The other day I was driving downhill, luckily at slow speed, when the engine tuned off on my 2004 V8 Touareg. The brakes and steering were obviously in manual (not powered) and pull off on the side and turned on the engine again with no problems thereon.
View 2 RepliesI picked up my V8 yesterday. Overall great car. I spent several hours at the dealer working out little things and doing some shakedown driving. So I finally am ready to pull the trigger. I pay, they hand me the keys, and I am off. It's now dark, the dealership is closing, and I have to drive home. I get in the car and the floor lights in the front (where your feet are) and in the floor of the rear cargo area won't go off. I play with every control in the car and cant get them off. The overhead lights turn off - no problem. Then I get home and turn the car off. They still wont go off. I have to pull the fuse to get them off so it wont run the battery down. Then I notice that the red instrument panel will not go off either - end up pulling that fuse too.
View 14 RepliesSince we have had vehicle, it has had fault whereby whenever we turn engine off, the key will not come out of lock and display says "engage Park" even though we already have.... Only solution is to turn ignition back on and then off again, and then key comes out. Dealer has had one go at it, but no success, due to go for another try next week.

Everything seemed otherwise fine until yesterday, when the engine started running rough (like it is missing) and the CEL will flash on and off periodically. When I got home, the exhaust smelled like gas. I have an appointment with the dealer one week from today, and am driving my "spare" car in the interim.
View 21 RepliesThis is the first time I ever encountered this then again this is my first non-Honda/Acura vehicle. I pulled into my driveway turned the engine off , opened the door and the sound that signals your lights are on was blaring. I looked and did not have any lights on and all doors/hatch were shut. I could not figure it out why... then I noticed my right turn signal light was on.............. so I clicked it off and the noise stopped. Is this normal for the engine to be off and the signal light stay on and wail if it has not reset itself from a turn?
View 4 Replies04 Touareg VR6 7k miles. Noticed a slight engine knock when driving very slowly such as through a parking lot when you vary engine speed between 1500 and 2000 rpm? You can not hear it if when the window is down, or radio is on, it has to be very quiet. I think it may have been here all along and I just never happened to be idling around with no radio.

~After i shut the car off the fan keeps on blowing at a very high rate as if the car is over heating, its currently 45-50 degrees.
~On cold morning when i start the car up and turn the steering wheel I hear a very loud whining sound, but after driving for about 20 min and the car has warmed up the sound goes away.
I always take care of my car oil changes on time. And in the last week my check engine light turned on for a few hours then turned off. And today it turned on again. I kinda regret getting rid of my scan gauge now.

Not very useful for putting the garage door up and down as you don't want the car running BEFORE you put the door up. I had two other cars with Homelink and both worked at all times. If VW can make the radio work all the time they could certainly do the same with the Homelink controls.

View 2 RepliesMy wife called today. After she shut off the car today (13F and 2" snow today), she "says" the car stayed on for 10-15 seconds before it went quiet. I'm assuming it was fan noise, since I don't see how the car can stay running if the key was removed. She didn't have the REST button set. What is "staying on". Haven't heard this before today.

View 2 RepliesI noticed recently when I walk away from my car I hear a whirring noise as if a fan or belt were slowly winding down. It does stop eventually but I'm wondering if something was torqued or moved out of place to cause this noise, that I don't remember hearing before.
View 11 RepliesMy 05 V8 has developed a slight whistle when the air conditioning is turned on and the fan speed is high. This only seems to happen when the system is taking in outside air. If it is recirculate mode, the whistle goes away. It also goes away if you manually turn the fan speed down. My assumption is that something may be caught in the intake.
View 4 RepliesWhen I turn on my a/c, it gives this short hissing sound for a second or two before it goes away. Then along the road i heard random hissing sounds (not often nor consistent, just happens every now and then) that lasts for a sec or two. Could this be a future problem or is it normal?

View 12 RepliesA couple weeks ago i started to get the "ABS", "ESP off", and a picture of a truck heading downhill "hill descent"? warning lights when i turned the ignition on. The warning lights would all stay on and this was happening about 25% of the time that i started the car. Once on they stay on until i turn ignition off. The owners manual states the when the "ABS" failure light comes on it automatically turns ESP off. So I tested to see if ABS really not working and sure enough i was able to get wheels to lock up and i smoked the tires pretty good.
I took car to dealer and they found a hard fault code for the ABS failure but they could not find anything wrong so they ended up cleaning all connections - whatever that means. That was yesterday. Today the warning lights all came back on.
As soon as I turn heater on I smells coolant, I checked all over inside cabin there is no coolant liquid inside, I'm wondering if the heater itself is leaking or there is another problem.
View 3 RepliesI experienced abnormal behaviour of the xenons (I think).I thought that when all lights were off (no DRL's or what so ever), and I flash the high beams (pull the left lever towards me and release) that I'd see the halogens only and no xenons, but apparently the xenons are flashing as well.
I know there's a mechanism in front of the xenon bulbs that covers the normal xenon beam partly for the normal lights, and gives you the full beam when high beams are on (the thing called "Bi-Xenon").
But I thought the xenons are not supposed to come on just for flashing if the normal lights are not already on, because the lighting of a xenon bulb is not fast enough.
Like the title states my 04 egg has a sour smell when i first turn on the a/c. could this be mildew if so from where, are there fresh air filters in these? i already am not overly fond of this vehicle.
