Sonata I45 (YF - 2011+) :: A/C Won't Cool Properly And Gives Off A Funky Smell At A Stop

Oct 10, 2016

I have a 2011 Sonata and have issues where my A/C won't cool properly and gives off a funky smell when I'm at a stop. Then it continues cooling when I drive at speeds.

I am going to the dealership for a steering clicking noise as well and was wondering is it worth telling them this problem too or should I go to an independent shop? My car is at 99,000 miles and I know A/C isn't part of powertrain.

Sonata I45 (YF - 2011+) :: 2014 - AC Turn On To Full Capacity And Wait Several Minutes For Cool Air

My 2014 Sonata GLS has definite air conditioner problems. It takes some time for it to get cold. I had no problems with my 2011 Elantra - I never had to turn the air conditioner to its highest level. In addition, it cooled almost immediately. However, I have to turn on the Sonata's air conditioner to full capacity and wait several minutes before I get some cool air. When it's 95 degrees out here in Florida, a few minutes can seem like a long time.

Haven't had my car checked yet.

Lexus GS 2013+ :: Funky Smell From Driver Seat

I purchased my car second hand. I don't know if the previous owner was a big, sweaty dude who didn't take showers but....after driving in my car for certain periods, I get a funky body odor from the seat.

I sprayed vinegar/water onto the seat, let it stay and wiped up. I wonder if there's bacteria forming on the seat heat/cooling source?

Lexus ES 2007-12 :: Funky Smell Coming From The Vents

I noticed a bit of funky smell coming from the vents when I first turn on the AC and after turning off the AC. So I am trying to locate the air conditioner evaporator drain hose and make sure it's not plugged.

Elantra MD (2010-15) :: Funky Smell From Vents When Driving With AC Off

I've been having this funky smell from vents lately. It doesn't exactly smell foul or corpse-like, but rather more of an old unwashed sock....

The smell seems to come out after a bit of driving with the AC off. When I turn it on, it goes away after a little while.

This has been happening everyday, and I'm thinking that it's condensation, or maybe I just need to change my filter... Is there a way to get rid of this smell without changing anything?

I've read that I can spray Lysol at the bottom of the dash board (where the driver's and passengers feet are) with the AC on at the coldest setting with the recirculate button on. Doing that will flush out the vents and kill whatever is in there.

Sonata I45 (YF - 2011+) :: Not Connected With Bluetooth Properly As No Notification Sound

We just got our iPhones the other day and just set them up to connect to the car via Bluetooth. While the call features work great, all of the other sounds from the phone are completed muted when connected. No text message or any other push notification sounds can be heard at all from both the phone and the car's sound system.

Golf IV / Jetta IV :: 2000 VR6 GTI Misfire / Funky Smell Kind Of Like Burning Oil

My 2000 vr6 gti been starting too act up. After about an hour or so of driving the ride gets rough , loses power and it makes this knocking noise . Although when I punch the clutch in the knocking goes away . Besides the knocking going away the rides still pretty rough though . Once it starts this it starts too backfire way louder than it usually does and it throws out this funky smell kind of like burning oil /syrup smell lol .

I really wanna fix the car . When the car does drive good it's no complaints at all . I do know that I have a misfire in cylinder 3 & 4 though and I do have all the codes scanned from the obd2. I've heared of this being the throw out bearing but I'm not completely sure. There's a video to actually hear it. [URL] ....

Lexus RX 2004-09 :: Major Water Leak - Carpet Wet / Funky Smell

My car has wet carpet, particularly in the passenger footwell and I have also noticed on the driver's side as well. My car did have a funky smell quite a few weeks ago, but after a couple of weeks of good strong sunlight and heat that smell went away. At the time I thought maybe some water had spilled and it just needed to dry up.

Yesterday we had a bucket full of rain. Quite heavy and strong. I didn't notice anything yesterday when I got to my car as it was still raining. However this morning I found that the smell was back (that wet carpet / mouldy smell) and I had a few minutes before the next train arrived. I checked quickly and found that the passenger side (in Australia it's the left side of the car facing forwards) carpet had a small wet patch.

Anyway got home after work and proceeded to find out what might be causing the problem. I dismantled part of the passenger side and lifted up the carpet and found that all underneath (the padding / noise proofing) was soaked wet.

I removed the plug that normally sits there and the amount of excess water from that plug to the garage floor was more than I was expecting

** Drain Plug **

I asked my wife to point a hose at the sunroof to see if I could spot where the water was coming from. I noticed that just underneath a big electrical bank sitting just above the carpet, water was basically running out of this hole.

** Close up of the hole where water is pretty much running straight through, basically someone turned a tap on and it just leaks straight into the carpet **

As you can see the closeness to the wiring is dangerously close.

I tried to see if the sunroof holes were blocked and they looked okay. I took some whipper snipper string and tried to feed it down the sunroof holes, but alas did not see where this would come out. I tried searching under the car, but couldn't find the spot where the water would normally drain out. The string went in and I fed it through, but eventually I hit a block somewhere but I don't know if this is a problem or just the string couldn't twist to get where it needed to.

I need to find out why there is water spilling into my cabin at the footwell. This has started to ruin my carpet and getting into the car with that smell surely isn't good for my or my family's health. Where this is meant to be draining out underneath the car? How do I fix this leak without spending a fortune?

