When the temperature drops below -20 Celsius, I find the transmission shifts weird just after start up. It seems like it goes into second, then third normally, then abruptly drops back into second. I'm pushing very lightly on the gas pedal, so the drop down is weird. A couple times the nav was blank on start up.
View 8 RepliesI have a 2014 2.0T AWD Limited, now it's about 9000 kms so far with regular maintenance at dealer. Recently I have found the tranny is shifting a bit lagging, in particular shifting from 1st to 2nd gear. I didn't think it was like this when it was new, not sure if it's something wrong, or now I'm getting more used to the shifting and start complaining.
View 3 RepliesAbout a month ago, the Service Engine Light (CEL) came on and as a result there was a very slight delay in shifting and the Turbo did not engage at all. I brought it to the dealership for scanning. Error codes read as per work order:
P2562: Turbocharger Boost control Position sensor 'A' circuit
P2563: Turbocharger Boost Control Position Sensor 'A' Circuit range/performance
"The tech tested the pins and wires from the sensor to the PCM and all tested fine." Concluded sensor was faulty and ordered replacement part.
Once part was in, they performed the work to replace the sensor, test drove it and pronounced okay. By that same evening, the SEL came back on and the same symptoms developed. Brought it back the next morning and the same error codes came up. My dealership escalated the issue to the engineers with Hyundai and a couple of days later they replied with a possible solution.
From work order following:
"As per RO performed 11-20-007 Sonata Turbo EWGA inspection and adjustment form DTC P2562. Vehicle had under 4.1 V, adjusted rod from waste gate accordingly and road tested. Engine light did not come back on and vehicle operating normally".
I've waited a few days under normal driving conditions before posting and can state the the SEL has not returned and vehicle does indeed seem to be back to normal.
Apparently these symptoms are known for the 2.0T in the Sonata (i haven't verified this) which led the engineers to suggest checking the waste gate.
I have a 2013 F-150 Lariat 5.0 L, 6 speed auto transmission crew cab truck with 44,000 miles on it. Recently I have experienced problems with the transmission not shifting properly. Three times when I have started out of my driveway, it has shifted into 2nd gear while I am going only 2-3 mph up my driveway which is about a 10-12 degree incline. It stays in 2nd gear even if I stop. When I pull out onto the highway, it shifted normally into the remaining gears. Then, the other night as I was returning home, while traveling up the road, it shifted into 5th gear and stayed there even when it needed to downshift. A wrench i-con appeared on my screen, my odometer showed dash lines instead of mileage and my seatbelt i-con appeared. When I got home, I shut the truck off and restarted it and everything was normal again. I have driven the truck a couple more times with no issues. The transmission shifts normally. Could a sensor be going bad ?
View 2 RepliesI just got a 2004 hyundai santa fe 2.7l 2wd model with only 92k miles that I just bought off of Craigslist anyways when im on flat ground and cruising through town the transmission shifts perfectly. However when i went up an incline to get on the freeway it shifted hard around 40 mph but after i got back on flat ground again I got caught up in bumper to bumper traffic and once it cleared it shifted perfectly all the way to freeway speeds of approximately 70mph. Then after getting off the freeway and picking my friend up when i went to get back on the freeway (another incline) it shifted hard again around 40mph.
View 15 RepliesI am coming from a 2001 Acura CL-S which is a 5 speed automatic, and that car wouldnt' change gears that quickly. I understand cars today change gears frequently to be in the best gear for fuel efficiency?
But I feel like my ES350 changes gears so much, even at the slightest speed change. Is this normal -perhaps it's because I haven't driven a new car since my 2001, 12 years ago! Even the slightest press on the pedal will downshift the car and into the lower gear, even on ECO setting. On my Acura, pressing lightly on the accel pedal didn't result in a lower gear, as I know the engine had more than enough torque.
I also love reliability, and this makes me think the transmission would have a shorter life span with all the shifting. I still haven't asked my dealer about how often to do tranny fluid changes (which I know is a different thread altogether about discussions about "lifetime" fluid).
