Just hit 20k and noticed a "rattle" coming on at times up front, popped the hood as I was changing the oil last night and found that when the fan kicks on it sounds like it's hitting something. With the car off, I spun it by hand both ways and no sound/interference.
View 3 RepliesLately I've started having an intermittent metallic noise that has been bugging me. At first it occurred on long runs and sounded like it could have been the brakes or something similar. It is not too loud but is continuous, rather like gently rattling your set of keys.
It got steadily worse and I eventually tracked it down to the passenger seat. When I held the seat the metallic rattle stopped.
58,000 miles. Slight "rattle" - very low noise level -coming from area around the glove boxes, or passenger front door, or from outside the car..

View 7 RepliesI was sure it was coming from right side of dash...maybe around the speaker area or side window vent. I took most of the side dash pieces out, glove box air vent speaker grill no luck...pulled the inner fender well out and the inner door plastic out I found it to be the tip of the front fender where it meets the roof vibrating...you can confirm yours by tapping about 3 to 4 inches forward of the outside mirror...that part of the fender is unsupported. I put to felt pads when 3m tape wrapped around them pushed them up between the inner fender and gone...I took some pics...Toyota shop said they would have never found it...I showed them
View 11 RepliesI did a quick search on the 'creaking' or 'rattle' noise seemingly coming from the B-Pillar and found just a bunch of complaints.
Any fix, whether DYI or dealer? It is driving me crazy and is completely unacceptable for a brand new car, of any make or model. What to do and that is what I will do. No matter the measures at this point.
Is it normal to have this rattle noise that is coming from the CAI which i never noticed before? This only happened after installing a turbo back and car runs fine. It just sounded like marble got sucked in the intake or 2 thick plates banging. I am pretty sure its not the heat shield for the filter also because i tried holding that and looked at that part. Went under the car too but i cant pinpoint where its coming from but maybe inside the engine?

I also got a pronounce rattling at 2000 rpm when I let go of the gas that's located maybe at the bottom passenger side. I am thinking fuel lines?
Suspension noise I am getting from my 2011 MD.
This noise occurs only over small shock type bumps IE, train tracks that are not smooth, those reflectors in the road, and the metal plates over construction projects. Any bump that forces the suspension over a small vertical or near vertical drop or rise of about one inch.
In my driveway I have a storm grate about an inch lower than the surrounding pavement and it rattles over this every day. Now the fun part.
The noise is ONLY when I hit such a bump with the right side of the car. The left side rolls over the same bumps smoothly and quietly.
This noise is also only present over the small type bumps discussed earlier. My dealer has a rough road that they use to test suspension noises and the car rolls down it silently. The problem also doesn't manifest itself over speed bumps.
The noise is still present while applying the brakes on which makes me doubt its a caliper float issue.
The strut brace and lower control arm/bushings on the right side have been replaced by the dealer under warranty but they can not seem to get to the root of this problem as both these replacements have had no effect.
From inside the car it is very difficult to pinpoint where the noise is coming from but it almost seems like the center of from suspension.

