When turning the steering wheel slowly while from a stop or slow speed there is a grinding sound coming from the front end. It isn't very loud but you can also feel it in the steering wheel.
Is there a common thing/problem with these? I know there isn't a pump. There isn't any kind of a vibration or wobble at highway speed.
I've noticed several times, already my heated steering wheel will automatically turn off at random times.
During the winter months i keep it on almost all the time, but noticed occasionally it just shuts off, and even gives the message in the dash that the heated steering wheel is off.
Last time it happened, i was driving for about 25 minutes, at a stop light. Whats odd is its been on for 45-60 minute drives with no issues.
I don't even think it could be diagnosed by the dealer since I don't know what the trigger is.
My brand new 2015 Santa Fe Sport (limited) is making a "knocking" noise (emanating from the steering wheel / steering column?) when I turn right.

Fault will go away on some turns but is generally consistent and easily duplicated. Took it to the dealer and they are stumped as well -- follow up appointment next week.
Our '07 Santa Fe (3.3 L) has began making a terrible noise when turning the steering wheel. It is a deep, whining screeching noise that seems to come from the front passenger side of the car. It isn't a metal-on-metal sound, but is similar to the sound my old skid-steer loader used to make at work when the hydraulics were going out. It also seems to be worse when turning right.
At first I thought it was the power steering pump, but looking at some diagrams online it appears that the pump is to the rear of the motor.
The wife says that the sound seems to get worse after it rains. Saturday she drove into Austin to run some errands and when she got back home the sound was really loud. I drove it into town and after a while the noise went away. She says that the sound has returned, but not as bad as it was this weekend.
I recently bought a 2014 Santa Fe Sport 2.0T about a 3 months ago, and have since noticed a couple issues that have come up with it. First was with a squeaking front suspension, but that was fixed by simply lubricating the sway bar bushings.
The second is that the steering wheel seems louder than normal when turning left/right at low speeds, mainly when parking, it sounds like two pieces of paper rubbing against each other right behind the steering wheel like a dry noise.
I test drove another Santa Fe before getting mine for about a week and didn't notice this issue. Is this a normal sound that eventually develops after having the Santa Fe for a while? I'm like at 3,600 miles.
On a recent trip to the service dept, I mentioned that the steering wheel makes a loud clicking noise anytime it's turned, the service guy said "it's normal and supposed to do that it's a spring"... Really? I find it hard to believe that Hyundai would make us listen to this annoying sound all the time.

To be clear, I do not have to turn the wheel much at all but it has to be turned to keep it straight. I had Lexus do a 4 wheel alignment yesterday and it did not work at all. Is this normal ?

When my vehicle is stopped or in motion at low speed, if I turn the steering wheel, I hear a knocking out at the sound towards the front of the vehicle. How concern should I be?
How to turn this off? I managed to turn off the driver's side auto-slider but can't figure out how to turn off the steering wheel portion. I'm not a big fan of the entry/exit assist. I kind of feel that all that movement will wear out the motor over time. Perhaps I'm just being paranoid.

I have checked the Power steering fluid and it seems fine but I did add a little. I am going to wait a little time to see if the additional PW fluid works.

My 2010 Wolfsburg Tig makes rubbing noises when I turn the wheel but not moving. The noise sounds from the wheel shaft. The noise goes away when the car is moving. What's noise? Is it a normal noise for Tig?
View 6 RepliesI own a 2009 Scion tC, has about 70k miles on the car. I am experiencing a squeaky noise when turning the steering wheel left or right, as well as accelerate and braking. A friend and I jacked up the car, listen to the noise while the engine was running. We were able to duplicate the noise and it seems like its coming from the tie rod area, inner tie rod that is connected to the rack and pinion. Do it needs to be greased? keep in mind that for my car, i will have to replace the whole tie rod, can't grease it because it doesn't have a Zerk fitting. Also, when i push down on the passenger side fender, the squeaky noise reappear. noise is coming from passenger side. This has been going on for about 2 months now.

View 4 RepliesOk I changed the 2 front struts on my Santa Fe. And the strut mounts. Rides alot better and no shimmy in the wheel but I noticed a knocking noise when turning the wheel sharp. What I have come to find out the top of the spring it turning the whole cup or top hat it sits in. I put the cup in the right spot because there is a flat spot on the thread of the the strut.
View 13 RepliesMy parents have a 2007 hyundai santa fe AWD and recently there is this creaking noise from the front end when you have the car in reverse and you're foot on the brake and turn on the wheel, I had someone in the car and I stood outside it sounds like its coming from the center of the wheel near the hub it has that sound like a rusty door hinge, is there a problem with front wheel bearings on these cars we had the two rear ones replaced under warranty because of a humming thrumming noise and now there is a humming thrumming noise again but hard to tell if front or rear and the tires are in good condition no cupping.
Is there an easy way to check the hubs on these cars besides the normal move the tire up and down for play. By the way the car has 105000 kms on it...
Recently on my gen 6 with about 68k miles I have noticed a very pronounce noise when turning the steering wheel whether the car is stationary or in motion. It makes a loud creaking/popping noise and it cant be heard from outside the car. The noise happens no matter which way I turn the steering wheel. I know Toyota has had problems with their intermediate steering shafts.

When I turn the ignition in my car, it makes a very loud noise at the front of the car. This goes away after about 3 seconds, but when I turn the wheel to either side, it makes a very high screeching sound. This persists until I've been driving for a few minutes then it goes away.
I hesitate to say the following, but it also feels as if my steering wheel is a bit "harder" to turn, but maybe it is my imagination. What it could be? I checked power steering fluid and it is at normal levels.
A few weeks ago I noticed a 'clunk' noise when turning the steering wheel. It only did it the first turn on a trip. Over time it has gotten worse - the sound is the same, but it happens for several turns, maybe 10 or so, before it stops. After the car sits, turned off, for a while, the cycle starts again.
I replaced the rubber coupler on the MDPS, but my old one looked fine, and it made no change in the noise.
