I figured out how to get the text message function to work on my head unit. It was a setting on my iPhone, under Bluetooth it was the "show notifications". Then all of a sudden bam any texts I get while in the car pop up and the HU will read them aloud, also there are a bunch of quick responses.
View 16 RepliesIs there a way to disable the beep and text received message on the headunit? You have two choices, Read or Cancel. When I'm driving, I really don't care about texts at all. I don't want whatever is on the stereo obscured.

I noticed when I have my iphone 4s plugged in to the USB and my BT is on I don't get the notification noise that i always do when I get a text message. When I get a phone call it rings on the car speakers since I have it connected to my BT but not the text message. I commute to work over an hour each way and i hate to keep checking my phone to see if I got a text since it's not going off when I get a message.

View 7 RepliesI have a 2012 PIP (assume same technology as non-PIP Gen 3s?). I paired my Galaxy S3 phone with the PIP and when my phone receives a text message, I get the prompt on the Prius' screen to read the text message to me. I then paired my wife's iPhone4 to the car, but when she gets a text, there's no prompt on the Prius' screen to read the text. Where should I start troubleshooting this?
View 2 RepliesMy JBL head unit keeps dying. My 2011 Prius Three, not III, is currently on its 3rd head unit, and this one is dying also. About once per year, the head unit starts displaying gibberish on the LCD, often with horizontal lines marching upwards. As the problem persists, the display gets worse. Finally, the buttons start malfunctioning. Pressing the power button might eject a CD, pushing a radio preset button might switch to CD, etc.
View 5 Replies I've got a 2007 with Nav and was thinking of replacing the head unit with an Alpine INE-W940 or something similar/better. I spoke to Crutchfield, and they told me that this install would make my MFD unusable, and I'd have a blank screen. I am not certain if the tech meant that it would be useless for navigation or radio/cd control, but still function for other uses like battery monitoring and consumption.
Even assuming that it would still function for car information, etc., I was wondering, using perhaps Lockpick 3 to mirror the display of an aftermarket head unit/nav system to the MFD. I'm thinking this would be a really useful hack.
I installed a alpine power amp - keeping the factory head unit. It sounds much better but I lost the illumination of the buttons on the head unit. I used the Metra connectors and matching the colors and adding wires to connect with the amplifier. There is 12 volts going to the head unit on the orange and white connector but no illumination of the buttons.
2012 Prius v, no JBL, with nav.
Within the week the head unit has started to glitch out. Doesn't seem to be any real issues with any usability- at least yet. I have a 2011 Prius II.
View 1 Repliesvery faint but it's there. Kenwood Exelon head unit and 5chan amp. Noise varies a bit with throttle. Equipment is all decent / good quality. Is this something I have to live with as a hybrid owner? I have a short ground from the amp in the spare well area at the factory battery ground point. Have a dead silent amplified system in these cars?
View 3 RepliesI have a 2010 Prius II that I am attempting to install a Pioneer AVIC-5000NEX head unit into. After following the instructions in the sticky thread the head unit itself works perfectly, but the car beeps constantly when turned off, and if I exit the vehicle the screen says key not detected. If I remove the Pioneer head unit and plug in the factory everything works great, but anytime I have the factory head unit removed I can not leave the vehicle without the key not detected error.
View 1 RepliesI do not have the Nav/JBL head unit, just the basic Gen III Prius II head unit, and would like to disable the speed sensor lock capability of the unit, like others have done with the Nav units.
If there is a plug-n-play defeat/bypass kit for this HU? There are some "fuel efficiency" windows in the HU, would I loose any of these functions/displays with such a bypass?
I'd like to upgrade the head unit to something which sounds a little better and offers better A2DP streaming (the Australian Prius I-Tech doesn't offer stock Bluetooth streaming and the GROM Audio unit I am currently using to achieve this is temperamental). Everything I read suggests that you loose IPA if you do this upgrade, and while I know most people probably won't miss the feature, I personally find it very useful.
View 3 RepliesI have a 2012 Prius Two, a monitor with Bluetooth capabilities. I use the Samsung Galaxy Note II with Sprint on Jellybean Android.
I have tried numerous music players on Android and here's what happens:
Music plays fine. Bluetooth paired perfectly. Randomly the entire head unit will reboot. There is no pattern. It happens after about a minute and a half. It shuts off and comes back on.
I do not have an AUX in unfortunately. When I tried my wife's HTC EVO 4G on Android It worked perfectly. Only Bluetooth.
I tried to install entune. No dice. it says that ny VIN is invalid.
I have a 2005 Prius and need a new navigation unit and I found a place I can order online, however I did something not so bright I ordered for a 2007 Prius. I need to know if a 2007 navigation unit will work in a 2005?
View 2 RepliesI have a nexus 6 with the 7" Entune with Nav but non jbl unit. Everything works fine except everything comes up unknown for receiving text messages. I played around with the settings a quite a bit. Rebooted the head unit countless times using the hold down the power button for 5 seconds trick. Totally uninstalled Entunes and reinstalled and reconnected it to the phone again and did all the updates with no luck. It does read the messages and the phone displays the contacts from the phone fine but the contacts on the SMS aren't syncing together. Since they are unknown, I am unable to do any of the quick messages thru the entune system.
View 4 RepliesMy prius 2008 I have been using for past 8 months or so was running fine with no issues until recently its audio system started malfunctioning. The power/disc/am/scan or volume tab won't function but it can be operated through the button on steering wheel .
After restarting car two times it started working.
I pretty much have my car all setup now, but one thing that I have not been able to do is receive text messages to where it will display on the in dash screen. I have the Solar Package / Premium Navigation system. As for my Phone, I have the Galaxy Note II with Android 4.1.2 (Jelly Bean) and AT&T. My phone still receives texts while connected to the car's blue tooth, and I can view on my phone, but I'm unable to view on the in dash display, which means I can't send out the quick replies either. Is there something in the phone that I need to set up?
View 7 RepliesI just bought an 2008 Prius and I cannot for the life of me get the AUX function to work on my stereo. I have my iPhone plugged into the jack inside the center counsel, hit the DISC/AUX key and nothing. The cable between the iphone and jack is good, because I tried it on other devices and it works great. When I have a disc inserted into the stereo the DISC/AUX button works when switching from AM/FM radio to Disc and the cd plays. But when I have the cd removed from the stereo and hitting the DISC/AUX switch it does nothing. What am I doing wrong??? Or is the stereo broken????