I have a 2001 Ex with the 6.8, stock motor, exhaust etc and I have had a rattle I have not been able to track down. I finally crawled under it the other day with a buddy (auto body guy) and we isolated the noise to be coming from inside the tailpipe, just about where it bends by the rear tire/wheel. I ran a fish tape up the pipe and it seemed to stop right in the area of the bend. My question is there a baffle of some sort in there?
View 2 RepliesI've noticed a noise coming from the engine which sounds to me like the timing chain. Seems like the tensioner is keeping the chain a little loose while the RPM's are low. The rattle doesn't happen all the time; only when I let off the throttle or accelerate keeping the RPM's low.
This is just my guess that it's the timing chain. I had heard a similar rattle in my old I35 and I had to change the timing chain tensioner.
I'm going to check the engine oil level tomorrow morning. This 10,000 mile oil change is really starting to seem like a not so good idea! Right now I'm at 9950..
I recently purchased a 2009 Camry with 95,000 miles. The Camry was purchased new at the dealer that I bought it from and all of the maintenance had been done at the same dealer so I have records of everything.
I did not notice any rattles when I test drove the Camry but driving it the next day I noticed two rattles. The first rattle was the deck area behind the back seat. That was easily fixed with some card board shims placed the right places. I will do a permanent fix later.
The other rattle was driving me crazy. It did not do it all of the time and to me it sounded "exactly" like it was coming from the area around or in the glove box. I took the glove box and the area around it off and could not find the source of the rattle. I had my daughter drive the car while I set in the passenger seat and the rattle never occurred.
I finally found the source of the rattle. It was the lid for the center console. The lid originally had two rubber bumpers. Both of the bumpers were either missing or worn completely down. When I had my elbow on the center console lid the rattle did not occur. I fixed it with stick on drawer stops.
I would describe the noise as a low rattle/knocking when i hit bumps(or the second after). i thought it might be my spare tire knocking around in its trunk well under the carpet. I actually removed it and drove around to check, but it was not the issue. I had a mechanic look at wheels/suspension because of this noise, he told me the rear passenger side sway bar link needed to be replaced. I personally ended up doing the work and replaced the right and left rear sway bar links however the noise persists.
while the rear was jacked up i tried wobbling the wheels with my hands to check for play but found nothing in any direction. The mechanic seemed to think everything else looked ok.
I only notice it at low speeds like driving around a neighborhood. The big bumps it either isnt happening or the noise is drowned out by the general sound of hitting larger bumps. But over mildly bump sections such as a bad asphalt patch chop it can be very noticeable.
Its not very consistent, its hard to predict when ill hear it and its almost like its during when my suspension settles after hitting the bump that its heard.
I have a 2004 Camry with what is the most odd noise I've ever heard. The noise sounds like a cross between water trickling over stones and maybe bearings rolling around in a tube, or maybe someone crinkling paper. It sounds like it is coming from inside the dashboard, or maybe just beyond the firewall in the engine compartment.
It tends to occur when the vehicle is stopped and is just starting to accelerate from a stop. It can also occur when the vehicle is breaking to a stop. It doesn't sound like break pads (not grinding metal-on-metal sound).
At a stop, I can shift the automatic transmission into neutral and rev the engine a little and the sound will occur, but it doesn't seem to be dependent on any specific RPM nor does it co-vary based on increases or decreases in RPM. Basically, when I rev, the sound simply occurs. It is of variable intensity and duration, and is very random in peak of volume and sequence of noises. If I didn't know better, I'd swear there was a chipmunk under the hood (I looked, there isn't.)
I drive the car daily, but my regular trip to work is very short so the car runs for no more than 5 minutes each morning. In a five minute drive, with 4 stop sign/lights, the noise will occur basically every time I accelerate.
Theres a loud rattling noise coming from somewhere inside the center console, where the shift lever is, that's annoying as hell! Sounds like a metal ball bearing bouncing around against other metal pieces. I put my fingers down there and touched everything I could to try to stop the rattling but I couldn't. I did not remove the foam insulation.
View 4 RepliesI drive a 2011 Elantra and like it quite a lot with the way it looks, interior space, beautiful lighting, fuel economy, etc.
I started hearing rattle while driving over even slight bumps; the sound seems to be coming from both of the upper halves of the B-pillars. Tried spraying plastic contact surfaces with silicon spray but squeaks are still there.
Simple inspection of the upper part of the B-pillar plastic (gray colored, in my case) shows that it has a significant gap between the plastic cover and the pillar...
So now I'm thinking to remove the plastic covers and see what may be at fault, to tighten the way it sits maybe. How to go about taking the thing apart (and then putting it back in place )?
I have been noticing a rattle noise coming from the a/c vent with the setting on the lowest. What this may be?
View 4 RepliesI have an 2005 VW Touareg. I purchased it 1 month ago with 8919 miles on it. I love the thing! However I have a rattle coming from the part that is below the passenger dash. The good thing is it only rattles when i hit a big bump, however when u pay 30k + this is the last thing you want to hear. See Pic. How to remove this black panel so i may fix it? Dealer was no luck the typical "I didn't hear any rattles" ....
View 1 RepliesI have a high mileage Aviator - it currently has 162k+ ... I have owned it since 136k, and according to Lincoln's records the transmission was rebuilt/replaced shortly before that ... The truck has run well since we've owned it.
It has developed a noise that I originally thought was an engine problem (bottom end), but I got under it today and took a good listen and it sounds to me like it's coming from the top side of the transmission.

I strange "tinny" rattle has started and I cannot seem to find the cause. The location seems to be on the driver side some place in front of the gas panel door and someplace behind the rear door. It seems to be coming from something inside the main body of the car! If I slam the rear door I hear it for a few seconds.
