Prius (Gen 3) :: Mileage Discrepancy Between Odometer And GPS
Aug 27, 2014
Just for grins I used a GPS mileage logger app on my phone to compare to the mileage logged on the car. The app was launched well before taking off and so there was a good satellite fix.
Trip summary on the car logged 15.9 miles, and the GPS logged 15.52 miles. Tires are stock 17" Toyo Proxes down to 4/32nds. What do you think of this discrepancy?

For the average mileage calculation that appears in the odometer screen, what resets it? Seems that it self-resets at 1,000 miles. Is this correct?

I have an erratic fuel gauge. I have to reset odometer at every gas fill up to keep track of mileage. Need to replace the unit but I tried the GM Fuel treatment Plus in the gas tank first.

I recently purchased a 2009 LS 460, and I was wondering is their anyway to remove the display of the odometer reading for the entire mileage on the car?

I have a 1999 740iL. The speedometer, odometer, and instantaneous mileage indicator are inoperative most of the time. Also, the yellow ABS indicator (and another yellow light) on the dash are also lit whenever the gauges are not working.
The ONLY time that the gauges work is when the temperature is under about 45 F, and if the car is cold. If the car warms up, or if the temperature outside warms up, the indicator lights go on and the gauges don't work.
I presume that there is some faulty connection that works when the parts are cold (contracted), and bad when the parts are warm (some degree of compression due to thermal expansion).
(One fellow said that this could be either an internal fault in the instrument cluster, internal fault in the ABS module, or faulty wheel speed sensor).
What makes the most sense, especially given the thermal nature of the problem??

I've read through my manual, but can't find anything on how to actually lock the odometer at zero when I don't need it. Trip A is set to my oil change mileage and I just want Trip B to be off or at zero. 2012 F150 XL SBRC, 5.0 V8 4x4, 3.55 gears....

I have a 1997 f150 4.6L 4x4 Standard Transmission and today I hopped in it to go to work, and the Speedo, Trip Odometer, and Odometer all are not working.
This is the first time it has happened to me, what could cause this or have a problem similar to this and know how to fix it?

I just found out from a dealer that my odometer (2004) does not go above 300,000 miles. I guess if I had been on Priuschat more regularly I would have discovered this long ago! Any answer from Toyota as to why this is so, or what (if anything) they are going to do about it? I'd think it would be fairly bad publicity for them to have it publicized that they don't expect the Prius to last more than 300,000 miles...

I believe that the odometer MPG applies to "when the hybrid engine is started." I turn the car on, and the odometer MPG is at 0.0
I flip to "Trip A", and reset it. Now the Trip A MPG is 0.

I have been recently got an offer to move to OH from Toronto, Canada. One of the criteria to import my car to the US is to have my 2008 Prius Odometer from KM to Miles.

How to reverse this or do I need to make another trip to the dealership?

I just replaced my battery and am wondering if by doing that my the system that counts 5000 miles until next oil change reset. My clock, radio stations, the consumption (miles since last fill up) all reset, so I'm wondering if the count to 5000 reset also. The odometer did not reset though, and the gas tank amount was correct. Just wondering because I didn't write down when my last oil change was.

About two weeks ago I saw some moisture under the odometer screen. . I went to the dealer, the dealer said it is chemicals and will not be under toyota's warranty. what ever it is , I think it should be under warranty since it is under two layers of glasses, if it is not toyota's fault, how can it get there.

I've had my XB 5-speed for nearly a year and 10000 miles. It as been dead on reliable and fun to drive. My gas mileage has varied from 26 to 31 in mixed driving and from 32 to 35 on the highway. I use premium fuel only because I can get it without ethanol. My fuel mileage also increased a couple of mpg due to getting the power robbing ethanol out. True it is probably not enough to offset the extra expense but I like not having the stuff in my car. My only dissatisfactions has been with the transmission gear ratios. They are way to low. This torquy engine could easily do with a ratio that would drop about 500 rpm for more relaxed highway cruising.
As it is, though, my XB will go up any hill or long grade without breathing hard! Another is the instrumentation. I don't mind the center mounted set-up but speedometer and trip meter for mpg ratings are both inaccurate. My speedo reads about 2.5 mph high and the fuel mileage read out has about the same error, also on the high side. I have the stock 16" tires. The clutch has a narrow engagement band and can be difficult to be smooth on. The car is fairly quiet, is comfortable and this years hot, humid summer has shown it has one of the best air conditioners I have ever experienced in a car. I thought it might be an electric unit rather than a belt driven compressor because there is absolutely no perceived drag when the compressor kicks on.

I am trying to figure out how to turn on this display for the odometer. Surely this wasn't designed to only show avg consumption for trips right?

I have a 2015 PRIUS C for 3+ months now (used to drive a 2012 PRIUS) . Approx 3K+ miles traveled already to date. Anyway, I noticed on 2 occurrence that my MPG on the odometer view has had a huge reading fluctuation. Prior to the first occurrence, my Travel A was somewhere around 46MPG and it closely matched the Odometer view reading. Then I noticed it go down to 33MPG while Travel A is still at 46MPG, both had the same miles traveled. I let it go and when I checked my MPG on the Odometer last week, it was back to normal.

Just got my PiP about two weeks ago. Just had to fill up for the first time. I was going to try and manually calculate MPG on the ICE and was looking at my Odometer and added up the HV and EV miles and they don't match.
Is this normal? Is my MPG the HV miles divided by my gallons of gas I just filled up?

If you remove the battery contact (effectively removing power to the car) does the trip odometer reset? Just wondering, as I plan on doing a relay install for my HID setup.

I have a 2002 Prius, and I have been struggling trying to get it fix. But it's either one thing to the next without completely knowing what's what. Recently, the right front bearing and the left rear bearing, both front struts/shocks, right balljoint, and two front brakes were replaced.
Before these replacements, I had a P1436 code for the valve which was lube but nothing happened. Then after replacing the front struts/shocks, turn the car on for a test drive, brake light and check engine light came on, speed odometer it not working. I used the OBII scanner from autozone and got P0500 said: vehicle speed sensor A malfunction.
