I have a 05 dodge Ram that periodically wont start after I stop at a store etc. It happens about once a month and will start up after sitting for 1-8 hours.Ive had it to the dealer , diesel mechanics, etc. with no luck,( Cant reenact the problem and nothing shows on the computer).

Every time the mechanic tried to start it worked just fine. It appeared to happen more under the following circumstances: drove day before, hot the day of, cooled down and then won't start. I just recently picked it back up and it's been starting fine...which leads to the theory that it's connected to hot weather...but I expect to have problems in the future and the fear of getting stranded is not nice.
PS. Car has 90K miles, regular oil changes but not sure what else (a "hand-me-down" that got lined up with the others in my parent's driveway to change the oil - I don't know if my sisters did any major work on it and we've all switched cars so much it's hard to remember what had what done.)
I have a 2001 Dodge Durango with the 4.7 liter V8. I recently changed the spark plugs and it ran for a few days misfiring periodically. Then overnight after a good day of running it would not start. The engine will rotate but not fire. I changed the individual coils but only to get the same result. I think that I may have the wrong spark plugs but where to go next.
View 6 RepliesI have 05 Caravan, 4 cyl, 115k. Runs fine (just got back from a 2000 mile trip) that seems to have a quirk or something with the AC.
When I have the AC on and stop at a light, it feels like it hesitates several times. I almost think it'll stall (never has). I usually end up turning off the AC while we're at the light, and start it back up when I accelerate. When the AC is off, there is no hesitation. Also, If I put it in park, and we have the AC on, no problem. I rarely, if ever, have the recirculation going.
One thing of note: I usually wait until I'm out of our neighborhood and on the main street before turning it on. That means the windows are down until I turn it on. When I do, occasionally I hear a sound that best can be described as similar to the sound of loosening a tight lug nut. Still, as long as I'm driving, there is no hesitation and it cools fine.
I've had this '96 Dodge Caravan for just over a year now and suddenly I go to try and start it and it will almost start but then stop. All my dash comes on like it supposed to but when I turn my key it just stuggles and makes a grinding noise. The only thing i know is my common sense is saying if it makes grinding noise dont keep trying you'll make things worse.

recently changed all plugs & wires as well as the coil pack to stop a sputter in the motor. it worked. now, very periodically and only for a split second i will loose all rpm and then back up again to normal. I was told that the computer may be going but i've plugged it in and it wont turn on a reader. other than that one hickup she runs like a dream now.
In the last couple of weeks I've been getting a whistle or whining noise I think from under my car periodically. It doesn't happen when I start the car, not when idling and starts at about 20/30 mph. I've had the car in the shop for regular maintenance, just replaced front bushings, put on new rear brake pads and new rotors. I've checked the car for anything that might cause wind since it comes and goes even while driving. Seems worse in hot, damp weather. Back to the dealer today because it was loud and they say drive shaft, but there is no vibration and the car is running very smoothly. It's driving me crazy when it happens because it almost sounds like a plane landing.
View 13 RepliesPeriodically the engine light comes on and then when I hit the gas it "stutters" and the car jerks - similar jerking feeling when you are learning to drive a stick shift but this car is an automatic. I have to take foot off gas pedal and keep slowly applying again to building up speed. The stuttering stops as soon as I take my foot off the gas pedal. Sometimes when I stop the car, turn it off, the light will turn off and the car drives great. Sometimes that doesn't work and the light stays on for a day or two then magically is gone when I start the car again. I have noticed the light comes on most often if I haven't warmed it up enough before driving, but other times it just comes on. I have taken it to two different Honda dealers and they don't know what the issue is.

