I noticed a rust spot near my passenger rear wheel well. Not really sure how I got the damage or where it came from. I don't walk to that side of the car as often so I'm not sure how long it's been there. I can't feel on the other side as there is another panel on the other side so I don't know if it is rusted all the way inside.

It's very ugly, It has very heavy surface rust, the car is 2011, I don't remember seeing this much damaged when I purchased the car last winter. I took it to the dealership, they said they cant change it because it is purely aesthetic and the components still work.
I'm researching rust proofing, but that seems more like a preventative action than a remedy, what can I do, it really annoys me every time I look at it. I don't know why Hyundai chose such poor material inside the wheels that rusts so easily. I have compared it to other Sonatas I see on the street, mine is a lot worse.
My car has many new dents and scratches (Got some scratches on my hood due to my awesome snow scrapper, and a mysterious new dent on my bumper that I saw after I washed some salt off). Anyway scratches I can deal with. It's just this bit of rust that's bothering me. It's on the rear driver side window pane.
View 6 RepliesI have noticed several times when leaving my driveway (backing out OR driving out) that it feels like I have a flat spot in my passenger front tire. The first couple times I pulled over to check the tire pressure to make sure it was ok, and it was. It doesn't happen every day, but I have noticed it 4-5 times in the last 5-6 weeks. I was talking to a guy from work and he has the same issue.
View 9 RepliesThis is kinda hard to describe but here it goes. I have a 2012 Turbo with 33K miles which I have owned since new.
Like I said, it is hard to explain but it seems like the steering wheel has a dead spot when driving. Feels like you have a magnet between the steering wheel and the column. As you are driving, it seems like you overcompensate trying to keep the car in a straight line. Asked the techs at the dealer twice already and they say this is normal for being electric.
Gotta tell you, on long rides feels like I just flew an old C-47 (DC-3) for ten hours straight!
I got a small rust spot on a corner of the hood of my car (5 months old). The 3 year/36,000 mile paint warranty included with the purchase of the Elantra should take care of this, correct? It's small so I was gonna sand it down myself and use a touch-up pen, but now having second thoughts. Should I take it to the dealership instead?

View 15 RepliesRust proofing the rear wheel well: I was trying to rust proof/coat the rear wheel well and surrounding area to make sure i get the bolts under it. Back of the car is where most of the salt sits as the undercurrents with wind tend to drive the salt deep in the quarter panels and around tank area. I wanted to confirm if these cars still have the wheel well bolt securing the bumper to the quarter panel with a rust prone steel bolt.
When weather gets better i'll take to get sprayed somewhere. But for now i wanted to leave something on it of a coat after a good cleaning. Hate dam salt or whatever they are using these days.
I also noticed that the SE's wheel well internal sheathing was much stronger looking, solid than what's on my LE - a felt type material. Besides the wheel well rim on SE has a band of silicone type substance overlaid on it. Right?
I have a 07 Sonata 2l crtd, Its been running fine for about 6 years, But for the last couple of months, when setting off gently, as it reaches approx 1400rpm, I get a blip/hiccup/flat spot/miss. It ONLY happens at 1400rpm, and irrespective of what speed I am doing.
For example, as above, (setting off) but also, if cruising gently at approx 50mph ( which equals approx 1400rpm) then it does it again. It only does it at 1400rpm.
Also (maybe related) the orange engine warning light has now come on ( twice in past 2 weeks ) it stays on for a day or so,,,then goes out. its not flashing.
I got pics, will upload as soon as I'm off work. But anyways, there's a small rust spot on the drivers side hinge, as well as a small spot on the passenger side rear door hinge. It seems rather hard for me to believe considering I'm the guy who periodically washes their car, and waxes all the door jambs and under the hood.

View 2 RepliesI've been hearing a popping noise occasional when reversing into a parking spot for about a year no, its like 3-8 pops each time. I looked at the CV joints and the rubber hosing is intact. I am pretty sure this particular noise now is not ball joints squeaking.
How long can I let this slide without replacing. Is the CV joint sold as one whole piece?
BTW I'm checking out the 2013 Sante-Fe....
2007 Sonata SE, 74,000 miles
Just took the car in for brake service (not the dealership) because of what I was convinced was a brake pad sensor warning sound - something I've heard with other cars I've had, and been correct about. However, the tech said the pads were fine.
The sound is a high pitched squeal, intermittent, coming from the passenger front wheel. It can be heard when coasting at moderate speed (30 mph or so), not so much when accelerating, and especially when turning left. It got worse today, with a low grinding sound at moderately slow braking speed that started after about two hours of start and stop driving (house hunting). The car has needed a couple re-alignments and will have to get checked for possible camber? adjustment (rear tires wore badly on outside edges, far less pronounced on front tires). Car has tendency to pull to the right.
Any thoughts on a main culprit here for the squealing-grinding noise or about the possible inter-relatedness of symptoms.
My sonata 2009 power windows for the rear passenger doors are not working. From the driver's master switch , i can control all 4 power windows with no problem. But if i go to the rear doors (LH and RH) and use the power window switch from there. The windows don't go up or done. There is no sound like the motor is moving. Not very familiar with power windows circuit. But base on the description, by deduction, does it mean the rear power windows switch is broken ? Is there anything that i should check also. Is there any sites that has a diagram on how the power windows are interconnected.
View 6 RepliesMy daughters 2010 Sonata has a occasional problem that is very disturbing. When she is slowly pulling into a a parking spot or into her garage, the car will make a lurch forward. Just a quick acceleration and then back to normal. So far she hasn't damaged anything but its just a matter of time. She has taken it to a neighborhood independent garage.
View 14 RepliesMy 05 Caravan is in excellent shape with only 40k miles and noticed rust and paint bubbles only on the lower front side of the rear wheel well (drivers side). I live in Pa and wash the car after snow storms. Of course the car is out of rust warranty and the dealer said they can repair it but they do not know what causes it. I have seen this exact problem on other caravans and I have been told it is were the two pieces of metal are joined together, the wheel well seam, which causes the problem. We sealed the seam last fall with silicon when it was just paint bubbles and now it has gotten worse. My thinking is either we need to go back and look at the seam again as we only sealed the section that looked open or there is a leak from somewhere else in the van - the gas cap area or the area on the frame when the door is open is suspect to me. Basically I am asking if there is anywhere else I should look for this leak besides the wheel well seam?
View 7 RepliesThe chirping sound happens when I go over bumps but not all the time. If I take a short little ride to the store at low speeds it won't happen but as soon as I get driving in the city or on the highway it sounds like a bird on crack back there, really loud as I go over any type of bumps. I searched and learned that it could be the wheel rubbing the caliper but its not that. There is nothing leaking back there and no visible signs of damage or wear. Brakes have plenty of pad left and rotor is good, i check the tire well also and everything is tight.
View 2 RepliesI recently parked my 2001 Accent for the past year and now the rear passenger side wheel won't move. I'm assuming it has seized. I am trying to open the drum for the rear wheel but am not really sure how. The wheel is removed so is the Bolt locking the drum in place. Should it now just pull off? I have a read that it is possible the emergency break is whats causing it to seize up. How does one manually removing the parking break lock ?