Overall, my wife and I like the car. It feels solid, and so far we have about 950 miles on it. Today though, something weird happened.
I was driving, and we were getting on the freeway after crossing an overpass, so it the on-ramp was one of those sweeping, downhill, 270 degree curves to the right. Nothing out of the ordinary.
So I let off the gas, and I'm taking the turn, and there was this "thump!" noise - almost as though the transmission was shifting. The car shuddered. Then it did it again.
It was disconcerting, almost reminiscent of our wacky dual-clutch transmission issues we had with our 2011 Ford Fiesta. Now granted, its a bit of conjecture since I don't know what could have caused it. I wasn't going quickly enough where any stability control mechanism (ESC) should have kicked in... so I'm not sure what else could have caused it. Undoubtedly I'll be testing it again to see if I can reproduce it, but its got me concerned.
Well something I never thought would happen with only 14,313 babied miles on my 2013 silver Elantra. I was driving home from my mothers house and I thought I hit a pothole, next I stopped at a stop sign took off and it started shifting very rough through most of the gears. I drove it around for 30 minutes and it was pretty bad. I decided to get it towed, I don't feel like breaking down in it.
View 12 RepliesMy son has a 2013 Fx4 crew cab 4X4 ecoboost with 8500 miles. He says in the morning for the first couple of miles while accelerating gradually the trucks shudders when shifting gears. After a few miles it goes away. Dealer says they can't do anything endless he can duplicate the condition. He went out of town for a few days and left me the truck so I'll drive it in the morning and see what it does.

It seems to be the 2-3 shift and is around 40km/h. Just normal acceleration from a stop sign. And just recently a new issue. It seemed like it got stuck mid-shift...
I was accelerating slowly from a stop and on the 2-3 shift the engine revved up above 3000 as if it was in neutral. I eased off the gas and then it completed the shift. My wife took it into the dealer today, but I'm worried they'll send it back as "unreproducible" as we've only had about 1 problem for every 10 hours of driving. We'll see what they say. As you can imagine, I'm not very impressed that we're having these issues before our first oil change...
Somebody mentioned that maybe there's something sticking in the transmission and it builds up enough pressure and then finally makes the shift. But I'm not a transmission expert by any means...
When I start the car for the first time of the day, the shifting is not as smooth as when the engine is hot. Is this normal ? When I checked the trans fluid, it was between 25 and 75...(the second little mark on the dipstick) but I just drove about 5min so maybe the engine wasn't warm enough..
View 6 RepliesA few weeks ago, my transmission (automatic) started rumbling while shifting from 3rd to 4th and 4th to 5th gear. Shakes the whole car, like you're driving over a rumble strip. Only when the engine is hot. I read online that I should get my transmission flushed and replace the fluid, but should I be expecting the thing to go or is this a normal hiccup for the Santa Fe?
View 5 RepliesWe have a 2010 Santa Fe AWD LTD with about 140, 000km on it. It recently came back from front suspension work. The suspension is fine now, but we notice harder shifts in the transmission. Also, there seems to be a vibration just before shifting gears and when under load (like going up hill) seems to slip (like on ice) about once every second until the shift is made. Once the shift is made it drive smoothly until put under pressure again. Even stepping down a bit on the accelerator will cause this slipping feeling (or maybe its loss of power). Just had new plugs put in and a tuneup so it's not that. Could something from the suspension work cause these symptoms?
View 29 RepliesA few years ago my auto transmission in my 3.5 L engine hyundai santa fe started shifting rough from 2nd to 3rd gear, i did a trans flush and changed the input output sensors, anyway last week it started again, so i just changed the input output sensors again, it did not fix the prob this time, do you think a flush would work.
