My gas mileage has really gone down. If I change the spark plugs does that work? Also when I turn the air cond on it makes a noise that that mean replace the belt?
View 1 RepliesMy new Sonata Limited 2.4 has 17" wheels and Kumho tires. On certain rough concrete, or more often asphalt road surfaces, at highway speeds, this car is so noisy that one can hardly carry on a conversation. It's terribly loud. Dealer has "checked" it, and tire dealer has looked at the tires. No problem has been found. What can be done about this?

I didn't notice when I was at the dealership, but when I was playing around with the car parked in my garage, I noticed the car gets quite noisy when then a/c comes on... Is this normal?????
When my car sits for a few hours and it starts the engine is very noisy and rattily, for a second or so. One of my coworkers heard it the other day and made a comment. Oil is changed every 4000 miles, level is good. This is consistent and does it every time it sits for a while then starts.

Does this necessitate a complete pulley replacement or can it be disassembled and the bearing repacked (or if necessary replaced). I am becoming concerned that the bearing may fail altogether soon.

View 5 RepliesI have a 2011 Nissan Maxima SV that has poor gas mileage. I took it to Nissan to get checked out but they said there's nothing they could do because the car is showing no codes or no check engine light. I got my spark plugs changed, it seemed like it worked but a week or so later, it went back to how it was (the gas mileage). 2 weeks later, my mechanic checked the spark plugs in front of me, no rust or leaks on them. I burn a half tank of gas every 2 days and that's just driving local to work and back.

I just replaced my tires with Bridgestone Turanza EL400 225/65/16 and now my mileage have drastically decreased, I used to get about 400 miles per tank driving strictly city, but now I'm lucky if I can actually reach 300 miles driving under the same condition (non aggressive city driving). Does increasing the width of the tires actually make this big of a difference in mileage?
View 14 RepliesI have a 2011 honda accord with 15,000 miles on it that Has only gotten 20mpg since it was new. It is supposed to get 23mpg city and 34mpg highway. I figured I was the tires but since fixing the leaking valve stems it is still only 20mpg. I asked the dealer about it several times during oil changes after I first bought it and they claimed to look into it and find nothing wrong. Is there anything I can do to fix this or would it be covered under new yorks lemon laws?
View 19 RepliesI have been little irritated with my noisy/rattling sound ride coming from passenger dash, my steering wheel area and some time front passenger belt. I have taken it to dealership and they could not hear anything so they duplicate the problem and no cation was taken. But they found out passenger side ball joint was loose , so they replaced that under warranty.
I wanna know if everyone sonata makes that noise when you go over little bumps on road, rail track crossing ? it just irritates me too much,,how ever the rattle/noise is not much, i cant hear if i have music on.
Yesterday I tapped on passenger side dash and there was a after tapping noise, like vibration. I don't know if its loose plastic or what. I am not able to detect the exact location where the noise coming from. but i am sure one noise is coming from steering wheel on every tiny bumps.
I want to fix it by myself now, cause sometimes noise is there and sometime not. Is there any way to detect the noise ? Noise- more like plastic noise, like loose plastic, hinges squeaking sound, rattling sound.
I drive a 2011 Tundra 5.L 4X4 truck. why do I get better gas mileage while driving in the Rockies vs states like OK and TX? I get 2mpg better while driving in the Rockies. 17mpg vs 15mpg. I drive same speed, buy the same 87 octane gas & drive on Interstate highways. And it doesn't matter whether I'm driving to or from. Is the gas quality different in the Rockies vs the south or plains states?

View 2 RepliesI bought a used 2008 Sonata GLS with 65K miles 2 years ago. It's been a great car so far. For the first 25K miles that I drove it, it had good pickup and got ~30 MPG for my highway driving. In the last ~5K miles, the fuel mileage has dropped to 25MPG highway and it has some hesitation when accelerating, especially on lower RPM's. I changed the spark plugs with NGK Iridium, but it is still having the issue. What to check?
Some possibilities: ignition coils, sensors, timing belt, etc?

View 4 RepliesI just replaced my OEM battery with a duralast from autozone. The battery had 138,000 miles. Shortly after, the check engine light came on and code says P0106. Map Sensor. Seems like to much of coincidence that this happened. Have read that disconnecting battery cables for 3 hours may do the trick.
View 8 RepliesI've had my XB 5-speed for nearly a year and 10000 miles. It as been dead on reliable and fun to drive. My gas mileage has varied from 26 to 31 in mixed driving and from 32 to 35 on the highway. I use premium fuel only because I can get it without ethanol. My fuel mileage also increased a couple of mpg due to getting the power robbing ethanol out. True it is probably not enough to offset the extra expense but I like not having the stuff in my car. My only dissatisfactions has been with the transmission gear ratios. They are way to low. This torquy engine could easily do with a ratio that would drop about 500 rpm for more relaxed highway cruising.
As it is, though, my XB will go up any hill or long grade without breathing hard! Another is the instrumentation. I don't mind the center mounted set-up but speedometer and trip meter for mpg ratings are both inaccurate. My speedo reads about 2.5 mph high and the fuel mileage read out has about the same error, also on the high side. I have the stock 16" tires. The clutch has a narrow engagement band and can be difficult to be smooth on. The car is fairly quiet, is comfortable and this years hot, humid summer has shown it has one of the best air conditioners I have ever experienced in a car. I thought it might be an electric unit rather than a belt driven compressor because there is absolutely no perceived drag when the compressor kicks on.
THis is about the 5th or 6th time in the past year (2X in past 2 weeks) that the A/C will not come on. Two times took to Dealer & it worked just fine. Ir worked when I drove it, then parked it for 2 hours, and then it wouldn't work. Parked it, and then it worked fine again.
Dealer has no knowledge of this being an issue.
Similarly, my iPhone does not connect on an intermittent basis - again, always connects when at dealer.
Should I do an Oil change? I never noticed this before. I have 5897 miles on the oil now.
