Clunking noise heard during stop, start and sudden acceleration, sometimes very loud sometimes very soft or almost non existent. Hard to locate as well. Feels like I'm about to loose my axle!
My BMW is a 1995, 530I with 154000 miles on it.
So this vibration/ cluncking seems to be from between the front seats and mostly during off the line acceration, and from all I can find it's the flex disc, but my flex disc shows no signs of damage. Can these discs go bad without looking bad or is this possibly the hanger bearing on the driveshaft?
I am also looking for any other possibilities for the cause of this vibation/ clunking as there sounds like something is hitting the bottom of the car but there are no impact marks to show me where the issue is
My neighbor has a problem with her manual transmission 2002 Honda Civic. To avoid an accident she swerved the car and came to an abrupt stop. After that the car wouldn't start and had to be towed home. After it was sitting overnight I tried to start it. No luck. The engine didn't even try to turn over, no clicking, no nothing. What's going on? What can she expect when it's towed to a garage?
View 13 RepliesOn a recent snowy drive from Chicago back home to Detroit, our 2013 Dodge Journey (6 cylinder AWD) started to make a screeching sound. My husband said it sounded like a belt. The sound would come and go. Due to the snow we were not able to go much over 45mph on the hwy. About 30 min after hearing the noise the first time, the car all of a sudden lost almost all acceleration. Not great when you are in the middle lane in snowy weather. We were able to get to the shoulder. After letting the car idle for a short time (3-4 min) in park and stepping on the gas peddle while in park, we took off again.
As long as we kept our speed 45-55mph for a short time the car would started to drive normal for 45-60 min, until it would happen again. One time we did not let the car rest for the normal 3-4 min and we were back on the shoulder again within a few min. The only warning light that came on once and then went out was the "check AWD" we have only driven the car locally a couple of times since, I was planning to take it to the Dodge dealership later this week. I fear this is a problem that is hard to duplicate, however this also concerns me as I normally drive a lot for work and often have several kids in my car on weekends.
For the last few weeks (about a month) I have been experiencing a clunking noise/ knock on acceleration coming from either in front of my feet or below my feet (drivers side) ONLY on acceleration and only then from a full stop. I can also feel the clunk as well which leads me to believe it is a transmission mount.....maybe an engine mount. I am taking her to the dealer after work today. we had some very cold weather and I was hoping it was just ice but yesterday and today were well above zero and it is still there and it is EVERY time I accelerate. Which is a somewhat good thing since I will be able to replicate the problem for Hyundai.....
View 17 RepliesI have a 2006 F150 with about 80k miles. It has a limited slip rear end. Under mild acceleration, "sometimes" there is a muted clunk at about 40-50mph. If I accelerate harder it does not happen. I cannot get it to happen at lower speeds. I cannot tell if its the transmission or rear end.
View 8 RepliesGf's 01 B5 Wagon(tip) has the clunking noise only on accelerating from a stop,does not do it any other time,does it in tip mode as well,tie rod ends,rotors and front brakes were replaced about 2 months ago,could this be a ball joint/control arm issue,I read as much on this in the other threads when I searched,no noise on turning or braking,possible mount issue?
View 2 RepliesI have a 2008 LS460 17,000 miles. I hear what I would describe as a clunking sound and feeling when coming to a complete stop. The noise and feeling is similar to worn suspension bushings. I took the car into my local dealer. After inspection they advised me there is a problem with my car because they heard the noise and feeling like I described. They also stated there is "no fix yet" per a service bulletin for the described problem. They also stated they don't know when a fix will be available.
It appears to be getting worse and my advisor stated he has another customer that's been waiting some time now for a fix. I'd really like to know the service bulletin so I can follow through with the repair by simply asking "Are the parts available for service bulletin 1234 yet? Perhaps others are also struggling with the same symptoms and yet to find a fix.
I have this horrible metal clunking noise coming off of my front end. I just had new brakes put on the car and the mechanic said everything looked good around the assembly. But now when I am approaching to stop, right as I apply a bit more pressure to the brakes before stopping, I get a soft clunk inside the car... but I feel it through the pedal. When the windows are down and I am going slow enough, I can hear it clink (clink, not clunk). It's a very metal on metal sound.... I thought of my control arms, however there is no sound what-so-ever when I steer left to right....
View 4 RepliesI have had my Tiguan about a month ago and it has started getting cold. I noticed that when taking a right turn at a stop sign, there is a very faint clicking noise (sounds like it is coming from the front left wheel). On my way home today, I turned right at a yield and the road was a little bumpy. When turning right, I heard a clunking noise coming from the same area. It does not always make this noise. The car is under warranty, but I am afraid if I take it to the dealership, they will just tell me they couldn't find anything.
View 4 Replies2007 Sonata 3.3. Crunching, clunking noise at low speeds, braking or accelerating away from stop lights. Noise disappears at speeds over 25-30 mph. Noise can be replicated by rocking car forward and backward while in park, with engine turned off. Rocking side to side does not reproduce noise. Bouncing car suspension at all four corners does not reproduce noise. Hood open, rocking forward and backwards, noise seems to be coming from behind engine, and with hand on engine motion can be felt. I'm thinking engine mount, but how can I get a good look at it to check?
View 3 Replies2013 accent auto My car rolls noticeably after parking unless the ground is completely flat. Parking brakes prevents it from rolling but I don't use parking brakes every time. Another brake problem I have is thump or clunk noise I get whenever I release a brake from stop.

