I have a 2012 GLS and on the way to work this evening I noticed that the volume/channel buttons on the steering wheel for the radio will not work. The mode button still works properly, so I attempted to change the radio station on the radio itself to no avail. No buttons other than the volume work on the radio as well.

View 1 Replies2011 F-150 Classic Sync w/ satellite factory radio. A few hundred miles over warranty the radio controller side of the steering wheel buttons has randomized, where the buttons each do a different function, but none of them turn the volume down. Volume Up changes the source, volume down = up, etc. The cruise control side seems to still work.
I have disconnected the battery cable and also done a software reset on SYNC. Read on on other forums to disconnect the air bag and open the steering wheel to spray electrical cleaner in there, or for other radio problems to pull fuse #2. Is this a ghost in the machine type issue?
Also, I have had the truck in for service one time already for the driver door speaker fading out when turning right at specific volume levels. They put in a new speaker which resolved it until the warranty ran out and now it happens again. Could both of these be indicative of a bad radio, or deeper wiring problems?
So I was talking to a guy today with a 2002 Limited diesel. I noticed that his truck didn't have radio buttons on the steering wheel. I thought all 2002 Limited had radio buttons on the steering wheel. The inside of his truck also had simulated wood grain in places that my truck (also 2002 Limited diesel) didn't have.
View 3 RepliesI have a Volvo XC90 2.4 D5 2004. But none of the buttons on the steering wheel are working - not volume for radio, not cruise control.
Symptoms are following:
* buttons on the steering wheel are lighted up
* buttons on the steering wheel are not working, none of them
* horn is not working
I have checked internet over and over and have 3 conclusions, what might be faulty:
1) steeling wheel lining/wire/connections - but in this case they would work periodically and the buttons would not be lighted up;
2) steering wheel module (swm) - in this case also the turn signals would not work and also the headlight would be faulty;
3) clockspring - in this case the airbag light should light up in dashboard.
All of the other buttons on my 05 are fine but for the last year or so the defrost buttons only work when the wheel is turned at least 90 degrees. I am guessing that there is a contact strip of some sort. How hard is it to get to the backside of these buttons?
View 2 RepliesI've got a 2011 Sonata Limited that I just purchased used, 20,000 miles. Everything is great besides the fact that the all the controls on the left hand side of the steering wheel will intermittently stop working. I brought it to Hyundai the first time I noticed and they replaced all the buttons but the issue persisted. So, I just picked it up today from them replacing the entire clockspring and the wiring behind it now. It worked great all day until just as I was pulling into my driveway and it happened again.
They basically told me this would 100% fix it because it's the only other thing that could be the issue. However, my gut keeps telling me it could be an issue with the radio itself. I've read a bunch of stuff on here about the issue but there was only a few responses of fixes (all of which I have tried).
My wife wants the stereo from her last car put into our 2006 Sonata GLS. what is needed for the steering wheel volume controls to work?

View 4 RepliesThis is probably a strange request but I did just get a 2011 F250 XL. The SYNC and audio controls on the steering wheel was an available option, but my truck does not have it. I didn't ask for it to be required in the vehicle search, just one of those "if it has it, awesome" things. I am looking to add the buttons to control the radio and MAYBE SYNC for the bluetooth feature if this is possible.
I know to add SYNC I need a radio that's ready for it, which mine is, and a microphone somewhere and all of that so that's not to be done until a later date. My old F150 had the radio controls on the wheel and I miss that. Can I add the radio controls on the wheel? And maybe SYNC without needing to add a Parrot device for bluetooth? Or am I SOL on both?
The Vent/defrost/front/rear buttons on the steering wheel quit working so I replaced them, still not working, so I replaced the Clock spring, still not working. The controls on the touch screen works fine its just the steering wheel buttons that don't work.
View 3 RepliesI took my truck to the dealer because my steering wheel buttons quit working as far as going forward or back between songs via bluetooth. The tech said the buttons don't work via bluetooth from the factory and I told him he was wrong. They worked in a 2007 Edge, 2008 F150, 2009 Fusion, 2009 F250, and until the day before, my 2012 F150. He said "You must be mistaken". I took it home, pulled Fuse 2 (Sync) waited a couple of minutes (Nice place for the fuse box, Ford) put the fuse back, let Sync load, repaired, etc, and my steering buttons now work again. I only use bluetooth with both my S3 and Note 2, so if your buttons stop working, do you always have to pull the fuse, or is there an easier way to fix this? That's the fix I found.
View 8 RepliesI have a 2003 Passat W8 with the Monsoon system and today I had a new problem pop up with it. On my way to work this morning the steering wheel volume and tuning controls stopped working. I also noticed that the Heads up display in the center of the dash is now blank...it used to show the CD number and track number. I can't seem to find any blown fuses in the fusebox.. I don't have the removal tools but I was going to check behind the radio to see if there might be another fuse there...

View 1 RepliesI just noticed this the other day. The three climate control buttons on the right side of my steering wheel--fresh/recirc, front defrost, rear defrost--have stopped working.
The functions still work if I use the MFD display to control them. What this might be? Is there a separate fuse for these buttons?
Strangely, after my battery died and the car was jump-started the volume control on the steering wheel is not working correctly. When I press the volume up switch, the sound actually decreases, and the volume down button does not function. The manual volume control on the radio works fine.
View 14 Repliesmy timing chain slipped and had to have engine repaired - then when I picked up my car the display for the radio/clock didn't work and neither did the buttons. The knobs worked (to turn radio on/off and tuning) - but of course since the display is blank can't see what radio station I'm on.It worked perfectly when I dropped it off, but when I picked it up, it was non-functional. Mechanic says they didn't do anything with the dash - but how else would this have happened? Is this not the fault of the mechanic?
View 8 RepliesShortly after buying a used 2013 Sonata the radio started working intermittently then quit working at all.It's the base model radio with no navigation and no reset button. I have tried disconnecting the battery, re-seating fuses and even pulling the harnesses off of the radio and it is still not working. Before replacing the radio I want to see if i can use a battery to power it up on the bench to see if the radio is bad or if the problem is somewhere else in the car.
