Has noticed that if you turn off the ignition with the directional on, a warning will come on and the directional will stay lit? I wonder why it does that?
View 1 RepliesMy aunt's toyota camry will only start if we hold the directional indicator down when turning the ignition on. I thought she was crazy when she told me but that's really the only way it will start! It's a 1999.
View 6 RepliesA couple weeks ago i started to get the "ABS", "ESP off", and a picture of a truck heading downhill "hill descent"? warning lights when i turned the ignition on. The warning lights would all stay on and this was happening about 25% of the time that i started the car. Once on they stay on until i turn ignition off. The owners manual states the when the "ABS" failure light comes on it automatically turns ESP off. So I tested to see if ABS really not working and sure enough i was able to get wheels to lock up and i smoked the tires pretty good.
I took car to dealer and they found a hard fault code for the ABS failure but they could not find anything wrong so they ended up cleaning all connections - whatever that means. That was yesterday. Today the warning lights all came back on.
I had this happen to me the other day and as it is outside of the usual for most cars, I thought I would mention it as it could lead to dead batteries if one doesnt pay attention to it.
If you turn off the Touareg with the directional blinker engaged, the parking lights on the side that the blinker was indicating will stay on after the car is turned off. The MFI iwill display PArking Lights ON.
When it first happened to me I started playing with the headlight switch to turn off the parking lights to no avail. I then cam to realize that it was the blinker that needed to be centered to turn them off.
I drive a 99 s/w 2 and this mourning when I arrived at work I got out of the vehicle and the bell that chimes when you leave the headlights on or the key in the ignition the warning chime would not turn off even though the keys were out of the ignition and the headlights were off, however it stops chiming when you shut the door.
View 2 RepliesI was having all the tell tale signs of the almighty ignition switch. No lights, wipers, heater fan. But I didn't have time to change it. The other day went to start it and nothing. I changed the switch I have headlights wipers blower fan now which is sweet. But the car still wont turn over.
View 2 RepliesI've just bought a 2.0D Santa Fe (I am UK based) and when I turn on the ignition the warning lights light up and then go off - which I believe is the light check.
However, the transmission warning light does not come on during this check period. Is there an easy way to test this? I'd like to know when the 4WD kicks in or there is a problem but don't know if there's a bulb fault or not.
(1) turn off the passenger air bag off warning noise?
(2) make it possible to start the newest Touaregs without depressing the brake? How do you like that "improvement"?
I have a 93 subaru impreza manual that when I turn the key on and push in the clutch it wont turn over. The coolant fans kick on and stay on and so i retrieved the codes and the coolant temp sensor was the dtc so I replaced the sensor and cleared the code but the fans still come on and the engine still does nothing. Also I can gear clicking noises throughout the engine compartment and dont know where its coming from.
View 8 RepliesMy 2002 F150 Screw has been giving me issues when trying to start it for the last month. Sometimes it will start sometimes it won't. When I turn the ignition on the gauges all seem normal, the theft light turns solid then goes out, but engine will turn over but not start. Sometimes it will start if I leave the ignition on for 20 seconds then pull the key and try again. (this doesn't always work). I have disconnected the battery for about 2 minutes this usually works but not always.
Sometimes it will start first time with no issues. Once the the engine fires it runs fine. Another symptom is when I shut the engine off, pull the key and open the door, the chime telling me that the key is still in the ignition sounds. (but the key is in my hand)
I put a new battery in yesterday to rule that out and because the old one seemed to be getting weak. (starting issues didn't go away). I don't want to put 300+ into a fuel pump without being sure that's the problem.
We have a 2004 2.4L 4 cyl Santa Fe. Turn ignition key get a click and engine will not turn over. Push key in harder and engine may start fine. If it is the key ignition switch or something else. is there somewhere I can look to see how to remove the ignition switch?

View 24 RepliesI have a 2007 Prius. Today it began showing an warning indicator light (car w/key symbol) and sounded the beeps it usually does when I forget to take the fob out of the ignition when leaving the car. However, I had taken the fob out.
Eventually, the battery drained as it does when leaving the fob in the ignition without running the car. Later, the warning light continued to blink, but the beeping stopped. The battery still drained. The local Toyota dealer said he has never heard of something like this.
Wondering if there is a relay for directional and hazards that would die.... I can see that the indicators in the speed/RPM gauge set do light up ever so weakly when I press the levers/button, but no power to the actual bulbs. Where is this relay/fuse?

She tried using a pen to push the little button in but it won't move and the key won't budge. What is she doing wrong, and why did this happen? Is the battery drained?
View 16 RepliesHad a directional bulb go out recently and replaced it without any problem. About 3 days ago it went again, I bought a 2 pack of bulbs - replaced it and drove on. Almost instantly right after I turned and signaled the right directional bulb blew again, I grabbed the extra bulb put it into plug and started car - first right turn with directional bulb blows again. I'm at a loss as to where this can be happening. Is this in the steering column or elsewhere, where do I even begin to look.
View 3 RepliesLately when i take my key out of the ignition, my radio stays on and my car will chime with the door open as if the key was still in the ignition (and it lasts for different periods of time). I also have found it more difficult to get the key in and out. Obviously there is something wrong with the ignition.
View 1 RepliesMY V8 Touareg with P+, Nav etc is in the shop today...My wife went to start it yesterday and the car completely went crazy...it would not start, the lights went crazy and finally the key was locked in the ignition....This is the second time this has happened...I'm getting pretty frustrated. Dealer was no support, they think we don't know how to start the car!
Anyway, looking into my State Lemon Law. Car is great, but don't want to spend $50K on a car that won't start and cause so many issues! Roadside has been called twice thus far. Tha car has 1,900 miles on it. The Tire gauge does not work, the memory seats don't work. I think the car is great, but too many issues.
My fuses on the directional (10 amp) and Hazard lights (15 amp) keep blowing out it just happened all of a sudden? What it can be? t 2004 R32....
View 1 RepliesI just purchased a 01 Passat and after about a week the directionals started to stick. I noticed that the flasher is incorparated with the 4 way flasher. If I wiggley the flasher or put on the 4 ways on for a brief second the directionals will work agin. Does this sound like a flasher concern or am I looking at bigger problems. I am no good when it comes to electrical. If it is the flasher I just called the local VW dealer and they have them in stock for 35 bucks. Are they hard to replace. Any special tools needed?
View 3 RepliesI have a 2.5 years old V6 Touareg with 56k miles. I went out of town for 5 days........Come back and the car is dead: meaning nothing is working, no electrical, nothing. I had to use the physical key to open the door lock. I then tried to start it - nothing and the key got locked in the ignition.
My question is - what can this be? A battery? If yes, how do I replace it? Any other resolutions? This never happened before in 56k miles. Not quite sure what to think. Is there a way to jump this car?
