I am a proud and recent owner of a 2015 Sonata Sport 2.0T!
Car looks amazing and am very happy with it.
But lately I have been noticing lots of drone noise coming from the engine, and a really loud cold start as well. The "cold start loudness" goes away after a little bit of driving.
Was wondering if this is just the way the 2.0T sounds, or should i get it checked?
2006 Sonata 3.3 V6 with 101,000 miles. At a cold start there is a loud whining noise coming from the engine on the passenger side. After the car warms up the whining goes away. The car has not had any noise before. It is progressively getting worse.
View 7 RepliesMy 2009 Sonata 2.4l Sonata has been making a loud knocking noise when it is cold, but it will fade to almost nothing after it warms up. I tried to make a sound clip of the noise, but it was so distorted that I could not even make out the noise on the video.
For some strange reason the noise matches the skipping problem I have been complaining about since the beginning. Yea it's still there. It sounds like it is in the valve system, not the lower end. It leads me to believe it's coming from the valve clearance/ camshaft area.
Been driving my Sonata 2015 2.0t for about 14 months, now. Just turned 13.5k miles. I had first noticed this issue a few months into having the car, but didn't think anything of it. At the time, I wasn't spending much time in the upper end of the rev range. Today, I finally decided that it bugs me enough to investigate.
At WOT, starting around 5500 rpm and going until redline, there is a "raspy" sound coming from the motor that I think might be predetonation, but I'm not sure. It isn't very loud, which is why I originally ignored it, but it is easily noticeable inside the car. I've made some modifications in the past few weeks (Intake, OCC, and Exhaust) so I'm starting to have a bit more fun with the car and want to make sure I get this resolved before it becomes a bigger issue.
Out of curiosity, I looked inside the catch can and noticed a couple drops of fluid (lighter in color), which was surprising since I only installed it ~50 miles ago. Any by "a couple drops" I mean maybe 3mL of fluid. Not sure if that is significant in this case, but I figured it is worth mentioning.
I'm wondering if it could just be the altitude (Denver, CO) and the stock tune is off just a bit? I've been looking into the Lap3 Uncle Chip and HKS performance plugs, but am hesitant to go any further without better understanding what might be happening.
I've a loud squeaking sound coming from the front of the engine on cold start. This only happens when I start the engine after overnight parking . There are no squeaks when the engine is warmed up or when I start up with a warm engine.
I'm driving an 07 Camry and live in a region with hot tropical weather.

What could be the probable cause of the this and how do I rectify it?
There is a loud ticking noise coming from an undetermined location in the engine compartment (sounds more like behind the motor). It starts on cold-start, lasts approximately a minute or so until the engine heats up. Driveability doesn't seem to be affected, and the engine doesn't have any additional weird symptoms. Some other VW owners have suggested changing the cam belt and tensioner to fix this problem, but the car has only just turned 45K miles and can't imagine that it would fail so quickly.
View 3 RepliesNoticed that when drive Sonata cold without having it warmed up and you hit the accelerator even a little bit that it 'jerks' back a bit? Once the car is warmed up you don't feel it anymore.
View 11 RepliesWhat is this metal on metal noise...you hear it the best around the 7-12 second mark...it is especially loud on cold start in the morning when you put the car in "drive" but don't move the car forward. It also is prevalent on hot days when you park the car outside and just start the car. The sound gets louder when you turn on the a/c during the hot day.