View 4 RepliesI have a 2005 2.7L Santa Fe that was shifting poorly and getting stuck in limp mode intermittently. I read up on it and found that it was probably an issue with the input/output speed sensors. The codes confirmed my suspicions and I replaced both the input and output sensors. The codes cleared and the tranny shifted like a dream. Unfortunately after 2 days and 100+ miles the car suddenly started down shifting randomly on my way home from work. The CEL came back on and the car went into limp mode. Could the sensor have gone bad again? Or could it be the wiring harness that plugs into one of the sensors? I don't understand why the car would be fine for a few days and then all of a sudden be acting the same way.

View 18 RepliesThere is only one thing I don't like about our new SF. The transmission shifts from 4th to 5th gear at approximately 60 km/hr (36 mph +/-) and the rpm's drop to 1500 rpm. Now, when I want to speed up a tad (which is a frequent occurrence when driving around town), there is a pronounced hesitation before it drops back into 4th gear and accelerates.
In 5th gear at 1500 revs, I find that the engine is 'lugging' a bit. Yesterday, I started to compensate for this by changing to manual shifting as soon as the trannie shifted into 4th gear and leaving it there when I was traveling in that 60 kph speed area. For me, this is MUCH better and I quite like doing some of the shifting any way since I spent so many years driving manual transmission equipped cars.
How have others found the car to be when driving around town? Other than that, I really enjoy this car. Easily the most comfortable seats of any car I've ever owned --- their design provides terrific lumbar support and the new cloth material has a great 'feel' to it.
Just experienced something new in my less than a week old 2.0T. This morning was the coldest day since buying it (-15c). I had the block heater plugged in and it started up well. Let the engine run for my usual 30-40 seconds before putting it into gear. Reversed well, but was a bit slow shifting after putting it into 1st.
For the first 5 minutes or so of the drive, the shift were pretty rough. Mostly the shift between 1st and 2nd gear. Things got better after that and were fine for the rest of my trip and also an hour later when I came home.
Is this just a case of a very cold transmission and fluid, or is it something else? I've never owned a car that had such rough shifting in cold weather. Sluggish shifts yes, but not violent like these were.
Looks like transmission mount (driver side/ left) is leaking. I was under the car today, and i found the small dribble of a thick, slow moving, black fluid that didnt have any scent. it leaked down the unibody, onto a brake line(solid line) and even made a few droplets onto the rim and lower control arm.
I traced the leak to the bottom bolt of the transmission mount. i count believe it; but apparently Hyundai engineers opted to use hydraulic mounts versus the more typical solid rubber mounts. it honestly took me 10 minutes, with a flashlight, to check over everything. the ONLY place that the fluid came from was the lowest bolt of the tranny mount. i simply didnt want to believe it to be the tranny mount.
I called a couple dealers, and they all said that if i am the original owner, and i have the 100,000 mile warranty still in effect, its covered.

I'm working at summer camp with limited access to my mechanic and information on what i can do. I went to move my car today and when I put the car into reverse the shift was very stiff it went, and moved in reverse the same happened when putting it into drive. The vehicle drove fine the few feet i needed to go but then was sticky shifting into park. I thought I had it in gear all the way but i couldn't turn the vehicle off. I finally got it to turn off (I'm honestly not sure how) and so i tried to start it again to see if it was just a fluke thing... it wasn't. my car would not start. the radio a/c and basic lights came on but the engine did not. there was no clicking noises of anything. a friend and i tried opening up the hood to see if anything looked out of place of did something wrong when trying to start it but we didn't see anything.
View 1 RepliesI travel on the highway frequently and when I am cruising at 115-120 km/h my gear consistently drops from 6th gear to 5th gear then back to 6th gear. I am not pressing hard on the gas just keeping it at a normal pressure. This is the 2016 Hyundai Santa Fe brand new only 6500km. I brought it to the dealership twice already and they found nothing wrong. Saying there are no error codes when scanned and when they drive it nothing happens.
On my second visit I showed them a video of what is happening. It was two minutes long and within the two minutes my gear down shifted 3 times. So you can imagine when I am long driving how many times this happens. In order to get around it I have to shift to tiptronic and leave it on 6 gear so I don't get this down shifting incident.
