While trying to troubleshoot a suspension noise (knock on potholes and when changing from drive to reverse) I found my outer tie rod end to have alot of play. This is similar on both passenger and driver sides.
Is this normal? I couldn't see any other issues with the other components including the bushings.

So recently I took in the sonata to get the inhibitor switch replaced at the dealership (faulty switch causes loss of the gear indication and the car doesn't move when in gear). After getting the car back, it now buzzes when I put it into reverse or drive. It never did this before. Is this normal after getting the inhibitor switch changed and if it will go back to normal after a while.
View 1 Replies4400 miles on it. Over last few days the transmission started to slip. First gear engages fine, but the change to 2nd involves a rev....(with no acceleration) till it finally grabs.
Reverse into my garage up my slight incline of a drive does same. Slip rev....slip rev... No gear noises.
Tried to check fluid level...(that's what it sounded like to me) but sealed system.
Taking it in for warranty check/work.

Noise is coming from the front suspension. You can hear it at :11 after i come to a stop, then drive over a dip. The dealer has told me it is the front struts. It's the 2nd time I've taken it to the dealership, the first time they could not replicate the noise so i am surprised the technician was able to hear it this time, and I don't want to spend money on strut replacement if it isn't the cause.
I have 2011 Sonata with just over 3500 miles on it. About three weeks ago I was driving down the road going about 45 mph when my sonata jerked like I had hit a pothole. I pulled over and checked it out and saw that I had not hit anything. When I put the car in reverse it jerked, and when I put it in drive the car bucked badly. After that, it had almost no acceleration as if it didn't want to get out of first or second gear. I took it to the dealership and they were able to recreate the problem and called it an "Intermittent Hard Shifting Transmission."
They told me they had to replace the transmission, which they did. After they replaced it they said the car was still hard shifting. So they replaced the transmission again, and again the problem persisted. Yesterday they told me they were ordering a brand new transmission, blaming the problem on the fact that the previous transmissions were re-manufactured.
I'm waiting to hear back after they install this "new" transmission. Maybe the third time's the charm, but this seems ridiculous.
I have what sounds like a spring noise or a slight rub of a newly installed coilover set. The thing is it only happens when backing out of the garage and down the drive way in reverse, I'm not able to recreate it when moving forward. I've notice that it happens on all four. It is a very subtle sound/feel but it is there. I have about a one inch drop when backing out this when it occurs and yesterday I noticed it also happens when I go over the small lines that divide the driveway concrete slabs, but only when in reverse. Besides this the car rides and feels great with no other problems.
View 2 RepliesMy car has an intermittent crackling noise when changing gears from park to reverse, park to drive, and vice versa. It also starts squeaking (coming from the engine) when backing up. The crackling noise almost sounds like sparks.
Having that issue in their generation 2 Prius? I was told by the service adviser that it was the brakes. I think it sounds like a bad issue, although I was told it was completely normal, and maybe they can clean something. Is this pretty commonplace?
Sometime back I had posted that I was getting a minor creaking noise which occurred mainly when I was slowly making right hand turns. At that time the conjecture was it was caused by the mounting tabs (used when the car is assembled) on the rear suspension. The solution was to drop the suspension and file off the tabs. But then I saw at least one other post that said the cause was something else.
Well the minor annoyance has become a major annoyance since it has gotten progressively worse. Before I resort in taking ot to the dealer I'd like to see if I can figure it out and fix it myself. But before I tackle that job I thought I would ask others who had this problem what it turned out to be.
I just bought used 2011 sonata 2.0T ltd. three weeks ago and i just figured that out when i turn the steering wheels both sides while car stops and pressing the brake pedal there is sound comes out from front and rear suspension.

Doesn't happen in N or P. Sometimes goes away, but also sometimes gets louder than what I recorded below. I've only checked the dash and glove box so far. [URL] ......
View 5 RepliesSo I started hearing these random squeaking noises coming from the front suspension its what it sounds like. This only happens thou when i drive up into a drive way that is slanted. Or any kind of slow making slanted turns (~5-10mph)
I'm not 100% positive but it sounds like the suspension because it only makes noise when the car moves a little when ever i go up a drive way.
I have a 2011 Sonata. Recently, I have heard a faint knocking sound when I'm in reverse. It doesn't do it all the time. When I took it into the dealer, it would not make the sound while there. What causes that sound?

View 21 RepliesToday while backing into a spot at work (parked on a flat surface) my 2011 Sonata GLS automatic tranny, when I went to shift the car in reverse felt a big jerk and rather loud noise from shifting.... Haven't heard it since.... I think this happened to me once before many months ago... also on a side note why do I hear a almost a crunching noise when I am steering the car in reverse... I just had my car in for a oil change too.. I'm the only driver and owner of the car it has about 42k on the odometer.

There is a loud groaning/creaking noise coming from the front suspension area. At low speeds, this noise dominates all other noises and is directly related to hitting the gas or pressing the brakes, which produces a forward or backward force on the front suspension and chassis. I can sometimes hear it briefly just by pushing against the parked car.
My hope is that I can just tighten up some bolts and make this go away, but other posts suggest it may be struts, stabilizer links or other non-obvious sources.
My wife always chastises me for not coming to a complete stop from backing up before I shift the car into drive. I do not shift when the car is still moving more than 1-2 MPH, in fact it is barely moving when I change gears. My wife insists that I come to a complete stop and wait 1-2 seconds before shifting from reverse to drive. She is convinced that I am doing damage to the transmission the way I shift. I insist that no damage is being done and point out that with over 100,000 miles there have been no transmission problems with the car. Am I damaging the transmission by shifting before I come to a complete stop in reverse?
View 9 RepliesI drive a 2011 Hyundai Sonata GLS and it has about 84,000 miles on it. Sometimes in the morning the car will not start and I have to start it in reverse... Often times the check engine light will come on and stay on and other times it will go out. Sometimes when I am putting the car in reverse it stalls out... Then there is this horrible loose knocking noise that I think it coming from the steering wheel... Is this car about to put me down?
View 19 RepliesI have a 13 Altima and have been hearing a clunk/pop sound when coming to a stop and sometimes when changing from park to drive and park to reverse. It seems to also be there when accelerating too and the car is also seem to be vibrating when moving at lower speeds. Today i noticed something else. I parked the car and took the key out. I went to the side of the car and slowly rocked it back and forth and started to hear this clunk sound. I have uploaded it to youtube and can be found here [URL].... . After hearing the sound, I decided to take the driver wheel off and noticed it makes the same sound when i move the tires. It seems to be coming from the CV joint, where it connects to the transmission. why would a car make that clunk sound with the car/key off and swayed back and fourth? does this seem like a CV joint issue or something related to the transmission.

View 1 RepliesWhat to do with the ECS light being lit up after changing the steering column? Checked everything and can't figure out why the light is on, it's the light with the car that looks like it's sliding WITHOUT the ''off'' underneath. I'm assuming it just needs to be reset.
