My new Sonata Limited 2.4 has 17" wheels and Kumho tires. On certain rough concrete, or more often asphalt road surfaces, at highway speeds, this car is so noisy that one can hardly carry on a conversation. It's terribly loud. Dealer has "checked" it, and tire dealer has looked at the tires. No problem has been found. What can be done about this?
View 77 Replies2012 Prius Five- Had an annoying vibration coming from the trunk area at highway speeds- especially on concrete roadways. First thought was the problematic rear license plate/frame that I've read about- so I used some felt pads around the rear plate & frame but still had the annoying vibration ad highway speeds. Over the weekend I had some spare time so I started poking around in the trunk area by rapping in several areas with a heavy hand till I heard the same (or similar frequency) vibrating sound.
Eventually I was able to isolate it to somewhere under the rear deck. I removed the carpet, then plastic deck then even the spare, etc., Found it was actually coming from the sheet metal box that surrounds the connections coming from the car and relays to the hybrid battery box. Seems the metal edges of that small connections/relay enclosure were just touching the battery box metal enclosure just lightly enough to vibrate under certain conditions. But how to fix?
To make a long story short- I disconnected the 12v battery, removed the black exhaust duct over small metal cover, removed the battery cooling fan intake shroud, then two annoying orange lock rivets, then a few 10mm nuts and one 10mm bolt- and finally the metal connection/relay cover came off.
Once off- I used black electric tape to line every seam where that metal cover touched the battery box metal cover or car frame- I then lined the battery box metal cover the same way in the areas where the connection/relay cover mated on it. Reassembly was the reverse of disassembly. Upon ride to work this morning- vibration was 100% gone- fixed!
I have an annoying rattle the occurs on rough road surfaces. It comes from the front right wheel area but goes away instantly with light brake pedal pressure. Three trips to the shop have not identified the problem. I just read somewhere that there are "anti-rattle clips" or springs on the brake calipers. Is this right and are these the same as the retaining springs/clips that can be seen from the outside through the slots in the alloys wheels?
View 5 RepliesMy sonata has started having issues on the highway at speeds ~65-75 mph. It will start vibrating, a little at first and gradually getting worse. As this happens my brake pedal seems to be more firm and touchy rather than soft and needing more pressure to stop. The vibration can be felt in the steering wheel and the floor as I drive. This has happened twice so far, with a gap of about a week in between incidents. What should I get checked out?
View 5 RepliesMy daughter just bought a 2106 Hyundai Sonata Sport loaded. Within one week of driving it she noticed a lot of front end vibration at highway speeds. She took it back to the dealer. They test drove it and figured it needed an alignment. It didn't fix the problem. Hyundai corp was notified and the gave permission to put on 4 new tires in case there was damage from the original wheels sitting. Still has not corrected the problem. They have one more try before I demand lemon law and require a new car replacement.
View 5 RepliesI have an RX 450H and noticed that there is a squeaking sound coming from the dashboard. I looked at other posts where people were experiencing similar issues and noticed one post where someone had a GS 450H and fixed this issue by adding felt between the dashboard and the windscreen.
I would like to know whether this method works 100% and whether I can apply this method to the RX 450H. The noise becomes worse when it is cold and especially when the car is being driven over rough road surfaces and speed bumps.
Just got rid of my 2011 Audi a4 for 2012 Elantra Limited with tech pkg. I like the car a lot but man is it noisy at highway speeds. Really makes phone calls and radio listening difficult.
View 25 RepliesI have a 04 v6 model , in the last couple of months when I am on the interstate at about 75-80 mph. I get a very loud vibrating noise coming from the rear of the vehicle. The dealer thinks the drive shaft has some play in it.
View 6 RepliesNoticed the seat shaking when at highway speeds or when you go over bumps in the road? When my seats are empty, they shake and make an annoying rattle, shakey noise. I had them looked at by Hyundai and was told that there was nothing that Hyundai was going to do to fix them. After battling that for a while, Hyundai did reimburse me a car payment for me to "live with it" and, quite frankly, to shut me up.

