Santa Fe (CM - 2007-12) :: No Start After Gas Tank Topped Up

Jul 22, 2012

I drive a 2007 Santa Fe and my car refused to start after the last the two times I topped up my gas tank.

I am confused and not sure what it could be? Ignition and lights come on, which makes me think it's not electrical. Car also starts up fine between gas station visits. Problem comes up only immediately after I top up. I am able to start up on the second try after I wait a few seconds.

Could I have a clogged fuel line or valve?

Santa Fe (CM - 2007-12) :: Empty Gas Tank Light Is On

Why my empty gas tank light would come on after I just filled up my tank? I filled up and left the gas station with the gauge showing a full tank. I drove home and parked. An hour later I left the house and the gauge showed empty with the empty tank light on.

Santa Fe (CM - 2007-12) :: Overheating - Coolant Leak / Reservoir Tank Empty

I was driving my 2008 Santa Fe last week (before I went on vacation) and noticed the the A/C wasn't coming through quite a cool as usual (almost felt like the vent was on w/ no AC). Then after about 10 minutes of driving I noticed the thermostat on the car get to about the 3/4 line pretty close to the red lines.

Luckily I was home so turned the car off and popped open the hood. I noticed the reservoir tank was empty and there was some coolant that dripped down on the fans & a small pool of coolant on the engine block right under where the oil is poured. (nothing has been dripping under the car)

I added a little coolant to the reservoir tank and the next time I turned it on and let it run for ~10 minutes, it was the same thing.

Anyway, I came back from vacation and opened the hood to try and identify exactly where the leak was, and ran the car for ~30 minutes, with A/C on full blast and the car didn't overheat or leak anywhere. Coolant tank was still full from when I filled it the first time.

What could have caused the leak/overheating in the first place?

Santa Fe (CM - 2007-12) :: Fuel Smell In Cabin If Fill The Tank To Full

I have a 2007 Santa Fe. If I fill the tank to full, or close to full I will have a fuel smell in the car until the tank runs under 3/4. If I keep it under 3/4 I usally do not get the smell in the car.

The dealer could not figure it out and I still have this issue. It seems the smell is more in the front of the cabin then the rear. It just could seem that way since the smell is very strong. I have to park the car with the windows open.

There are no fuel leaks, no fuel on the ground, no drips, and the no spillage when I filled the tank.

Prius V :: Oil Level Dropped - Engine Topped Off On The Dipstick

Up until my last oil change at 105,000 miles, I didn't notice any oil usage. When draining my oil, it didn't look like it was quite 4 quarts. After the oil change, I ensured that I had the engine EXACTLY topped off to the upper mark on the dipstick. Around 600 miles later, I parked in the same location and have noticed that the oil level has dropped enough to notice.

I am guessing that I will lose well over a quart between oil changes. Before I resign to the normal mechanical reasons (rings, cylinder wear, etc.), The loss doesn't seem to be gradual which has me looking for other explanations. I also had a Toyota mechanic go over the car and replace the other fluids and filters at 100,000 miles (coincidence I think ).

Gmc - Sierra :: 1996 - Battery Light On / Electrical Gauge Was Topped Out?

I went out to my 96 gmc k1500 this morning after auto-starting about 10 minutes before to let a/c cool the cab. It was running fine but when I got in I noticed the battery light was on and the electrical gauge was topped out past 19 into the orange. I turned the key into the "on" position and when I hit the brake pedal to put it into gear the engine started surging and then dieing down, back and forth (approx. between 500 and 1500 rpm) until it just finally died (lasted about 20-40 sec.). Ignition was still in "on" position but the electrical gauge returned to normal.

Tried starting it again and electrical gauge jumped right back up and battery light was still on but the engine didn't start surging again until I hit the brake pedal just like before. I'm going to guess my alternator/voltage regulator needs to be replaced but beyond that what else it could be. I'm not a mechanic by any means but I've managed to make minor repairs over the years myself following the Chiltons or Haynes manuals. I have a Hanyes manual for this vehicle but the troubleshooting section doesn't cover my problem specifically.

