I recently bought an 07 Dodge Grand Caravan and noticed that when we shut the rear door(trunk? hatch? whatchamacallit?) it makes an incredibly loud noise...almost like a gunshot. It seems as though the back glass is lifting off a bit and then slamming down. Is that something I can fix on my own?
View 4 RepliesWe have a 2003 Dodge Grand Caravan which keeps on shutting off or sometimes will not start up. When it has problems starting up, there is no turn over of the engine. Just nothing. After awhile, it will start up. During driving, it will just shut off. At first it would start right back up but now it will not start right back up. We have replaced the computer and the crank shaft sensor. We have taken it to two dealerships and they do not have any ideas as to how to fix it beyond what we have done. Our mechanic is baffled. He has checked the wiring and sensors but cannot find the problem.
View 3 RepliesI have a 2006 Dodge Grand Caravan. Back in November 2014 my car began giving me trouble starting, making clicking noises when I turn the key. My mechanic told me I needed an alternator so I had him install one. A few weeks after that I had the same problem. He told me a wire leading to the alternator was bad and he replaced it. A few weeks after that the exact same thing happened. He said another wire was bad. I asked him to check all the wires, which he says he did. Back in June of this year my car started giving me problems starting again. Every now and then it would click when I turned the ignition key. Finally, I went back to my mechanic and this time he said I needed a new starter. This was July. Then, last week, my battery light came on while I was driving. Long story short, I had to replace my alternator again. It's only been 9 months! Coupled with all this, both my back lights are out; my right turn signal is out, most of the time, every now and then it works, and sometimes my windshield wipers won't come on.

View 5 RepliesI have a 2004 Dodge stratus recently it makes a really loud noise for like 15 seconds then stops if I have the heat or air on. If I don't have it on it doesn't make the sound but either way after 15 mins of driving white smoke will come out of the passenger side and a funny smell. It starts fine isnt overheating, and drives fine.
View 4 RepliesOver the last few weeks I've been hearing what sounds like a failing pump of some sort when shutting off my '06 GX470. The sound lingers for just a moment after the ignition is cut off, and sounds like a loud, very fast tatatatatatatata. It doesn't always do this - sometimes I don't hear anything. I've been commuting in the GX for four years and I've only been hearing this intermittent occurrence over the last 3-5 weeks.
What this might be? Fuel pump? Air leveling suspension pump?
I have a 2012 dodge caravan bought new. After about 6000 miles the left rear brake began making a grinding noise, only when applied, every time the car sat more than a few hours, that goes away after about 2-3 miles. It began in winter and continues into the warm and dry days of spring now with 9000 miles total. Had it to dealer twice and inspection found no malfunction so they say its from rust build up because it goes away all the time and is nothing to worry about. It does not occur with the other wheels. My niece has the same van, in same geographic area and does not have this problem. Does this selective rust build up explanation make sense? Previously burned with bad brakes on a caravan, so am skeptical.
View 7 RepliesI just completed a front brake job on a 2007 Dodge Grand Caravan, installing new rotors and pads. Right front rotor and pad installation went perfectly. Left front - I heard a faint "hiss" as I compressed the caliper piston using a c clamp. In addition, as I placed the new inner pad against the caliper/piston, I noticed that the piston had become slightly "uncompressed," meaning it moved back out a little bit on its own. I compressed it again with a c clamp and had to rush to get the caliper back in place with the new pads in place before the piston SLOWLY worked itself back out and I wouldn't be able to fit the caliper around the new rotors and pads. I completed the brake job, pumped the brakes, and took it for a ride - all seems fine. The pedal is not spongy and it does not travel all the way to the floor.
Do I have anything to worry about? This is my 6th brake job in total. This is my first brake job on this vehicle. The slight hiss and the fact that the caliper piston did not stay seated after I compressed it bothers me.
My 2007 Dodge Grand Caravan with a 3.8L engine won't shift going up hill. On any incline, it stays in the gear it was in when the incline starts and will never upshift. So we're stuck going 20 to 25MPH up hill. Once we get to the crest of the hill, it shifts to the next gear and we're good to go. From a standing still on flat land, if I nail the accelerator pedal, it also won't shift, I have to back off the accelerator, and it will upshift normally. What's up with this?
