So I just bought this 03 Santa FE a week or so ago and the Speedo like to drop at random intervals. I'll be cruising along at 60 down the highway and then BAM! nothing happens to the car as long as I don't have the cruise control on...if I do then it sputters and I just take over. Is this more than just a Speed sensor issue?

A week ago it started making a random ticking noise I've never heard before. Today was the first chance I got to try and find it and I'm stumped on what could cause this.
The sound is a static or low voltage electrical discharge coming off the harmonic balancer. I can actually see the blue spark occurring at random intervals and locations on the balancer as the car is running.
Do i need to be looking for a bad engine ground? I'm having no other electrical problems. The car runs like a champ other than a minor oil and power steering fluid leak.
I have a 2003 2.7 auto. Quite suddenly the speedo and cruise control have stopped working. Everything else works just fine...
View 2 RepliesBought a Passat 2.0 Komfort and we're on its' first road trip. Between 65 - 80 mph a chime goes off three times at seemingly random intervals whether I'm accelerating or decelerating in that zone. The speed warning is turned off and the winter tire function is off. There are no warning lights or messages. It's got my salesperson and a VW service dept baffled.

When I removed the center console to clean it up I noted there is an airbag module in there, and at one point in time there appears to have been a liquid spill nearby.
I saw a couple threads that were pretty old on this note, but was hoping for some fresh input on the possible problem and resolution to this.

My car is a 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe 6 cylinder all wheel drive. Had an issue with the transmission continually dropping down a gear when keeping the car at about 35mph... no codes were showing nor any lights on the dash were on indicating a problem... dealer said the catalytic converter was the problem. changed it and it did not fix the problem...brought the car back to them and they said it now is showing a code and the service engine light is now on... the code showed that the Crank Sensor and the Throttle Position Sensor were bad... I asked why they had to change the cat and they explained
That they had to change the catalytic converter to get the correct "back pressure" so the computer would then recognize the actual problem and would direct them to the real issue... They assured me the cat was bad...in other words they had to change the cat out or they would not have found the problem... I think i got scammed and they really didn't know what they were doing and it cost me a bunch of money... is there any connection with the cat and those two sensors that could cause this scenario?
So I started hearing a noise that sounded like a telegraph clicking in random intervals. Some days, no sound while others I thought I was an old Western Union Office. Now the sound has progressed into a sound that almost sounds like a small compressor. It sounds at each start up and then at different points during the drive. I have traced it back to this device. It sits to the left of the Air return behind the glovebox. I have two pics to illustrate. It is the black box with a small wiring harness plugges into the top. On the left side there is a cylindrical white piece that is part of this device. Everything in my car works so not sure what this thing does. It looks like a royal pain to get out as one of the bracket screws is down in the back so that screw will be tough to get to without dropping the blower housing. That may require pulling more things like the dash when they replaced the evaprator.

The car just came out of the shop on Friday, after the alternator and battery were replaced. I don't recall it doing this before then. Is this... normal for a car that's just had the alternator replaced?
View 10 RepliesI have a 1999 toyota tacoma 70,000/mi. While idling, at random intervals, truck surges forward. Have to stay on the brake. Cannot drive in winter. Took to Toyota dealer and other mechanics... described problem and that A/C seems to be on all the time. No one has been able to fix. My brother disconnected the A/C and surging has stopped, but I need a better fix that will allow my using AC.
View 4 RepliesMy T-Mobile MyTouch with Android 1.6 OS paired fine as a phone and mp3 player. The mp3 player is less than perfect however.
1) When playing a track, the sound will stop for 1/2 a second at seemingly random intervals. It seems that it's more like the stream is being paused than the audio is just dropping out. I turned off all the auto-update features in the phone in case it was because the phone was checking for email or something. It still happens.
2) When I take a call, the music stops, the call happens, and when I hang up the music plays out of the phone. I can re-connect the Bluetooth audio manually on the Nav screen Audio option and it's back to the car again.
I have a 1991 Chevy Lumina and I believe this wire is the root of my problems. I
wasn't the one who unplugged it but it seems it was unplugged as an easy way to get around a problem. When unplugged the car runs but the performance is off, It doesn't feel like it has the same power as it does when it's plugged in and it also sounds different when in idle. When the wire is plugged in the car stalls while driving at random intervals between 1 and 10 minutes and needs to be jumped to start it back up. I will attach pictures of the wire and its location within the surrounding area.

