Santa Fe (CM - 2007-12) :: 2010 V6 Can't Start / Clicking Noise With Dimming Lights

Jul 4, 2016

Our 2010 Santa Fe SE V6 just developed a problem where when we turned the key, the car wouldn't start, and there was a loud clicking sound during start attempt. Battery tested 100% OK.

This often points to a starter problem, but a telling symptom was than the headlights would dim, almost going out, along with the dash lights and most any other lamp. If it was just the starter, unless dead short, this associated dimming would not happen. I also put a volt meter on the battery and watched battery voltage during cranking attempt, and the voltage showed minimal drop, so once again the battery was not the problem.

Traced the problem to the ground strap from the battery which terminates to the driver side front wheel well. Two bolts hold the strap to the wheel well, and they are oxide coated and the contact point on the wheel well is painted. This means all the current returning to the battery is essentially passing through the bolt threads and cap where the oxide has been scratched enough to be conductive.

I sanded underside of the bolt heads to remove oxide, sanded the ground strap itself which seemed to have some sort of clear coating, and sanded the paint away from the wheel well where the strap makes contact. I didn't have star washers, but if I did they would have been a good addition.

Car now starts with no problem.

I am concerned with the possibility of corrosion under the strap where I sanded away the paint, but will monitor this. I think the contact between the strap and fender wall is tight enough with the two screws to seal out moisture and oxygen.

I am also going to locate and check any other chassis to engine ground straps so I don't have any new problems in the future.

Elantra MD (2010-15) :: Loud Clicking Noise And Lights Flash But Would Not Start

I have a 2014 Elantra, today it would not start, only loud clicking noise and lights flash. I moved gear shift to neutral same results, moved back into park same results. Do not think its a battery issue.

Santa Fe (CM - 2007-12) :: 2008 - Light Clicking Noise When Idling

Everything about my '08 2.7l Santa Fe seems/drives fine, but it always has a light clicking noise when idling and maybe even at higher revs. Is a little bit of this clicking normal or does the valve clearance need to be inspected and/or adjusted?

Truck has 1800kms on her, pretty much brand new but there is an odd clicking noise on the front drivers side wheel when I adjust the steering from left to right and vice versa. Its quiet if I am going straight, but it sounds like there is a linkage loose. Its not too loud or noisy, but having problems with tierods/knuckle assy?

Santa Fe (CM - 2007-12) :: 2010 - Reverse Lights Are Not Working

I recently noticed that both reverse lights on my wife's 2010 Santa Fe are dead.

It's odd that both bulbs would burn out at the same time. So I checked them and they're both good. The bulbs are not burnt out.

What should I check next?

I looked up the fuses in the owner manual, checked those, and everything looks good there. There is a relay as well. I swapped that with a similar relay in the fuse box, but that made no difference either.

I suspect it's the reverse switch on the transmission. Ours is a manual transmission. How to locate and access that reverse switch?

Santa Fe (CM - 2007-12) :: 2008 3.3 AWD - Clicking Noise Coming From Driver Side Front Wheel Area

I've got a 2008 santa fe limited 3.3 awd with about 170000 km on it. Lately when I brake I've been hearing a clicking noise coming from what sounds like the driver side front wheel area.

Had it in to my mechanic who checked the brakes and said that pads/calipers/rotors were all fine. They replaced the passenger side front bearing on the lower control arm a few weeks ago and said there is no play or noise coming from any other suspension components.

Where to look next? My mechanic isn't sure what it is so I was going to take it to the dealer and see if they can fix it. Also had new tires installed about a month ago

Where to begin looking for a ground problem (assumed to be the issue)

Camry :: Clicking Noise At Alternator, Warning Lights On, Car Won't Start

Have a 2011 Camry base 6 spd manual. Came out from work and won't start. Electrical cutting on and off. Turn key and only only light comes on with clicking. Get a jump and it starts but all electrical comes on and off for five minutes until engine dies. Now won't start with jump and just makes clicking noise at alternator with lots of lights on and off on the dash. Seems like a major short somewhere.

New battery seems a waste at 2 years old and probably not the problem.

Santa Fe (CM - 2007-12) :: 2010 - Remote Start Key Fob Not Responding

Recently my 2010 Santa Fe's remote start key fob is not acknowledging a response for any function on it and there is no blue light activating behind rear view mirror. I figure it has to be something fairly simple since it worked just fine last week. I have two remotes and when buttons are pushed I'm getting bright blue lights on both key fobs so I doubt if both batteries are bad, the factory key fob for door locks still works fine. I've read other posts and I'm aware that there is not many fans of the remote start feature. Its been -30 here in MB for far too long and I need this feature to work for me.

Santa Fe (CM - 2007-12) :: Dash Lights Flickering / Low Frequency Noise When Engine Rev

I have a very strange electrical issue and CarMax is unable to find the source.

Detail of issue: It started 2 months ago before i left the country i took my car in to get the dreaded valve gasket cover and alternator and after taking the car back i left for Europe for 2 months. I was informed after 2 weeks that my car battery died and had to be jumped.

When I returned home I notice the following issues

1) Alternator Whine in my Sound System
2) Low frequency noise synchronized with engine rev that was triggering the sub low end making a very distinct wooom.
3) Sudden Power Loss for my secondary AMP. The base would cut on /off.
4) Light flicker in my Dashboard (only the GEAR LED) and the entire climate LCD. flicker also synchronized with engine rev.
5) POWER drop on the air con fans while breaking (the RPM would drop)
6) I saw the headlights where also flickering at the same frequency with the LCD and dash led a very noticeable flicker.
7) my headlights would dim when breaking.
8) My Car would start a bit slower (not as instant as before).

