Tiguan :: 2011 SEL Whine On Cold Start

Jun 14, 2011

My 11 SEL is making this weird noise on a cold start. It sounds like almost like a bit of brake squealing when I first turn the steering wheel. I am not touching the brakes so I don't think it is that. Only lasts for 2-3 seconds and then it is gone. The car runs fine otherwise and there is nothing felt in the wheel.

Lexus RC F 2015+ :: High-Pitched Whine Below 1200 Rpm After Cold Start?

I posted a related video in the fuel pump thread here where the high whine noise is apparent several seconds after a cold start. Now from inside the cabin, looking at the revs, the "sewing-machine-like" whine disappears above 1200 rpm.

Lexus IS 2014+ :: Steering Wheel Whine Upon Turning During Cold Start

So recently, my car started making whining noises upon turning the steering wheel during cold starts. Now, it does it when the car is warmed up too. From what I can hear, its only during slow speeds. Can't take my car to the dealership anymore cause they will charge me $140 diagnostic fee for whatever issues I'm having due to my car being "tampered" with previously. (It's all stock now).

Tiguan :: 2011 - Stalling After A Warm Start

I have owned my 2011 Tiguan VW since new. This winter it has developed a stalling problem after a warm start. It has never did this from a cold start. Just after I have been driving, stop for 20min to an hour, come back and start it. What happen is the car starts fine, I put it in drive and start to drive away, when I get about 50 feet, the engine cuts out. The only light on the dash are the battery light. I put it in neutral and it starts right back up. It doesn't do it every time, about every tenth time; just infrequently enough so it catches me off guard every time.

Tiguan :: 2014 - Ignition Rattle On Cold Start

So I am hearing a weird noise when I start up my Tig after it's been sitting at least overnight. I'm not sure when it started because if the windows are up when I start I can't hear it inside, so for all I know it's been happening since before the warm weather arrived. But anyway... It's a brief rattle, kind of high and plastic-y, like maybe a half-second long or less, when I first start up. If I turn it off and then start it again, no rattle. Don't hear it again until the Tig has sat for a while.

No CELs or anything or other signs of trouble. It's a 2014 with 24k miles, bought CPO at 19k.

Tiguan :: Misfiring On Cold Start - RPM Goes To 1100 And Engine Works Hard

For last 3 months I have faced to a problem. My 2009 2.0 TSI, misfiring in cold start (in Summer!). When engine is cold (particularly in the mornings) in FIRST start, RPM goes to 1100 and engine works hard and car badly shakes. If I continue, engine light flashes. But if I just after first start, turn off the engine and restart it again, RPM comes back below 1000 and engine works well!!.

During first start a strange noise comes from the below of the car (Check...check...check...) but in second start everything is OK.

KM is 100k. I red the code and it usually shows P0302 (Misfire in cyl 2) and sometimes P0301 and P0300. I recently change all spark plugs (ngk) but problem had started before sparks change.

I switched the coils to see if misfiring follows the coil but negative.

I know it can have different reasons, PCV, carbon build up, EGR,..... but as it goes just after SECOND start I think it should be an electrical problem.

Tiguan :: Running Rough During A Cold Start / Random Cylinder Misfires

I've got a 2009 Tiguan with 65k miles on it. A few weeks ago I noticed some issues with running rough during a cold start. I only noticed because the engine would vibrate considerably more than usually for the first few minutes of operation, and would idle at around 1050-1100rpm instead of the usual 750rpm. After warm up, things were fine. Suddenly the issue got bad real fast - wife was out and the MIL light came on, EPC light came on, and the car was running extremely rough. We managed to drive it home (2 miles) doing under 20 the whole time on side streets. Once I hooked it up to my OBD reader, I was seeing cylinder misfire codes on all four cylinders.. P0300, P0301..P0304, all five codes simultaneously.