View 7 RepliesI have a 2005 Dodge Durango, 5.2 liter hemi engine, 135,000 miles. For the last three months the car has emitted a high-pitched whine when the engine starts, while the transmission shifts through the gears, and while the car is at speed. The tone remains the same as the car runs, but it seems liked to the engine revs as the transmission shifts. A very reputable mechanic has tried to find the source without success. He's run all the diagnostics, and used a stethoscope. He checked the alternator and the power steering pump and replaced two belt pulleys, but the whine is still there. He so far has not been able to locate the source. He says he's heard the same noise on a couple of other Dodges or Jeeps with the same engine. I'd like to know what's causing this whine and how to fix it.
View 8 RepliesI have a 2013 Avalon Hybrid and am having trouble while using the cruise control. The "sensor needs cleaning" goes off although the sensor has been cleaned several times. Also, the sensor sometimes doesn't register a vehicle in front of me. The Avalon has been looked over by the dealer (several times), the sensor was replaced but the problem persists. Because it works periodically, it's difficult to diagnose a problem. Also, the PCS warning goes off periodically. Not sure if that's a related problem. It has gone off while driving through an intersection with traffic sensors (not consistently).
View 5 RepliesBought a 2001 Saturn SL2 a couple of years ago. I love it except for one thing. It won't start. Actually the problem was that periodically would not start. I had the mechanic check the connections to the starter and it was fine. When I turn the key ALL the electric stuff works just fine and then when you turn it the next notch to start it all goes off, as it should, till you release it then it all goes ack to normal. SO, being a standard, it was easy just to park on a slight incline, JUST IN CASE. Well a couple of months ago, I changed the tilt of the steering wheel and it solved the problem for nearly 2 months, THEN the problem started again and has not relented. This makes me think that the problem is in the steering column. What I need to look for once I get the cover off the column? I have been told that sometimes solder joints can come lose. I can solder so that would be an easy fix but before I tear into it.
View 5 RepliesPeriodically will not start. Lights, Dash lights, interior lights all work. Batteries completely charged up. Turn key to light up glow plug - working, when indicated turn key fully, Nothing. No click. Nothing. Two separate mechanic shops have tried to diagnose to no avail. Happens periodically and no indication prior to this happening. Happens in all types of weather and temps. I do not want to throw good money at replacing part after part only to find out the parts are good, such as a starter, etc. This has been going on for about a year.
View 4 RepliesOkay, so I've been hearing this strange sloshing noise in my Jeep Liberty 2005. It happens when I start off from a stop and usually around 15mph. It seems to be coming from the front of the vehicle (engine). And I'm not the only one that has heard it so I'm not crazy.
View 3 RepliesI have a 2006 Kia Sedona with about 85k on it. About 2 months ago it began not starting (no engine turn over whatsoever). I took it to the dealer and they could not get the problem to repeat. When I pressed the service manager he told me to "bang on the fuse box" while trying to start it. Oddly, that seems to work. Something about the power relay (I might have the terminology wrong here). Last week my (1 year old) battery died. Another Kia dealership also found nothing wrong with the van but also mentioned the power relay as a possible cause of the period non-starting but didn't think that could damage the battery. Car is yet again, not starting sometimes. Banging on the fuse box as per the first service manager still works but this is not a permanent solution. Don't want to spring for a new power relay (??) since they can't definitively diagnose that.
View 3 RepliesAfter setting the climate to 70F, Auto, and driver controlled for all occupants, start-up volume adjusted, e.t.c, I press the "STORE" button under the user profile settings. The key has been synced.
Every time i start the car up, it maintains these settings. If I press the big round knob on my name, it goes to these settings (my name, and assigned key icon)
However, if Im driving, and lets say, i adjust the temperature to 76F, then maybe later starts to get too hot, or cold, and I want to go back to my stored setting, it does not, it just stays on the new temperature. If I change the temperature manually again (2nd time), and I press the stored setting, it goes back to the setting i just had, which should NOT be stored. It usually just ignores the stored setting.
I also noticed that you can either press the large round knob, or the bottom right tap button where it says "SELECT" for your stored settings.
Had my first hiccup, and it's little disconcerting. Usually about every two weeks I take my car through a car wash and I have to put the car in N-no big deal, no messages.
This go-around as I was nearing the end of the wash, the Master Warning and the traction battery lights gets thrown, with the message on the display saying I should put the car in Park. Well, naturally you can't do that inside this car wash, so I waited until after I exited and checked the charge display: one purple bar.
So I hit the freeway and within 5 minutes I go all the way up to all Green. So I go from one bar to almost 8 bars in under 5 minutes? I find this rather odd that all of a sudden I get this behavior.
Here's my question: when this happens, does the car store a DTC code?
Thought I would check and see if it's possible to store a Carburetor. Have a Holley 4160 that I rebuilt and would like to keep as a backup. Thought since the carb has not been installed the gaskets and seals may not be an issue. Other option, swap the Carb on my truck every few months.
View 4 RepliesI have a 2003 Camry 4 cylinder with an exaust leak. On first morning start after the rpm drop to 500 the engine will shake periodically until I drive about half a mile then all is fine. I cleaned the trottle body at the area of the flap with throttle body cleaner and a tooth brush, and gave the car a tuneup. The problem went away for about 4 days but is back. What can I do to fix this.