Initially i thought it was the my secondary amp that was causing the issue. I took the car to a great Audio shop and they said the On board Hyundai amp was sending weird signals. They said it was broken and i should have it replaced. I told them to disconnect the AMP from the car and leave it disconnected until i take the car back to Carmax.

I was hoping that was the cause ... it wasn't the lights keep flickering (at a far lower intensity probably due to the lower power consumption overall).

What could cause all of this. Alternator I had the alternator replaced two weeks ago (apparently it was broken). I changed 3 alternators in this car. Valve Gasket, Valve Gasket(they were retarded and didn't listen to what i told them) and broken.

Santa Fe (CM - 2007-12) :: 2010 Takes A While To Start With Ignition Switch

I have a peculiar problem with my 2010 Santa-Fe 3.5L

Every now and again, and more often recently, when I try to start the car with the ignition switch, it cranks well, but doesn't, or takes a while to start. If, after trying to start it with no success, I give it a few seconds, I usually get it going, but not always instantly like it used to.

However, If I try to start it with the remote, it starts instantly, every time. What could be the cause?

Santa Fe (CM - 2007-12) :: 2010 - Random Clicks Before Engine Would Start Normally

2010 Santa Fe V6...about a week ago the starter started acting up. When you try to start the car, you would hear 3 clicks before the engine would start normally. The clicking is random and does not happen every time. The dealer could not find anything wrong other than the battery was reading 440CCA vs the 600CCA it was rated. Starter clicked first thing today on the way to local mechanic to get brakes replaced. They tested battery and it tested good. What could be the problem?

Santa Fe (CM - 2007-12) :: 2010 - Click Pop Noise Under Certain Conditions

2010 Santa Fe v6, AWD, 95K miles. New struts at 65K, new swaybar endlinks shortly after that.

VERY reliable overall (knock wood).

Last 5K miles or so Ive started noticing a "clickpop" under certain conditions. It sounds like the swaybar endlinks did when they started going - BUT it is different.

Let me explain:

The sound is not caused by road unevenness, or bumps at all. When the struts or swaybar endlinks go, its pretty easy to tell - as you can hit an uneven patch of road, or a certain type of bump and make it happen.

This "clickpop" sounds as if it is coming from just about under the brake pedal, on the firewall side of things. (Engine/undercarriage in that area).

I can make it do it by accelerating up to a "cruising along" speed - i.e. little throttle input (but not coasting down) and then either add throttle quickly, or back off totally. "Clickpop"

I have also been able to make it do it at a stop light - if the road is inclined (stopped uphill) and I add throttle then get off it. Clickpop. Its getting worse pretty noticeably in the past week.

Looking at things - all that makes sense to me is the motor mounts. There are apparently two - one on each side, and two "anti roll" mounts one front and back. If the anti roll ones were bad (esp the one on the back) it would seem to fit.

Santa Fe (CM - 2007-12) :: 2010 - Grinding Noise Coming From The Back

2010 SF Limited, about 46,000 KM.

Heard a grinding noise coming from the back of the truck today. First thing I thought to look at was the rotors. They looked warped/wavy and were really hot. I'm worried that the pads are used up and its metal on metal, really looks like rotor damage. I'm confused by this...

1) I get a safety inspection done every time i'm in for service (6km), no service rep has ever warned me about my pads.
2) Aren't squealers supposed to warn the driver of low pads?
3) Pads wear out faster in the front than they do in the back. How could the back pads be used up already? The front looks fine.

So if my back calipers are seized, or the e-brake line froze, then i'm driving with the back brakes engaged full time. This should not have happened to a truck so young. Do I have a warranty case here?

Santa Fe (CM - 2007-12) :: 2010 GLS 2WD - Starter Makes A Winding Noise

Today I think something went wrong with my starter. When I go to start the sante fe the starter makes a winding noise. Battery tested good and I ensured that the ground was clean and making a good connection.

I read about a TSB relating to a starter arm kit. I can't seem to find a part code or any info on the 2010 specifically having this issue.

Santa Fe (CM - 2007-12) :: 2010 - Noise From Front Right Wheel When Starting Out

Well, even though I love my 2010 SF SE I have had a few issues. I've had my power steering pump replaced twice and now I'm hearing a clunky/creaky noise coming from the right from wheel. I"m thinking it is a sticky caliper. It happens most frequently when I am just starting out from having the car parked for a while. When I put my foot on the brake and then release it I get the noise. It seems to go away after I have been driving a while.

Can't say I ever had this much trouble with my previous generation SF. Nothing major but annoying none the less. BTW I have just under 30k miles.

I have a 2010 Santa Fe AWD, I notice that when I apply the brakes at 100 KM or higher I hear a 'thumping' noise, the noise is hard to describe, thumping is the best I could come up with, the noise goes away once the vehicle is down to 80 KM, why this is?

Santa Fe (CM - 2007-12) :: Engine Start Up Noise For About 10 Seconds Or So

I recently purchased a 2011 Santa Fe SE with the 3.5 V6 Engine. When I start it up for the first time in the morning or after its been sitting for a few hours, the engine sounds likes it's insides are rattling for about 10 seconds or so... I believe the lifters are probably pumping up and it's a valve train noise... but is this normal? I don't like this sound. the previous owner used Mobil 1 synthetic oil and that is what is in there now. Is this a good choice for this engine? Is there an oil filter with a check valve that can be used to hold pressure to the valve train on start up? Is this cartridge type oil filter all that is used on these engines?
