I described about 3 weeks ago this loud metal sound coming from the exhaust with any revs above 4k at stop or on the road. The car sounds like a Z06 Vette with out the cats on-it is really a loud disheartening sound. The VW stealership replaced the whole exhaust but the sound is still there. Where I should direct them to look??
View 6 RepliesI have noticed an odd sound when coming to a stop. It sounds like a metal ball or two rolling forward when I brake then roll back and hit something when i come to a complete stop. At first i thought it was just something rolling around in the center console but I haven't found anything. What is under the center console/drivers seat that may have something that could roll like that?

WILD, Loud sqealing, screeching metal on metal or maybe stone on metal sound coming from front passenger wheel. at first i was positive it was a pebble caught b/t the inside rotor and heat shield - i took the tire off and nothing there.. Also only really does it when I turn RIGHT.
View 13 RepliesMy 2011 2.4l Sonata made a metal on metal sound suddenly the other day. About 4 days ago, I drove about 2 hours away from where I live, Mostly highway, about 80mph to a go kart race. Got out of the car for a while and came back in and was pulling away to run the store and as i started to approach the first stop sign maybe 500-600 ft from where i was parked, i heard a bad metal on metal sound, came to a complete stop at the sign and it stopped. Went back to the race after driving to the store about 5 miles away.
Got in the car to leave and same thing, just to the stop sign 500-600ft away. Drove home like i said mostly highway, and didn't hear a thing. Today, about 4 days later, I drove to Chicago O'hare airport, about 30min away, and it was fine the whole way there. However on the way back, after about 20-25min, I heard it again. So I came to complete stop as I was forced to by a traffic light as I was taking my exit off the highway, and It started making that sound again. So i came to a complete stop at the light and started moving again when it turned green and couldn't heard a thing.
In preparing for my end of lease inspection, I mounted my '04 roof racks back on my Treg, and a few days later, I noticed this very loud hmmm/vibration, sounding almost like a steady fog horn, coming from behind me. It lasted about ten seconds, and at first, all I could think of was "that is not us! Until a few minutes later, when it recurred, and I realized that it was probably going to be speed dependent. I eventually realized that the one thing that was different since the prior week was that I put the racks back on the car. When I installed them, I dropped them into their recessed slots, and slid them back to the rear, where I think they are supposed to make the least noise.
Well, not anymore. I think I have to either slide one forward, say to the next detent in the tracks, or get the dealer to back the X3 up better. I think I will slide the forward rack up some, or take them both out for the last month of the lease.
the other day i was driving with no music on my GS and i noticed every time i came to a complete stop, the brakes would produce a weird loud knock sound. it was rainning so i thought it would be from that... but then after driving it roughly 5-7miles the sound stopped... then since i noticed it, i hoped on my corolla to see if it had the same thing but no... only on my GS.. is this normal?
View 5 RepliesI have been getting a loud, high-pitched mechanical-sounding noise coming from the middle of the dash, near the CD player. It lasts only a few seconds, but it scares the sh!t out of me every time! It happens out of the blue after I've been driving for a few minutes about every 3 weeks or so. The sound is almost impossible to describe...but if you've had it happen you probably know exactly what I'm talking about. It happened today while I was listening to a CD, so I can't imagine it's the player that's doing it. Non-Nav/Air V8
View 1 RepliesI have a 94 ranger 4L. I am looking for a more loud exhaust sound in/outside the truck and at idle. I have had a cherry bomb turbo on it and it was ok but not loud enough for my liking. I just picked up a flowmaster 40 2 days ago and it sounds good but again just not loud enough for my taste and kinda a lot more. I was looking for a louder muffler that is not a glasspack and would like to stay under like 80 or so.
I also thought about getting a high flow cat which i think might make some more sound but was not sure. Im running the stock pipe which is 2" and end in back of the wheel on the right. I look at the Hooker Headers Maximum Flow Muffler which i thought would be louder b/c it's more straight through the muffler so it would put off more sound better. What would u recommend for something more loud ?
Lately I have been driving in the Sport Mode more often. I have noticed that when accelerating from a stop it revs to just below the redline before shifitng, is this normal?
I also notice that when slowing down or coming to a stop, it has a "hurky jurky" feel. As if it was downshifiting way to early. is this normal?
I have a 04 v6 model , in the last couple of months when I am on the interstate at about 75-80 mph. I get a very loud vibrating noise coming from the rear of the vehicle. The dealer thinks the drive shaft has some play in it.
View 6 RepliesDriving my golf to take daughter to airport, all or a sudden there is this very loud metal scrapping sound. So I pull over and see this metal bat hanging from under the car and rubbing on the ground. At this point I'm not sure what it is and cant really budge it or dislodge it.
Anyway called for roadside assistance and a towtruck comes. The guy lifts the car a bit and is able to free this metal rod. Its about 1.8m (6ft) long and about 5mm thick (approx). Couple of photos below. Not sure if its part of suspension, steering or something else. Did have a mobile mechanic today doing some work on the cooling system (flange) he had to jack up the car.

