I have a 2004 3.5 V6 that is making a rattling noise when the car is in idle and/or about 1rpm. Sometimes, for awhile now , it kind of screams when I first start it...but not all the time. I know this is a loaded question but what do you think it might be? The screaming noises don't happen all the time, like I said, and very rarely happen together but the rattling is happening a lot!
View 1 RepliesUsually happens after car is warmed up. Rattles only while stopped and transmission still in drive. If I shift into Neutral or Park, rattling stops.
Last time I had a problem similar to this, dealer said it was a heat shield making the noise and they said they removed the heat shield (didn't specify what the heat shield was for.
Now I'm wondering if the heat shield was removed, what else this could be now...planning on taking it in in a few days.
My mother has a '04 Santa Fe 3.5. Her automobile makes a rattling/grinding sound when around 1000rpms/idle. However, the sound disappears when accelerating and drives like a charm. The sound returns once again around 1000rmps at idle or stop. I have changed the oil pan, replaced oil and filter and even put in a new battery. I'm not an aficionado when it comes to Hyundais (Subaru driver here).Car also has 180k miles.
View 6 RepliesSo, I recently got my car serviced with balance shaft belt, 2 idlers, crank sensor, timing belt, spark plugs, ignition wires, and ignition coils. And now when i drive my car and accelerate it to about 3400 to 3500 rpm i get this rattling noise from my engine then when the rpm surpass that range i dont get any noise anymore. I really don't want to take it back to the shop and have to be charge for a diagnose but I am thinking it could be serpentine belt or loose of the down pipe.

View 3 RepliesWhen I am driving my elantra (engine warm), say I pull up to a red light or I am in a 'drive thru' my RPM's will go to under 500 and normally go under 400 which causes the whole car to shake and sound like it will stall. The car also has the issue with the Air Conditioning on that makes the vehicle have a deep rattling sound along with the very low idle which follows with my lights dimming or lightly flickering.

My 2003 Sante Fe has developed a rattling sound in the engine. The oil level has been good. I took it to a dealer for diagnoses and they told me that the engine was gunked up and the timing "chain" tensioner couldn't move to keep it tight and it was rattling. They put some engine cleaner in and changed the oil and wanted me back in 500 to clean it again. I did that again, but the rattle is still there. It gets a little quieter after I have driven it for a while.
My question is doesn't the Sante Fe have a timing belt? If that is the case what do you think the rattle is?
I bought a 2002 santa fe last week. it was a non runner. the previous owner said he took it to the garage for a crank oil seal leak. when he went to collect the car they had removed the head saying oil was leaking from the gasket. he towed it away and i bought it. i have refitted the head. the engine runs smooth at idle. when i first start up in the morning there is a loud rattle for a second or so. it sounds like a diesel starting up. when i am driving it hesitates and seems to lose power. also at a certain position on the accelerator pedal this rattle is there. it goes away when i accelerate more.
View 12 RepliesSanta fe developed a noise underneath that rattles up to the gear shift. It happens mostly when you take your foot off the gas but can happen if your just cruising. Engine does not make any noise while revving it or under load in drive with foot on brake. Definitely sounds rotational but all looks ok underneath.
View 2 RepliesLately I have been hearing a rattling noise from the bottom of my car, when it's in park I can barely hear it but I know its there, but when i put it in drive or reverse it gets worse. Could it be that the exhaust heat shield is loose? Or worse? I had my Tranny fluid flused at 142,000 mi i'm at 144,000.
View 9 RepliesI have a 2005 Honda CR-V with about 97,000 miles on it. I recently noticed that there's a rattling sound when the car is idle but it disappear when driving. The noise can only heard outside. It is also intermittent. I just had the idler pulley/Belt Tensioner replaced a couple of days ago as a friend thought that was the issue. Car seems run normal, I don't notice any change in performance and no check engine or what so ever. I have a long drive coming up in a couple of weeks and I have no clue what could be going on.
View 4 Repliesi have an 07 jeep compass (only 52k miles). it was making a loud rattling noise (i liken the sound to the noise a penny or pebble makes when its sucked up a vacuum). I pulled off for gas last night and it just wouldn't turn back on. AAA was able to jump the battery and i was able to drive home. Now its dead again. i previously had an issue where the car was stalling when idle (only if it was in drive). I'm thinking the rattling, battery draining and stalling must all be connected.