Since the car was due for an oil change and hit 65k miles recently, I decided to throw new plugs in there to see if that would work. It did, at first.. A day or two it ran completely fine, no rough starts, no misfires, I thought I had solved the problem. The old plugs had some deposits on them and were original, so I thought I was in the clear. Two days later, same thing happened again.. EPC light, barely running and misfires on all four cylinders..

I read up some online and decided to order new ignition coils. Took a few days, but I got four new coils and threw them in. Again, problem solved it seemed. No more EPC light, misfire codes didn't come back and no more rough starts. I drove a good 40 miles with no problems at various speeds, but started noticing some misfires during acceleration (slightly rough acceleration, almost feels like a back and forth rocking motion, very slight). Sure enough, after a cold start I'm seeing the engine run a bit rough again with misfires. This time, only P0304 (misfire on cylinder 4) is thrown, and it only shows up as a "pending code" (engine light flashes for a few moments during start, but does not stay on).

I checked my connections, swapped the plugs and coils in what I thought were cylinders 3 and 4 (closer to the driver side), nothing. I swapped what I think are cylinder 1 and 2 (passenger side) just to be sure, but still nothing. At this point I'm pretty lost. I know enough to be dangerous with a carbureted engine, but am lacking in knowledge when it comes to a fuel injected turbo charged VW engine. It seems to be cylinder 4 misfiring consistently at this point according to the OBD reader.

Also of note.. I had some misfire problems last year, and had my intake manifold replaced as part of a recall (also had carbon deposits removed at the same time). Can a carbon build up occur this fast? Can it be the injectors?

Tiguan :: 2012 - Car Has A Whine From The Steering Wheel

After seeing my new car my mom decided she wanted a new one too lol (i got a 2012 gti) so she traded her 2008 camry in for a new 2012 tiguan. I went to my parents house when they got it to see how the tsi is in the tig compared to my gti.

Her car has a whine from the steering wheel. She took it into vw (has had it now about 5 days) and they said it's normal and will go away. I don't believe the dealership in saying it will go away. I feel like it's something simple too like a squeaky bearing or something and just needs some lube. Also in low speeds/low rpm (it's an automatic) it sounds kinda loud (like putting manual in to high of a gear that low rumble type noise).

Santa Fe (CM - 2007-12) :: 2011 3.5 V6 Hard Start From Cold

The vehicle has 80,000kms, and from a cold start it is having this problem more and more frequently. I must crank the engine 3+ times, and then she starts. A prolonged cranking period doesn't seem to work, and this only occurs when cold. The car starts fine when warmed up. I have scanned the car with a generic OBD2 reader and there are no codes. Once the car is running, it runs great with no misfires.

Sonata I45 (YF - 2011+) :: Cold Start / Throttle Delay

Ive noticed that if I start my car, and put it into drive, there's a 2-3 second delay before the car moves after hitting the gas. It almost feels like the car is stalling, but it's not. It only happens that first time after a cold start.

If I put my car into reverse first, like when backing out of the garage, it doesn't do it. Only when going directly from park to drive. Is this normal?

Sonata I45 (YF - 2011+) :: Cold Start Ticking / Tapping Noise

Have a noise from cold starts in the morning when it is cold outside? Mine does a ticking noise, no not the normal ticking noise, but a different ticking noise like something is tapping something. Could this be that the fuel injectors or cold so it makes a louder noise? Another noise is constant clicking when I decelerate or am going very slow. It only does this when it is cold outside and it lasts for about 10 to 15 minutes and then the noise becomes a lot quiter. Is this normal?

Sonata I45 (YF - 2011+) :: Brakes Grabbing When Driving After Cold Start

So I have a 2012 Sonata with about 80k miles on it. I bought it used a few months ago. It has recently started having issues with the brakes.

When the car is cold and I start driving, every time I push down on the brakes they will do a quick grab after a few seconds. Sometimes its a slight grab and other times its a jerking grab. After I drive 10-20 miles or so and it warms up this goes away.