Santa Fe (CM - 2007-12) :: Car Won't Start When Using The Key

I have a 2010 Santa fe that will sometimes not start when using the key. The starter turns just fine but the engine won't fire up. However, with the remote starter it will always start.

The vehicle is under warranty for a few more weeks but the mechanic couldn't diagnose anything because it started just fine in the shop.

Santa Fe (CM - 2007-12) :: Car Won't Start / Horn Goes Off

I am having this giant problem with my 2008 Santa Fe. The battery died and I replaced it and I think that the security system is locking out from starting the car. Step by step of what happened:

1. Connected battery terminals

2. Horn goes off (continuously not beeping)

3. Try and start the car but it does not start. Doesn't turn over nothing at all but the interior and dash lights do work but it does not let me unlock the doors using the button (not sure if that means anything).

4. Pull horn fuse because it's waking up my neighbors.

At this point the car has been sitting for about two weeks, the battery is not connected and I'm really stuck. I've tried connecting the battery, locking the doors and letting it sit for 45 seconds and that didn't work. I replaced the battery in the key fob and that did nothing. My last step was to reach out here and honestly next would be to tow it to the dealer.

Santa Fe (CM - 2007-12) :: Car Won't Start When Hot After A 5 Minute Stop

Last Saturday and today, I drove the car to run some errands. When hot, I turned it off for 5 to 10 minutes. Then it wouldn't start, the starter was cranking strong but the engine didn't start. I tried for 15 minutes with the same result.

Then, I waited for the engine to cool for an hour, it started fine. Both times the temperature outside was around -25 Celsius.

The dealer says he can't do anything if can't replicate the problem. The car is Santa Fe V6 FWD 2011 with 44 000 km.

It has only happened 2 times so far. I understand it's normal when it's really cold outside. But it's still warm here. I booked an appointment with dealer next week but I want to knowledge myself before going. Can this be battery? Or starter? I remember there's a common problem on my model that a oil leak will damage the starter. Will that cause this symptom?

Santa Fe (CM - 2007-12) :: V6 Stumbles When Turn The Key To Start

I just bought a used 2007 Hondai santa fe. 65K. Loved it until four times when I turn key to start the car 'stumbles'. Dealer finds nothing wrong. What I notice today is I did not have my foot on the brake. My 11 yr old Subaru started w/o (not good I know) so I developed a bad habit. So now I wonder if this is not a problem but rather a safety feature and I need to always have my foot on the brake at start.

Santa Fe (CM - 2007-12) :: 3.3L V6 GL Doesn't Start On The First Crank

So for the last few weeks our 2007 3.3L V6 GL is having trouble starting (extended crank). Sometimes it's fine, but other times the engine just turns, so it takes 2 or 3 tries to get it to start.

Initially this seems like a fuel filter issue to me, but these fuel filters are "unserviceable", which I believe means they shouldn't ever have to be replaced (right?). I just had a servicing done at Midas, and they weren't able to tell me what the problem was.

The vehicle has 94k kms (58k miles) on it.

Santa Fe (CM - 2007-12) :: Remote Start Not Working

The 2012 SF I bought last weekend has a sticker on the radiator brace near the left head light stating the vehicle has a remote start function and there is a blue button with a key symbol on the fob that (I think) is supposed to make it work, but I have yet to get the remote start to operate. What's the secret? Is there a selection in the ECU that enables/disables it? Do I need to cross my eyes when I push the button? This would be great to have on cold or hot mornings - if I can get it to work.

Santa Fe (CM - 2007-12) :: Engine Turns Over But Will Not Start

Like the title says, the engine turns over but it doesn't start. Sequence is something like this:

Turn key to on.
Wait until all the lights and gongs have stopped.
Turn to start for 3 to 4 seconds.
No start.
Turn everything off and repeat 1 to 3 times.
It starts.