Sonata I45 (YF - 2011+) :: After Replacement Of Battery Distance To Empty Won't Working Properly

I replaced the battery in my 2011 Sonata. After the install I reset the radio, clock etc. and everything seemed to work fine electronically. The car was very low on gas and when I filled it later that same day the "Distance to Empty" display in the dash only read 271 miles after fill up. Typically when it is filled it reads 550+ to empty. After three tank fulls the display now reads 375 when filled up. Is there a reboot for this function? Does it have to be done by a dealer?

Volvo - S60 :: AC Not Working Properly / No Cool Air After 20 - 30 Minutes

When I first get into my car, the AC works and the fan will move the air. However, after 20-30 min., the air is no longer cooling and I can barely feel the fan blowing the air and I have touched neither the thermostat control nor the fan. The AC will not put out cool/cold air with the fan at the same position until after the car has been turned off for at least 10 min.

Avalon 2005-12 :: 2007 Limited - Driver Seat Just Does Not Seem To Cool Properly

I have an '07 Avalon Limited with the heated/ventilated front seats. The drivers seat just does not seem to cool properly, and what the problem might be. Occasionally when I put my hand on the seat I can feel a tiny amount of air blowing through the perforations, but most of the time it's not nearly enough to cool through a pair of jeans, and I can't even tell that it's on.

Sonata I45 (YF - 2011+) :: Strong Smell Of Gas In Oil

I was checking my oil the other the other day and it has a pretty strong smell of gas. The car has 2700 miles and still on the original oil. I drive about 20 miles to work one way and don't make a lot of short trips. I checked tho oil when the car was new and didn't notice the smell. Whats going on? Is this normal for a GDI engine? I will take the care in this week to talk to the service manager but wanted to get some input before i went in.

Sonata I45 (YF - 2011+) :: Silicon Smell When AC Comes On?

The past few days when I turn my car on and the before the AC comes on (I leave it on Auto) I get a smell like Silicon Caulk coming through the vents. I notice my AC doesn't actually light up until a few minutes on my Auto setting. It is usually 90+ degrees outside and I have the Auto set in the low 60's. After about ten minutes it will finally kick on and blow cold air.

Sonata I45 (YF - 2011+) :: Gas Fumes Smell In The Cabin

Well I started smelling Gas fumes in the cabin of my 11 GLS. The smell was intermittent for about a month now. Then last weekend it started getting bad. I found it only smelled when pulling fresh air through the HVAC, so it had to be under the hood. Pulled the engine cover to find the foam backing was soaked with gas. Started the car and could see the Hard fuel line dripping.

I saw from other post on the forum that this tube has one time use fitting on both ends and that a special tool is needed to torque the fittings. Dropped it off at the dealer yesterday and they are replacing the line today.

I tell you all this because the Dealer said that their records show my car had the short block replaced at 24000 miles. When replaced they probably didn't torque the line correctly causing it to leak.

The question I have is, Should I be more or less worried about the bottom end of this engine now that I know it has been replaced? The car has 44000 miles on it now.

Sonata I45 (YF - 2011+) :: Exhaust Smell Inside Car

My 2011 Sonata smells like exhaust inside the cab of the car unless I keep the button pushed for "inside air circulation".

I called the dealer and as it turns out, this is a common problem with this model. A hose has to be replaced on the exhaust system.

I knew I was smelling exhaust and also knew there was a problem with the car/exhaust!

Sonata I45 (YF - 2011+) :: Fuel Smell From Engine Bay

I was one of the many lucky ones to have my engine stall on me, and just had the replacement put in back in April. Drove the car from San Diego to Phoenix, and everything was fine.

A couple of weeks ago, I noticed some gas vapor fumes coming into the car usually during the initial start up, and then the smell would go away.

I read some old threads from 2011 about the pcv hose causing this issue for many owners, so I replaced both the valve and the hose. This hasn't solved the issue, and when i run the vehicle and inspect under the hood, the fume smell is still coming from that vicinity.

Is there some other valve nearby that i should inspect or replace?

Subaru - Outback :: 2011 - Fumes / Smell Like Exhaust When Come To A Stop With Heater On

Why when I come to a stop with the heater on, the car smells like exhaust? I took in into our local Subaru shop and they couldn't find anything wrong. When I'm driving it's fine, but in town or in traffic, I have to keep shutting off the heater. If I forget, the car fills up fumes and I have to drive with the windows down or my daughter's asthma flares up.

Sonata I45 (YF - 2011+) :: Musty / Molded Smell From Air Vents

I few weeks ago noticed musty smell out of my air vents but didn't mind it thinking it something temporary. Mind you that this only occurs when i have just the fan running without the AC or recycle feature. I opened up the filter and cleaned it out of debris. Looking at the filter it seem like it got wet because of color change that occurs on it, brownish(muddy). I bought the car pre-owned almost 10 months ago, had one service done but unfortunately Hyundai dealer scheduled the service hour before closing down and i think they didn't mind checking the filter, let alone checking tire/brake tread and no car wash.

Sonata I45 (YF - 2011+) :: Heavy Fuel / Exhaust Smell

My car if left on in park for 3-4 minutes starts to have a heavy smell of something... Is my car running a little rich or is there a more serious underlying problem?

RPM of car idle is 750.

And car doesn't smell like fuel when I'm driving, only if I leave the car running for a while and it sits there does this smell begin to build up.
