Just installed APR stage 1 software around 1000 miles ago. The power increase is great, though the last couple days i noticed a slight like slippage from the clutch. I dont do any burnouts. Just open it up,( full thottle) here and there. Always let the car reach operating temp before i start driving. I am afraid that the stock clutch is going to go on me. View 3 RepliesI have experienced what I believe is clutch engagement failure or clutch slippage on three occasions over the last 2000 miles on my DSG equipped 2011 GTI. Twice from a complete stop the engine rev to 3000 rpm but the car did not move. I let off the gas then tried again and the car accelerated normally. Once, again when accelerating from a complete stop the car moved relatively slowly while the engine revved, the clutch then seemed to fully grab and the car accelerated normally. I plan to get the car into the dealer in the next couple of weeks but I fully expected that the service staff will not be able to replicate the problem since it occurs infrequently.

View 24 RepliesI have a stage 1+ tune, fuel pump, and intake. I ran into some clutch slippage and I decided to purchase an aftermarket clutch that was designed to mate with the OEM dual mass flywheel. I went this route because I had a single mass on my GTI and it was loud. I figured this would be a good solution to avoid the noise and be able to hold the added torque.
I broke it in as the instructions stated. After break in I gave it some throttle and I notice that there is severe slipping occurring. I have the clutch and flywheel pulled back out and sent back to the clutch manufacturer (they requested to see the flywheel despite it being the OEM one). The manufacturer states that the clutch is fine but the OEM flywheel is failing. They refurbish the clutch and ship it back to me with the flywheel. I take the flywheel to the dealer and explain that I suspect the flywheel is failing and divulge that I have some light modifications. The dealer shows me paperwork that they had behind the counter that says that any transmission issues on cars A, B, C, and D require an immediate contact to their VW rep and an opening of some type of file on the failure (forget what they called it). What's on the top of the list? The Golf R of course. They go on to tell me that they need the car to start this process and they will do nothing with the removed flywheel that I brought to them.
So at this point, my car is in pieces at the shop that I use and I've been without it for going on a month. I will also, obviously, end up having to pay double the labor for the install. I am also going to be out some more money to come up with a viable solution as I still don't have a functional flywheel. So what do I do?
I could purchase another OEM flywheel for about $800. My concern here is the OEM flywheel busting up again and being in exactly the same spot that I am in now. I could purchase a new aftermarket clutch and flywheel combo and scrap the hope of avoiding the noise and sell the refurbished clutch I have to try to recoup some of the losses. Not sure what other options I have, if any.
Needless to say, I am feeling pretty unhappy about this whole thing. I've landed in a place where I am going to end up shelling out twice as much cash as I should have to get a clutch in my car. Burning a couple of grand to get absolutely no benefit stings more than a little.
Went APR low output stage 1 on my 2016 GTI PP 6MT W/ Less then 5k miles on it. Clutch immediately started slipping in high torque situations.
View 4 RepliesI installed a new clutch, pressure plate, and flywheel at 154,000 and I'm now just over 155,000. I drove it very conservatively for at least 1,000 miles, and had no issues whatsoever.
Now, after sitting for a day, starting off in first gear, I'll get some clutch chatter. Outside of first starting out in 1st, every other gear is solid. And the 1st gear chatter tends to get better as the car is driven longer.
Secondly, it happened today, I'm getting what I thought I experienced before as clutch slippage in 5th gear: I'll lose acceleration as if the clutch is slipping, but the revs won't spike even if I tap the throttle. If I come off for a second and go back on, everything is fine. It doesn't make sense that's it's slipping as it's brand news.
It also seems to happen when it's been rainy or wet, but that could be all in my head.
I have a 2009 Tiguan 2.0T Gas 2WD Tiptronic Auto.
I noticed a while back on a cold morning that at first start the idle would seem off a bit.
I only would notice it for about a couple of minutes and then it would smooth out as I began to drive.
Lately that still happens some but mainly I have some hesitation or slight jerking as I accelerate now.
Mainly it will do it while starting to take off slowly/ when pulling a hill/ and when having to maintain a low speed behind many other cars.
I can counter act it a bit by stepping harder on the gas pedal(when there's room) and getting the RPM to go and stay over 2000 like on the highway.
If it is under 2000 RPM you can notice it pretty well.
I am concerned as I have not had this problem before and it is very well maintained and cared for.
Though it is likely due for a tune up...
What could be the most likely cause? I don't really want to take it to the dealer first as they would want a fee beforehand just to check it out.
It had a check engine light on for just a minute one day but it did not stay on.
If it stayed on then I could get the parts store to check it using the OBDII scanner.
I just towed a friends' boat 1500 kms and noticed while walking around with the vehicle running, I could hear what sounded like a slight humming or hissing sound kicking on and off in the rear, almost like an auto-levelling setup. As far as I know the Tiguan's don't come with anything like that. I don't hear it when nothing is hooked up.