I had diagnostic done at Autozone and no problems from check or OBD. The battery light has been coming on for a few minutes then going off at random intervals. Today I was towing trailer and quads, around 3500 lbs, to go riding and it was on most of the time running on interstate and highways.
Seems like the serpentine belt doesn't have as much tension as I would expect. Is there an easy way to change the serpentine? That looks to be a real pita.
Just got the girlfriend a 2002 Santa Fe and the front passenger door locking is a bit random! Sometimes it unlocks and unlocks ok from the key in the drivers door or the lock/unlock buttons, other times it half locks / unlocks (the lock button on the door panel half moves!) and other times it just ignores me all together! The cabling and cable boot from the body to the door seems in good condition (my audi A4 had that problem and you really dont wanna know about the wiring nightmare i had to fix that!!! bloody Germans!!). My feeling is that its a worn actuator.
View 2 RepliesI am the happy owner of a white 2005 Santa Fe 2.7l with 105,000 miles on her. Trying to figure out why the dashboard clock resets itself at random.It doesn't do it while I'm in it or driving. Only when I return to it when parked at a store or wherever, or mornings. The car seems to have plenty of juice when running. New alternator and battery were installed last November. Triple-checked those parts and cleaned some connections under the hood.
View 3 RepliesI have a 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe 3.5L V6 when i was driving a couple of days ago the check engine light flashed and after a while it stayed on the codes are P0300 which is a random misfire as well as a misfire in cylinder 2, 4 and 6
I replaced all 6 spark plugs and the 3 spark plug wires still the same issue. The car hesitates when accelerating when i accelerate it looks like it wants to stop the rpm goes to almost zero and then it moves and so on. the rpm goes up and down like crazy.
Sometimes it won't move past 1000 rpm I'm moving 60mph and still on 1000rpm and sometimes it works just fine like there is no issue at all. When idle the car is fine and everything seems normal it stays on 900rpm. The car has 158K miles on it.

I'm on a limited budget I'm thinking of changing the ignition coils but i want to make sure that's what is causing the problem first because i spent 200$ to change spark plugs and wires and the mechanic didn't fix the issue.
I've been having trouble diagnosing a loss of throttle at seemingly random times. Sometimes while driving, especially after driving for more than 20 minutes or so, I will experience a hesitation while on the gas pedal as if I have taken my foot off the gas. It makes it impossible to drive until I pull over and unplug my TPS and then I can drive fine in manual mode. Then the next day I can plug my TPS back in, drive around fine for a bit before the hesitation happens again and then I have to unplug the TPS again and drive in manual mode. It doesn't make sense to me why it takes a bit for this hesitation to begin and why unplugging the TPS and driving in manual mode seems to fix the problem.
I've recently replaced my crankshaft position sensor, idle air control valve, purge control valve solenoid and TPS. When I recently placed the TPS, the hesitation problem and another problem I've been having recently, a high idle in park, seemed to be fixed, but then the hesitation problem popped up again. When I unplug the TPS, the hesitation disappears and I can drive fine but the high idle in park problem is back! I'm suspecting some sort of wiring problem to the TPS. I just went on a 100 mile camping trip in manual mode no problem, but I can't be driving around forever with no TPS.
I am having a problem with my 2003 Santa Fe I have taken it to have the check engine light codes read and I have a code for the crankshaft position sensor, random misfires, something with gear 2 and 3 (not sure what it was exactly) it makes a loud noise when in 1st and 2nd gear when I shift out of 2nd the noise gets less and less until its gone and then does not come back until the car sits for a little while and cools down. Its running rough and does not have any power when accelerating. I had the timing belt changed a few weeks ago and it started running funny shortly after. I don't think the guy that did the timing belt knew what he was doing because I had to have someone go behind him and tighten the pulley.

My speedo is doing the same thing and I have been told it could be the VSS , the auto trans sensor, the vss sending unit. speedo gauge etc. Which sensor to start with or how to test ? I assume they are on the tranny cover which I have not looked at yet.

View 8 RepliesI travel on the highway frequently and when I am cruising at 115-120 km/h my gear consistently drops from 6th gear to 5th gear then back to 6th gear. I am not pressing hard on the gas just keeping it at a normal pressure. This is the 2016 Hyundai Santa Fe brand new only 6500km. I brought it to the dealership twice already and they found nothing wrong. Saying there are no error codes when scanned and when they drive it nothing happens.
On my second visit I showed them a video of what is happening. It was two minutes long and within the two minutes my gear down shifted 3 times. So you can imagine when I am long driving how many times this happens. In order to get around it I have to shift to tiptronic and leave it on 6 gear so I don't get this down shifting incident.
