I've tried all the local car part stores and Napa has the pressure hose but for about $180.
I have a leak coming from the top of my reservoir from the under the cap for some reason. I bought a new cap and it seem to stop for a day and now it leaking out from under the cap again. What is the reason it would be coming out of there. Am I going to have to replace the reservoir??

In the picture I attached, the large silver bolt is leaking. Its a slow leak: yesterday morning I wiped it off, and then we I got home from work there was a bead of power steering fluid, but not enough to drip.
What is the best way to fix this? Is it as simple as tightening it?
Going up my driveway (its kinda steep) after 4 or 5 inches of fresh snow fall- smoke in the engine bay and inside the car. Its a 2003, Santa Fe with the big V6. Driving on level ground it doesn't smoke. I thought it must be the 4WD which I guess only kicks in when needed, driveway hadn't been snow blown yet. Saw a couple dots of red in the snow afterward. Didn't notice it before. But on the way to work tonight (same day) the power steering was not a 100%. The reservoir is down, right on the minimum mark. So now I'm thinking I have a leak and the smoke is from the PS fluid hitting the exhaust. Though why it only smokes in my driveway beats me. It looks as though the exhaust on this engine (big V6) is directly underneath the pump. I think I can verify it tomorrow. Would a PS leak in the vicinity of the pump fall onto the exhaust? Think this is the smoking gun? I can't even see the pump. But the manual says its on the left/rear.
View 3 RepliesMy 2001 Santa Fe had a slow PS leak for over a year which I dealt with just by adding fluid several times a year. Then I let the car sit for a few months while I saved up for input/output sensors. I just replaced those and discovered that the PS leak is noticeably worse.
I searched the forums and found that the most common problem is a clogged reservoir screen, resulting in fluid backup that sprays the engine bay. I don't think that's the problem. The engine bay is dry and both reservoir hoses are dry. The spot where I've found the most wetness is closer to the firewall and much lower than the reservoir but I need identifying it.
2005 Santa Fe (88K, 2.7 V6).
For a month or two, after the car got warmed up, I'd hear a whine/hum noise when I slowed to turn or reduced speed. The noise was much more noticeable when the car had been running at least 15-20 minutes, but I did occasionally hear it when the car was somewhat cool still. Never had a problem steering during this time, even with the noise... but I eventually figured out that slowing down and/or turning brought it on. So I took it to a mechanic.
They showed me bubbles coming from the power steering reservoir, and said I needed a new PS pump and pressure hose, along with a flush/new fluid. I paid for all of that.
Next day: The car would become hard to turn when I made a tight turn into a parking spot... again, not a constant thing, but only when turning to park and going slow. The noise APPEARED to be gone, but this new issue worried me so I took it back. They put a different pump on (no charge), thinking the other may have been defective.
Next Day: I hear the whine again on my way home from work. When I get home, I park, leave it running, and pop the hood. There's a fast drip bubbling from beneath the reservoir cap and running down to the pavement. First thing the next morning I return to mechanic. He says the first two pumps were the same brand and both "remanufactured" so he switches to a different brand -- this one brand new, not "remanufactured" -- and installs that one.
A half hour later, I get home. Hearing that same whine/hum, I lift the hood. Fluid is pouring out from beneath the cap in a steady, unbroken stream (not a drip, but a stream). So I took it back to the mechanic (who to his credit, has charged me nothing since the initial new pump installation). What could cause the power steering fluid to gush out from the reservoir cap when the car gets hot? I have a brand new pump and pressure hose. What could cause this condition..
I bought my van in 2011 from my dad's former employer. It was a fleet vehicle and wasn't in the greatest of condition when I bought it. In 2012 I was told that I had a leak in my oil pan from a mechanic. I never ended up getting it fixed for various reasons. A few months ago, I lost power steering in my van and have been driving since without it. My dad wanted to see if anything could be done to fix it and found out the van is completely rusted underneath and ended up puncturing a hole in the bottom when he tried to jack the thing up. I am really hoping to get a (new) used car but don't have the money right now. I was wondering though how long would you expect I could "survive" with my car like this?
View 16 RepliesI am having a power steering problem with my 2006 santa fe, been going on for a couple weeks and I am stumped on what is wrong with it, what I noticed is turning to the left or right and very hard to turn and sometimes it will be fine and other times its the left or right.. What could be going on here? there is no leaks or noises noted, it has 242,000 kms on it. fluid is full but a little brown and smells a bit burnt. I know it will need a flush but would that be the solution or would it be something else?
View 15 RepliesI've got what seems to be a fairly common problem in that my power steering on my 2001 SF gives off a steady whine. I've read in several posts that removing the power steering reservoir and either replacing it or cleaning out the screen solves the problem. I'm ready to give that a shot, but can't seem to figure out how to remove the part. There is a "tab" type of thing on the back of it, but it doesn't seem to do the trick. I'm admittedly no mechanic, but this seems like it should be relatively easy. How to remove the reservoir?