I get a loud noise from the rear of my 2005 Subaru Outback, 67k miles.(No it's not my dog Pete)Starts as a WHOP, WHOP, WHOP that speeds up as the car speeds up 'til it's a loud drone at cruising speed. I thought it was older tires but changed those Saturday. No effect.
View 1 RepliesI have a 2015 Sonata 2.0T limited, and there is a noise coming from the back, driver's side, after shutting off the motor. I've taken it in 3 times for this, and each time they say nothing is wrong; but, I've driven a lot of cars and trucks, and I've never heard a noise like this.
I'm guessing it's some kind of gas tank related valve that's closing, but it's making a very loud noise each time.
I cant recall if these sounds were there when i first bought the car, probably because i have the radio on most times. I think the buzzing sounds were present in the last month at least.
After i start up my car and even after idling for a while, i hear a buzzing sound coming from the engine. It gets louder when I accelerate. When I let go of the gas, the buzzing sound lags for a few seconds and then quiets down a little bit, but still can hear it in the background.
I lifted the hood up to listen more closely. I am not totally sure, but i think i can also hear a faint hissing sound ( sounds like leaking air?). I cant pinpoint where it is, but its around the engine.
I also notice that when I am idle, the MPG number in the dashboard is dropping fairly quickly. Like 0.1 mpg every 20 seconds. This is new and started today. I last drove it 4 days ago and didn't notice it happening then and i watch the mpg very closely every time i drive. Could there possibly be some gas leak?
I have a 1998 F-250 LD 4x4 with 462,000 km. I have been hearing for some time quite a drone coming from the rear axle. I am guessing the wheel bearings are due, as both front ones have been replaced, but never the rear. More about the noise, I hear it come to life as I gain speed. The faster, the louder. If I decelerate the noise is still present, but volume significantly decreases. Should I change the oil and friction modifier and see if there's an improvement or go ahead and change both bearings too?
View 7 RepliesWhen I shut the car off and just sit in the car, I hear a very odd tapping noise coming from the dash to the left of the steering wheel. It taps 3-4 times, stops for 20 seconds, and taps again 3-4 times. This process repeats a few times and then stops completely. What on earth could it be? I'm thinking its a bad relay or perhaps the car is possessed. I'm not sure I could reproduce for the dealer.
View 15 RepliesI just bought my brand new 2015 Hyundai Sonata 2.4L SE 3 weeks ago and have put 4000kms on it so far and from last week I am getting a rattling noise from just behind my steering wheel while going over washboard surfaces every time. Feels like something plasticy is loose around the upper steering column which rattles every time I go over a washboard surface. My university campus has a lot of rumble strips to slow cars down and that is where I noticed this noise very clearly.
I have taken my car to the local dealer and the mechanic there have acknowledged the problem after comparing the noise with a new car there. He tightened some bolts around the lower steering rack apparently but the problem is still there. He says to bring the car in after the problems gets significantly worse because it is still not severe enough for him to diagnose it and find what is causing it. I do not know much severe I need to the let the problem get before they do something about it. The dealership still has the ticket open for me; I will probably try to visit them next week again.

Experiencing a metallic click or something alike when coming to a full stop?
I've notice this new noise and it seems to happen about 0.5 seconds after the car has come to a complete stop, not during the stopping. It only happens when stopping at a red light, and it doesn't do it on stop and go traffic.
It also doesn't seem to coincide precisely with applying the brakes because is AFTER the car has stopped, again, in less than a second. I hope that makes any sense.
It happens maybe 25% of the time but, then again, if I go to the dealership I'll probably won't be able to reproduce it.
I can hear a drone at freeway speeds coming from the engine compartment of my 99 Passat 1.8. I don't know whether this is normal, but it seems like the down pipe has a resonance/vibration. How to reduce this? Test pipe? Header wrap? Or is there something wrong that I have this buzzing?
View 3 RepliesCar has been running rough for a few days. Last night my engine light came on p0017. Called the dealer and they couldn't get it in until Monday. They said if the light wasn't flashing just bring it in then. So I disconnected the battery for a few minutes and the car started much smoother and the light went off. Drove into the city and once I got to my destination the light came back on and the car was running rough again. Decided to finish up and head home. However once I got in to make the drive home I could now hear a rattle when I accelerated coming from the engine. Then the oil light would come on every time I hit the gas to accelerate. I made it home as slow as possible but when I checked the oil it's not even reading on the dip stick and the dip stick smells burnt. No oil on the floor, oil filter and plug shows no leaks. I have noticed the past few weeks that my exhaust tips are dirtier than usual and black drops were all over the rear bumper and back of the trunk. Could this thing really have blown out that much oil. I just changed the oil less tHan 1000 miles ago.

I've experience this one twice, a few weeks apart: cold start the car, and in the first 100 yards or so I'll hear a tapping noise that's clearly rotational, varies with speed but eventually ceases. Sounds like it's coming from front passenger wheel well area, and sounds like a stick or some sort of debris is stuck in the wheel. Both times I've inspected the area and found nothing whatsoever.
I live in an apartment complex area, park in a lot always in reverse so I'm always going from park to drive. The area I live in is wooded ("Pine Barrens" region of Long Island) but the roads are paved so it's not like I'm driving thru wilderness.
I ask this because when on the hwy (60-70mph) you can feel some vibration in your hands. I can let the steering wheel go and it won't move a bit but when hands placed on it you can definitely feel the road, including bumps, and regardless of road conditions. Tires where balanced at 7500mi but it still happens. Regardless of temperature or PSI in the tire.
I thought we had electric/electronic steering and no hydraulics? Maybe unrelated but, when turning in my driveway, very slow, I can hear a slight clicking (maybe rubbing) noise coming from the steering wheel column. Everything else has to be silent to be able to hear it.
I have a 2009 Sonata (4 cyl) with 110,000 miles.I have a loud roaring noise coming from my right front end. Jacked car up several times, all seems very tight and wheel spins smoothly. This has been going on for over 5000 miles and I have been waiting for the ailment to show its self more clearly in order to diagnose. sound does not change when turning in either direction or breaking. sound increases with speed and is quite loud at 55mph. Had to replace a tire and put it on the right front to see if it was tire wear and there was no change. sounds like loud road noise.
