of work. The car would turn on for a few secs maybe 5 sec then turn right back off. So had the battery tested and came back as bad battery.
