When I go over a rough gravel road, there is a rattle that is definitely in the steering column. How is this fixed? Is it a simple tightening of something? My Prius is a 2006 with 180,000 miles.
View 4 RepliesI've got a 2012 F250 SD and when i go over some bumps in the road or even down a gravel road, the door panel on the driver side vibrates and it's noisy. Is there any way to pull the panel and add some foam padding or something to stop this? I can see the panel vibrate or heck, maybe it the whole door.

Lately I'm getting the sound inside the car. It feels like a loose bushing or something.
When going down the road I notice a rattle noise coming from the steering column area. I took it to the dealer a week or so after noticing it. I purchased the car brand new and like I said I took it to the dealer a week after purchasing it and they said they could not find anything and said they zip tied the brake lines or some bs hoping that would solve my problem.
It is now kind of obvious and I am going to take it back in to another dealership that has a better reputation.

I have had my 2010 GS450h for a few months now and about a month after I bought it, I noticed a faint rattle from the steering column, almost like there is a loose bolt or something. It is getting more noticeable (especially on broken pavement/rough roads) It's annoying and the only issue I have with the car.

View 4 RepliesWent to pick up my Touareg tonight. Took it for a quick test drive and there was a noise and rattle coming from the steering column when you hit bumps. It sounded like metal on metal. The tech guy drove it with me and agreed something is wrong. They put it up on the rack but I left because I had been there for one hour and that was already past my mental limit for being in a car dealership. I didn't sign the paperwork. Told them to call me when they figure it out and I'll come back and buy it if the problem is not significant. Everything was going great until then.
View 2 RepliesI have an xc90 D5 awd. It has about 200 000 km on the clock. It started cutting out a month ago while driving on a gravel road. After cutting out about 10 times I just tried are 2nd key and it hasn't given us the problem ever again. I then went to Volvo who told me to replace the key .. R4200 rand.. Insane I obviously didn't go thru with it been using the other key ever since.
View 2 RepliesWell this just started. I only really hear it over road cracks with the windows open. There's no clicking while turning, and I can't really call it a " clunk". That said, I'm assuming it's the infamous tie rod/control arm thing that was supposed to be solved by the time of the B5.5. Is it possible something just needs to be tightened?

View 3 RepliesI have an annoying rattle the occurs on rough road surfaces. It comes from the front right wheel area but goes away instantly with light brake pedal pressure. Three trips to the shop have not identified the problem. I just read somewhere that there are "anti-rattle clips" or springs on the brake calipers. Is this right and are these the same as the retaining springs/clips that can be seen from the outside through the slots in the alloys wheels?
View 5 RepliesI am the proud owner of a P.O.S it’s a 2001 Chevrolet Malibu, the trouble is with my ABS braking system. I replaced both hubs a year ago they have the ABS sensor built into them. The light has started coming on so I checked the voltage on both sides of the car the reading are, driver side at 169mv-320mv and the ohm reading is 1.02K, on the passenger side it reads 140mv-240mv the ohm reads 1.01K, one is a bit lower but well above the 50mv minimum. When I restart my car sometimes the light is out until the ABS kicks in on a wet or gravel road. Then the dash light comes on and the ABS system shuts down again, the only thing a code reader states is low voltage in the system but does not call out what side or where the low voltage is coming from…

View 2 RepliesI have a 97 F-150 4wd and when I drive over rough places on the road you can hear a rattling noise. It also causes my truck to thud loudly. But also as I just coast at about 10 mph with the window down you can hear that rattling noise. Almost sounds like a washer sliding on a shaft or something. You can definitely tell something is loose in the front end when i hit rough places. We've jacked it up and tried to move the wheel and the bearings and ball joints seem tight.
View 6 RepliesI got my all new Lexus but driver door has been rattle since 400 mile. It's like plastic vibrating and creaking.... I think it's the door panel is making the noise especially on rough road. When it rattles, I can place my hands on and share the vibration, then the noise would be somehow suppressed.
The problem is that I took it to dealer and they, as usual, cannot reproduce the problem! I took down the door panel myself, tightened all screws...and the noise...got worse....
Ok, I have a noise, rattle, clunk that is bothering the heck out of me. I know it is not the famous clunk from the yoke or the pads missing on the leaf springs. I have even removed the Tailgate thinking that was the issue, but no it was not.
When driving on gravel roads or if I hit small bumps in the road I hear the noise and it sounds like it is coming from underneath and towards the rear of the truck. It is hard to explain the sound, but it almost sounds as if there was something loose and the metal is hitting again the frame?? I have 126000 miles on it, so I figured I would replace the shocks, they needed it and that did not work, it is still there.
Now the twist, when the temp outside gets below 60 the noise starts to fade away or I have to run over a bigger bump to hear it, and below 40 it almost does not exist. Now the hotter it gets out, the more I hear it and during the summer months it is really annoying. I have also looked underneath and could not find anything that looked cracked, broke or loose.

View 11 RepliesHow do you remove the top steering column cover? This is the plastic piece immediately toward the front of the car from the steering wheel. It covers the steering column and is not part of the steering wheel. Part number is 45286-47040-C0 and the parts breakdown doesn't show any fasteners, it probably has some tabs that need to be released, but where?
View 2 RepliesSometimes my steering wheel squeaks. It sounds like plastic rubbing against plastic. The first dealership said the compartment under the steering wheel was rubbing against the column or something inside and that they made an adjustment and the sound stopped. It didn't. The second dealership told me they couldn't figure it out unless they heard the sound. Since it's not every time I drive, sure enough it made no noise at the dealership that day. The head of the shop looked into it and couldn't figure it out. He dry-lubed behind the steering wheel to get to a spring back there. He did the same for where the steering column comes into the car at the bottom of the car. Good for a few days. Squeaking back today.
View 9 RepliesMy steering wheel has a squeak when turning either left or right slightly from center.. I usually notice the squeak while stationary or parking. It's louder and more noticeable when it's hot outside.
Listening carefully, it seems to be coming from inside the steering column, not from linkages or joints from under the car. Looking for a exploded diagram of the steering column components, perhaps it's just a U joint (tilt?) that needs some lubing to make it quiet.
My 2012 RX350 now for over a year and like it a lot.........BUT.
There's seems to be a lot "road noise" that's transmitted back into the cabin, like driving over expansion joints on blacktop or rough road surface, is this normal?
I drove a 2000 RX300 for 100,000 miles and don't remember it being this noisy. Interior noise is great and quiet.