Over the past month, I've started to notice a rattling noise/ticking coming from the front passenger door/"B" pillar area of the SFS. More so on bumpier roads... so I'm sure something has come loose somehow....
View 42 RepliesI purchased a brand new 2014 SFS 2.4L Luxury just a week ago. I have noticed rattling/ticking noise coming from the driver side door. If I press againt the door with my elbow, the noise stops.
And here is the weird thing, I can hear the noise in the morning when the car is cooled overnight (parked in underground garage). But it does not happen when the car has been parked under the sun for a long period of time (in 25C/77F). So basically, I hear it on my way to work and it disappears on my way home.
I purchased a used 2010 Toyota Corolla LE with about 40k miles back in February of this year. Since then, the car has been issue-free and has responded accordingly.
Two weeks ago I noticed that the car when idle or at a stop light it'd make a subtle rattling noise (as if it was something behind the glove compartments rattling against metal). At 1st I thought maybe it was something inside, but as that week turned to days, I noticed that while I was outside the car and it was on and idle, I could hear the rattling from the right side of the car under the passenger seat (closer to the engine, as if right below where the glove compartment sat)--It is a constant rattle at the same frequency..meaning it doesn't rattle one way 1st and then another later. It sounds the same, but it is random.
It evolved from a subtle rattle inside to being a loud rattle outside under the car. I noticed that if it was rattling and I turned off the air, the rattling would stop, but after 20 seconds, the rattling would return just not as frequent.
It was advised to me that perhaps it was the blower...but the blower sits behind the glove compartment and should not sound so loud under the car. Not only that, but if the blower isn't on (when I turn off the air) it shouldn't sound...at least that's my logic for it.
The sound is getting louder and more frequent at this time and I'm just not sure what to do about this. I live in Miami, FL and hearing so many rip offs at mechanics, I don't know what this rattling is and I've already crawled under the car and see nothing wrong, nothing shaking violently, nothing.
I own a 91 Mercedes, model 190E which is just perfect for a retired single woman. As you probably already assume this car has 141,000 miles with an automatic transmission and I have had it in the various mechanic shops in my small town. I tried to remain with one mechanic or another, for continuity sake, but always find there is something haywire with the repairs done to it.
After one of the repairs jobs which included the replacement of the torques converter, rear main and transmission seals to include the O-rings, the car wouldn't shift from first gear. They kept it for 5 weeks during this repair. I had to rent a car for transportation during this period. I took the car back and they kept it for another three weeks.
When the car was returned to me it had a shuddering noise when in drive at idle. If I shift to neutral gear the noise and shuddering stops. I didn't take it back after that I was so discouraged about the change in the operation of my vehicle. I depend on these mechanics and just feel they are taking advantage. I have taken the car to several mechanics and cannot find anyone that can identify the problem. So, what is causing it the rock and roll of this car.
I have a high milage (210K) '07 2.4L which has a slight engine rattling noise at idle RPM at cold and operating temps, in gear or park. It is a fairly constant noise at idle but does vary a little. Otherwise, engine/tranny operate beautifully with no obvious problems.
I am concerned this could be a timing chain/tensioner related issue although I also wonder if it may be some other component. I have not been able to determine the source or location of the sound.

I have a 2002 VW Beetle 1.8L Turbo with over 120k miles. Recently it started idly roughly on occasion and had a slight rattling noise but only when stopped. When it was driving, it felt fine. This went on for about a week and then one day about a week ago it started for about 10 seconds and then stalled. Since then it will turn over, but not start. We've checked the starter, fuel pump, fuel pump relay and ignition coils and have replaced the crankshaft sensor (which was what I found on VW sites as saying it often solved problems like mine). The battery is new. Part of what I saw when researching was in addition to what is currently happening other owners had a long term issue with the car bogging down once in awhile at high speeds (50 mph+) for a few seconds and then picking back up again. My car did this as well and that's why I thought the crankshaft sensor may be the issue.
View 3 RepliesMy 2001 SL2 is making a lot of rattling noise. I think I have isolated it to the A/C compressor. I noticed that on the back side of the A/C clutch the plate where the signal wire connects into is very loose when the A/C is not on. The noise seems to be loudest when the A/C is not on. But when I turn on the A/C, that plate tightens up. But the noise continues. Could it just be the A/C clutch or a bearing or something? Or is the noise coming from somewhere not even related to the A/C? The A/C still works really well. I just notice the noise.