View 5 RepliesI have a 2011 Tiguan 125TSI with the 7 speed DSG. When it starts cold, you can hear a noise that sounds like a bad gear change when going from 3th to 4th, and 4th to 5th. It almost sounds like changing gears in a manual car without clutch completely depressed. It has been there since I got the car brand new, but recently it seems to be getting worse.
Once the engine gets warm, the sound goes away and gear changes are smooth.
I've asked the VW dealer about the sound and they tell me it is normal. Is this right? The problem is it is very hard to demonstrate to VW the issue since it may happen only once when the engine is cold. I've left it with the dealer overnight and they were able to reproduce it in the morning... but again, they tell me this is normal.
I've been driving manual 12 years, all my driving life, and been in 10+ manual vehicles during that time, including a 10+ year stint in a 1.8T Passat with a 5-speed.
In all that time, and all those experiences, I've never replaced a clutch, damaged a clutch, or had one problem. In fact, I consider myself a very good operator of the manual transmission.
This is preface to my current situation. 2009 Tiguan (early build) 2.0T 6M, driving at 57mph in 6th gear - downshift to 4th to pass a truck and WHAM. Grinding, confusion, and then the clutch pedal stuck straight to the floor. Glide to a stop on the side of the bayou road.
Totally immobile vehicle. Impossible to shift into gear, or get the pedal off the floor except by pulling. Smell of acrid smoke.
VW dealership says "we're doing a courtesy warranty repair" on the clutch, flywheel and bearings, as if it's my fault. Impossible. This is a mechanical defect if I ever saw one.
I was driving down the street and i noticed i couldnt get it in first gear, almost like a wall blocking it. and then i put it into 2nd gear and i started rolling... i turned my car off and when i started it back up, it had a slight grinding noise (in neutral). i put it in first gear, took out the clutch and i wasnt going anywhere... same with 2nd gear...
so i towed my car to the shop, they said my clutch went out and i "lost first and REVERSE gear".... is that possible?!
Getting a slight FW chatter on stock clutch setup (02M)? I've noticed it for a while...most of the time I don't notice it, but other times I will be sitting in the drive-through and it will chatter. Goes away when the clutch is depressed.

View 14 RepliesWhen pulling away casually in 1st from a stop, I hear a slight chatter noise. Had this since before the tune (stage 1). Almost like the sound a diesel makes at idle but only lasts a second or two. To the best of my knowledge it is an OEM clutch. Had 9k miles when I bought it, now has 25k.
View 24 RepliesI have a Mk VII R manual transmission with only 500 miles on it, but I'm having an issue that I think some of you may have experienced. My clutch is perfectly smooth when idling or in neutral, but there is a slight "gritty" feel or like rubbing against sandpaper when I lift up the clutch, mostly in 1st or 2nd gear and just when I give it throttle and the car starts moving or when the clutch engages. I thought maybe I was crazy but I did a search and found multiple people with this same issue on the MK VI R's.

When we first bought our white 2013 GT used (21K kms) it made a slight moaning sound when you would start off from a stop while engaging the clutch. Dealer was able to replicate and diagnosed it as a bad clutch release bearing. Replaced it and moaning sound was gone. Free under warranty. Been fine ever since and car is now at 75k kms.
I just drove our other GT (black 69k kms) for the first time in ages as normally another family member drives it. I immediately noticed the same moaning sound when starting from a stop and releasing the clutch. I'm betting it's the same bearing. Is this a common issue?
My clutch peddle made a slight "snap" sound last night and now it is very difficult to get the car to engage in a gear while sitting still, while moving it does ok, but not nearly as smooth as it should be. The other odd occurrence is that while the motor is running and the car is not moving, you can't shift any gears at all, but as soon as you cut the motor, all 5 gears and reverse are easily accessible. Why the sound at the peddle and the trouble in the gear shift mechanism? I am only an advanced beginner with car repair, but I think think this is really bad...

So, I haven't been the kindest car owner to my poor little hatchback. I do my best to get regular oil changes, but other than replacing the brakes last year, I have not kept up with most of the manufacturer's suggested regularly scheduled maintenance. The car has about 130,000 miles. Manual Transmission. My clutch feels a little loose, and I have been noticing a slight grinding sound when shifting (only from neutral to first gear).
This is an Auto/4z4/4.6 V-8. It's Skidding or a Clutch is not holding at times when shifting up or down while on Cruise and slight hills.
someone suggested changing oil and filter about two years ago. I did that and it didn't change a thing. $145 that time.
I'd like to know if its the clutch in the torque converter, or the Transmission? If I have to change something out, should I get both?