View 8 RepliesI have very good question. My 2001 Santa Fe has 200k miles, I think the car is great. Regular maintenance, and the car drives still drives strong and comfortable.
Here is my problem: The power steering fluid is disappearing. There is no puddle under the car, I got under the car and everything is dry. However about once a week (+/- 200 miles) I have to add power steering fluid. I have cleaned the reservoir twice and confirmed that the top of the reservoir is also dry ( so is not bubbling off the top of the reservoir).
I have put newspapers under the car while parked overnight to see if there is a leak and the news paper is dry in the morning without a stain.
Fluids do not disappear. Could it be leaking while driving (high pressure hose) and its leaking from a location that I cannot see? Where is the "banjo connector" that I have heard referred to ?
My power steering seems to have sprung a leak. There is quite a bit of fluid below the passenger side of the steering rack. The leak seems to be right below where the power steering hose comes down off the pump, gets secured to the chassis and changes to metal line from rubber. The metal line then goes into an L bend and is routed towards the driver side right where the leak apparently is.
I haven't had a chance to have a good look, as it was 10:30 at night when I parked it and looked (12km of careful city driving since it started to act up)
Is this a high pressure or return line?
The leak seems to be forward of the steering rack, so hopefully I wont have to replace it.
My Santa Fe has a broken power steering pump pulley. Darn thing broke right around the spindle! I can not find a replacement anywhere. I've tried to find a one new, used and at the upull lots (only one Santa Fe in at Pick n Pull dang thing was stripped clean!). The pump is easy to find but this pulley is a ghost!
View 3 RepliesMy power steering went out a few months ago. No warning, whining, or hiccups. Just stopped working. Installed a new pump today, and it worked great for about five minutes. Bled it out, put fluid in, etc. Took off on a test drive and a mile up the road I went to turn into a street and power steering was gone.
Fluid is still full, belt is still there, no visible leaks. 2004 3.5L V6.
I have a 2003 Santa Fe that had a corroded leaking power steering return line. I want to replace both the high pressure and the low pressure lines coming from the steering box. The high pressure removed quite easily. I cannot get the low pressure out. Everything is broken free. Is there a trick to this? I want to see how it comes out so I can put the new one in same way.
View 3 RepliesThe AC/power steering belt in my 2004 Santa Fe, 2.4L has intermittently squealed for some time, but lately the squeal has gotten louder. Initially it only happened when the compressor was on, but now it happens when the compressor is off. I have not experienced a loss in steering power but I did notice that the power steering fluid appears to be discolored. I have replaced the belt and re-tensioned it several times hoping this would solve the issue, but it hasn't. I intend to take the belt off again and see if the pulleys all spin freely. When I replaced the belt initially, everything did spin freely. My guess is that the power steering pump may be shot and is putting excessive load on the belt, however, there is no PS pump "whine" and again, no loss of power steering. It looks like I should also check for separated pulleys.

View 1 RepliesI have a 01 santa fe 2.7 motor. I have read several threads in here regarding the famous pump whine. my pump is making a whine at idle, I have cleaned the bottle and made sure the screen has not restrictions, drained all the fluid, and have inspected the lines for leaks.
With a stethoscope have pin the noised to the pump, the noise travels in the reservoir when I race the engine the noise is more evident on the bottle. I am tempted to replace the pump, but the steering has no issues and operates fine, also no change in the whine noise when moving left to right.
I have been experiencing an intermittent problem with the power steering on my 2002 Santa Fe. It seems to happen in the rain or when driving through puddles...the power steering seems to lock up for a short period, usually lasting only seconds. It has only been a nuisance so far, but it could be a major safety issue if it happens at the wrong time.

I have an issue with my 2004 GLS 3.5 L w/ 68000 miles. After the SUV warms up for a few minutes I can hear a whine or rattle on the passenger side. I noticed a little power steering fluid leaked out the top of the reservoir (a few little bubbles in the oil). Then reading on the HMA website it says the filter in the reservoir can get clogged and restrict the flow. I took the reservoir off and flushed it out then replaced with new oil.
Unfortunately this did not fix the issue the noise is still there. It's most prevalent when you turn but the noise also picks up a little when you hit the gas. I have checked for hose leaks but cannot find one. My next step is to have the steering pump changed out. While the mechanics in there I am going to have him check the hoses/pulleys really close and look around for another leaks anywhere. Noise is annoying but the steering works fine.
I have a 04 santa fe , which slowly started whining which was diagnosed a power steering pump, when replaced the problem got worse and it became very hard to steer. Steering rack was the next diagnosis, replaced and another new pump. Now its so hard to steer and the whining has returned. Looking in the reservoir the fluid seems to be moving good with no bubbles??