View 1 Replies2013 Ford Edge... About a month ago the car started making a sound from the front, similar to the sound when you drive over a concrete bridge. This noise first pops up once you get to about 25mph. at 35 it gets very noticeable. Yesterday, for the first time when I hit 60mph it also began making a clicking sound.
This sound originally began out of the blue one day, from nothing to full blown and now as I stated above there is an added clicking noise. I had the car into the ford dealer a few weeks ago but they could not detect a problem/even hear the noise (it was raining heavily that day so I can understand how they would miss it). They did give me new tires/brakes, alignment, and refinished the rotors for other problems I was having. Again the noise was there before and after these changes.
Also, I guess I should add that again for the first time yesterday, as I was parking and coming to a stop there was a sound similar to a mechanical click/clank a few times coming from what sounded like the front left of the car, could this be a connection to the other sound?
About 4 months ago, the car stalled out on the highway. I was going slow because traffic was building up and the car just stopped. I was able to get off to the side. I turned it off, waited a few minutes and then it started up with no problem. I drove it with many stops and starts for about 2 weeks until I could get an appointment with the dealer. The computer did not show a problem. Then in April, the same thing happened. This time, they replaced the Body assy-throttle and./or gasket. Yesterday, the same thing happened though not on a highway but on a city street. There is no noise before the stall, no warning.
View 2 RepliesIt could be the ECS kicking in or something but here's what I feel..... when hitting a rough patch of road at I'd say 25 miles an hour or greater and applying the brake over that rough patch of road for what ever reason, my foot is on brake pedal normal and it feels like the pedal gets ultra firm (opposite of pedal diving to floor if you lost brakes) or the feeling is like the brake pedal is pushing back against me, like the car is taking the brakes off on me for a brief second.....its a weird feeling and only happens on rough road when I'm at speed and have to hit brakes, all other braking times it doesn't do this
Good example is coming to a stop at a certain stop light that's got choppy asphalt right at the stop light line.....light turns yellow and I'm at speed and have to brake to stop for the light, it hit the rumbly road and feels like the pedal doesn't want me to brake and gets really firm, I stop and all, but then again makes me worry, because if I had to really stop fast and hard......would I ???
No alarm or alert lights come on, so I don't know ....

2010 chevrolet HHR clunking from front suspension, rough road, slow speeds. Is this typical of worn sway bar bushings or something more expensive?

I use to use a after market gps years ago that would automatically show the speed limit of each road or highway I am on if I was passing the limit.
I took the R in for a passenger side seat issue (recliner not working), and while I was there I had them look into a light knocking noise I was experiencing.
The noise would happen most noticeably at low speeds, over uneven road surfaces...but not over things like speed bumps. I checked under the car, checked the hatch, made sure the spare/tools were secure, and nothing worked.
VW figured out that the noise was coming from the lower rubber rear spring plate, part (1K0-512-297-D). Not sure if it was one side or both, but they replaced both.
All better now, no more noise! Just wanted to make a thread for those of you who like to hunt down and fix noises.
I just picked up a new GTI and noticed it was riding very firm and bouncing on the highway so I took it into the dealer and they forgot to remove the strut pucks. Even though the pucks are gone it's still bouncing pretty severely when on the highway especially when the concrete is just slightly wavy. I don't mind a slight firmness over cracks and bumps but the strong bouncing on certain roads is unbearable. I only rode with the pucks in for about 500 miles but had problems with it bouncing uncomfortably?
I hope that nothing is wrong with the suspension but if this is how all GTI's are then I might have to trade it in for a jetta or something.
I have a 2004 Elantra with 130000+ miles. Lately I have noticed bumpy ride along the concrete highway. It bumps like a Yo-Yo. What Could be the issue and how expensive?
View 3 RepliesMy vehicle works absolutely beautifully except between 75 and 105 km/hr where I experience sputtering. This does not happen under load but just when I am maintaining a constant speed. It feels like misfires but I don't get a check engine light when it occurs. Misfires would definitely trigger the check engine light. I've tried the obvious solutions:
Used fuel system cleaner in case I got a bad tank of gas
Used fuel additive to eliminate any water in the tank
Changed the oil and filter (it was due anyway)
Replaced the air filter (it was also due)
Cleaned the MAF Sensor
Replaced the spark plugs
None of this has made any appreciable difference in the performance of the vehicle. The sputtering persists.
The car does not have traditional spark plug wires. Instead it has ignition coils which run about $140 each from the dealership. I may eventually have to change one or more coils but I'll try cheaper solutions first.
My next step is to replace the crankshaft position sensor. You may have noticed that I am problem solving starting with the least expensive solution and progressing to more expensive repairs.