This is not an engine knock but rather a clunking noise when I come to a slightly abrupt stop and sometimes when I take off or am steering. I have recently replaced my upper and lower ball joints and all the u-joints as well. My truck has a 6" Fabtech Coil over lift and a 3" body lift. The truck is also rather squeaky when going over speed bumps.

View 14 RepliesWe hear a horrible metallic clunking or cracking noise - only occasionally - when coming to a gentle stop, like at a stop sign. The noise is coming from the driver side front and happens more often when the car is stopping gently on a flat or slight downhill. It does not seem to happen when we stop on an uphill. It does not happen during sudden stops. A mechanic recently replaced the driver side tie-rod, thinking that would solve the problem, but it didn't. The same mechanic looked at the brakes and found no apparent problem. The sound is very loud and sounds almost like something is settling.
View 2 RepliesI took my truck in for a clunking noise in the driveline as I come to a stop and sometimes when shift into park. It is now the 7th and I'm told parts have been ordered and the truck will be worked on when parts come in. I asked to speak to general manager and still no call back. I called customer relations and nothing they can do.
Honestly I think the have me on the back burner since I'm warranty work opposed to marked up repairs. Am I being unreasonable on my expectations of repair time? I called around and a ring and pinion job is quoted at 3 days at the most. Other repairs have been approved as well and parts are in for those, but they have not actually repaired them either.
first off my truck is 2001 ford ranger 4x4 with an auto. transmission. when I'm driving around in 2wd, everything is fine...
when my 4wd high is on, and I'm starting from a deadstop my truck makes a weird "clunking" noise in the front end. If I'm stuck in mud or snow, and I give gas it keeps "clunking". where the problem comes from?
My Prius C II is at a little over 6,000 miles. I've noticed when I'm accelerating from a stop using the electric engine, that at around 11-15mph I hear a clicking noise coming from the left hand (driver) side of the vehicle.
To hear the sound my windows have to be down and my stereo not playing.
Is this clicking sound while accelerating normal? I know there's a clicking sound that happens when I start my car and when my car sits after parking for a second but this clicking noise sounds like its coming from the front left hand side... not inside the cabin.
People are complaining about sudden acceleration with the DSG transmission. They had to up the warranty to ten years and fix cars too. After I read that I realized my TDI DSG has this issue but I just chalked it up to my driving. Sometimes when you hit the gas the car jumps B/C it drops a gear when it's not called for. I can't picture VWoA even entertaining this. Does the phrase "operating as designed" sound familiar?
View 11 RepliesI have an 87 longbed Dakota that I bought new. It's my work truck. Lately it has developed a chirping noise that I hear best with the rear slider window open. I think it is safe to say that it is not coming from under the hood. When I accelerate from a stop the chirping noise increases in pitch and frequency. The frequency does not change when the auto trans up shifts. There has been no noticeable out-of-the-ordinary vibrations, even at freeway speeds.
I have stopped driving on the freeway since the chirping became impossible to ignore. The chirping becomes less and less audible the faster I go as the pitch and frequency increases. When just starting from a dead stop, it sounds like a metallic scraping noise. Whenever I take my foot off the gas the chirping stops, even when still coasting, so it only occurs under load. It does not occur when the truck is stopped and the engine is revved.
The owner of the car claims that there was sudden unintended acceleration, and it was 09' Sonata.

I thought this should be very concerned to us, since we all drive 11' sonata & up. I heard Hyundai installs some kinds of system to prevent this incident to all cars manufactured after May of 2012.