My car is about 140K miles. It is a 2002 Subaru Forester. For about one month now, my car has this loud metal grinding sound from the rear of the car when I try to climb a pretty big hill. (The grinding sound is rhythmic, it is more like Click Click Click, but loud and metallic). After the climbing, the noise will slowly goes away. The noise never more than 10-15 seconds. The car functioned normally during all other driving but climbing this big hill. ( which I need go to through it at least 3 times a week). What could cause this?
View 2 RepliesI have this horrible metal clunking noise coming off of my front end. I just had new brakes put on the car and the mechanic said everything looked good around the assembly. But now when I am approaching to stop, right as I apply a bit more pressure to the brakes before stopping, I get a soft clunk inside the car... but I feel it through the pedal. When the windows are down and I am going slow enough, I can hear it clink (clink, not clunk). It's a very metal on metal sound.... I thought of my control arms, however there is no sound what-so-ever when I steer left to right....

View 6 RepliesMetal on metal rubbing sound when starting off from a stop at slow speeds? It seems like it is brake related because putting on the brakes stops the noise. The noise also seems to go away when you get a little more speed, and maybe when the it shifts from 1st to 2nd ? This also is intermittent.

1.) Everytime I go to back up in my car the whole car starts shaking back in forth like someone is at the front and back rocking it.
2.) After my car has been driven around for a bit and I return to campus to look for parking spaces sometimes I have to back up because there aren't any. Whenever I go to back up, it makes this loud sound like a bat hitting a metal pole and it can be felt throughout the car. It does it all the time now.
I am beginnning to get scared to take this thing offroading. Also whenever I shift from P to R it makes this loud THUNK sound. I am going to let the dealer look at it when I take it in for the 10K service.
I bought this truck about 8 months ago, and replaced the EVAC system right off. Now, it's doing this thing where, when driving uphill, it chugs and makes a loud metal clunking sound. Also, as I slow, it tries to accelerate on its own (with my foot on the brake), and if I sit for too long at a stop (idling), it dies. Starts right up again, but it sucks having to start my truck on the freeway in slow/stopped conditions. Is it my fuel pump or my transmission?
View 1 RepliesSometimes when closing either the front driver or passenger door, it seems as though the door is not closing properly and it sounds like the latches are striking metal against metal. The doors always close and the noise does not occur all the time, in fact it occurs on a very seldom basis. The noise is very annoying and definitely does not sound right. I can not repeat the problem at will and I fear the dealer will not be able to locaate, unless it happens just as they close the door. The doors do close tight, but the sound is awful (sharp metal hitting metal sound).

View 2 RepliesAccent 2006. When I start the car and start to drive, the car rock on the driver's side. I think it's the driver's rear. Then the feeling of a flat tire is felt but the tire seems to be ok. Occasionally hear a loud noise like from the exhaust and when I stop at a stop sign or stop lights and release the brake the car does not move till the accelerator is pressed and it rocks again and moves. It has 99000 km on it.
View 1 RepliesYesterday on my way to work I accelerated after a stoplight and heard a pop, now my car sounds like a motorcycle going down the road. It sounds like its coming from the engine bay, I have time to get it fixed, but I need to know exactly whats wrong and roughly how much its gonna cost before I go get ripped off by a local mechanic. The car has 98000 miles on it, I honestly doubt its still under warranty.