Azera HG (2011-16) :: 2013 - Cold Start Engine Rattle

I have a 2013 Azera w/technology package, it has 20,500 miles. I absolutely love the car, have had no issues with it. However, every time the car is started with a cold engine, either from sitting overnight, or sitting an hour when it's very cold outside (20's or 30'sF), there is a loud rattle like something is very loose or I've described it like it sounds like someone threw a bag of bolts in the engine for about 3-4 seconds. Then it runs like a normal engine. I've had it in the shop twice, the 2nd time they replaced the fuel rail injector assembly and all the injectors due to such a heavy carbon buildup in the cylinders. It still rattles horribly. It's an embarrassment to start, it sounds horrible and doesn't sound like the normal startup noise. This concerns me of the longevity of the engine. I have video of the start up noise even.

Camry :: 2011 - Rattle Noise For A Second Or So On A Cold Start When Sits Overnight

I just bought 2011 Camry 2.5 6auto with 57k miles on it. The car make a rattle noise for a second or so on a cold start when sets overnight. I took it to the dealer yesterday and they replaced the timing gear assembly under warranty. This morning when I started the car in the morning it made the same rattle noise. I am going to take it back to the dealer next week.

My question is has any one had this rattle noise? if so, did the noise go away after the dealer replaced the cam gear? Also, Do you think this rattle will affect the engine in the long term?

When I start the cold engine mine makes a loud whining noise. I took it to the Ford dealer and they said that the sound is normal and that it's the turbo's. I think I'll take it to another ford dealership and get a second opinion, The service guy has the same truck as me and his was making the same noise on cold start up and they told him it was the turbo's also. Something's not right about the noise.

Ford Super Duty (1999-2016) :: 2011 - Remote Start Will Not Work When Cold Soaked Below 0F

2011 SD 6.7 with factory remote start will start normally when the temperatures are above 20F or the vehicle is warmed up. If the temperature is near or below O F and the vehicle is cold soaked for 12 hours the remote start fails to work. Push the lock button and the lights flash, push remote start twice and the lights flash once and nothing happens. Subsequently can manually start vehicle with key without any delay or problems. Once vehicle is warmed up can remote start normally. Only recently have the temps been low enough in the area to experience this problem which has repeated 3 times. Unable to find any troubleshooting in the service manual for this.

Audi - A4 :: 2011 - Transmission Whine From Front End?

My car has 40,000 miles on it and the warranty ends in the near future. I noticed this winter on some occasions a type of whine (not too loud, but noticeable) from the front of the car. The noise and tone seemed to be proportional to the engine revs. I think I recall the noise stopped when I put the car in neutral while it was still moving. I don't notice it now. I would like to avoid any out-of-warranty fixes if possible. Any thoughts as to the cause?

Ford - F150 :: Whine Comes From Engine At Startup In Very Cold Temps

I has been quite cold in my area lately. Buy cold, I mean like 0 or a few degrees below. We also had some snow which ahs made it a requirement to drive my 4WD Ford truck with the 4.6L engine. This is a 1997 Ford F-150 light duty which is the oddball with the 7 lug wheels among others. It is 4WD with a manual transmission. The truck has close to 300k on it and I was told it had a used engine installed when I bought the truck but have never been able to verify this. The engine runs well without odd noises or clanks and doesn't burn or use oil. I have the O'Reilly brand 5W30 synthetic oil in the engine.

There has been a strange whine that comes from the engine at startup in these very cold temps. This only lasts a few short seconds and quickly goes away. I have the manual transmission in neutral so I figure it is engine related and not the transmission. It sounds like a gear noise or whine so I am assuming maybe the oil is too thick to get through the oil pump, timing chain, or similar.

This only happens at cold starts when it is VERY cold outside but I wanted to make sure this wasn't a sign of impending failure. The truck runs well otherwise and I would gladly replace the oil pump if it were going out. I was also thinking about switching to a 0W30 as the truck is mostly used in the winter anyway if the oil not being thick enough is a possibility.