Have engine light on and the code indicates a bad EGR valve, and possibly a bad catalytic converter, but Autozone indicated that a bad EGR can also produce a code for a bad catalytic converter. They recommended replacing the EGR valve first, then see if the code comes back. But they didn't know if this would cause a loss of torque, which might be related to the shifting problem.
My car - a 2007 4 cylinder Hyundai Sonata - is making loud screeching sound more than occasionally but not all the time at high rates of speed (70 - 75 mph) and ESPECIALLY when I am exiting the highway to go to the train station and I turn to the left on the exit ramp. Never the right - only the left, and it stops immediately when I touch the brakes.
About 6 weeks ago, I had 4 new tires put on, and thought maybe they were not installed properly. I saw a mechanic today who put it up on the lift and said everything looks in good order and he could not find anything wrong with the driver's side front wheel, which is where it sounds like the noise is coming from. Of course, when we drove around in it, there was no noise. In fact, after I dropped him off and went to the train station it DID make the noise, so I turned around, picked him up and drove back exactly the same way - no noise.
It is a very, very loud uninterrupted screeching sound.
I own a 2007 Dodge Ram Pickup (3500). One day it started by itself while parked outside in the driveway. It drove into one of my other pickups and pushed it into my side by side. It finally pushed both aside and was headed toward the house but was stopped by a tree. I heard a loud crashing noise so I looked out the window and saw what was happening. I jumped into the pickup to try and turn it off but the key wasn't turned on. I put the clutch in and took it out of gear but it just reved up more. The horn was blaring and smoke boiling out. I turned it off by opening up the hood and unhooking the battery cable.
View 18 RepliesIf I am moving in reverse and tap the brake I hear a clunk from the rear of the car. If I continue in reverse and then again apply the brake then no clunk. If I drive forward and stop, no clunk. If I then shift into reverse again and apply brake I get the clunk again. Had the struts/shocks replaced but no change.
View 5 RepliesDriving our 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan which we love. We have 118,000 miles on the odometer now and a dent or two but otherwise it's in great shape. About 2 years ago, we started to notice a high-pitched "whining" noise on our way from Michigan's Upper Peninsula to Florida. We were driving in the fall in the lovely Smoky Mountains. The weather was hot, the air conditioning on and the van working hard to climb the mountains. We stopped for gas, and then as we started driving again noticed this whining noise when pressing on the accelerator.
The noise did not stop until the next morning when the car was completely cool, but started again when it heated up. This whining continues to happen every time the car is driven long distances/gets very warm. Our Michigan mechanic thought it was the alternator and replaced the alternator and coolant tube in 8/2012 but that did not work. Our mechanic flushed the transmission and replaced the fluid in 5/2013 but that did not work. Neither of them could tell us what causes this noise. Should we just continue to drive it this way or go to another shop?
Sometimes I'll walk my wife out to the garage in the morning when she is leaving for work. When she starts up her 2006 Dodge Grand Caravan FWD sto n go I hear a clicking noise for about 2 seconds. To me it sounds like the lifters prior to getting the oil delivery. I was wondering if that was going to eventually cause some engine damage and also if there is a problem with the oil pump or something like that. Is this a problem that I should check into or is this normal for this van. We hit a deer several months ago and the whole front end was wasted. I don't remember hearing this clicking sound when the van was newer.
View 10 RepliesThis is going to sound odd but here is the case: When accelerating in car from 0 mph to about 10-15 mph there is a noise coming from the rear. It sounds as if it is coming from the axial or something because it does it once every revolution. But the wierd thing is is that it does it louder when it rains or any moisture is in the air!
We had back right bearing replaced. But still makes noise. Don't think it is rock or tire because it only does it sometimes when speeding up. And does it very loud when raining or humid
I recently had to replace my drive belt on a 97' dodge grand caravan sport 3.3 engine. The belt shredded and this is how i knew i had to replace it. Since i replaced it i notice a whine type of noise that increases in pitch as the engine is accelerated. The other thing I've noticed is that all electrically related operations work better as it is accelerated. For example, the air blows harder, the wipers move faster, and the lights brighten. Now i honestly can't say that it didn't do this before i changed the belt. I wonder if a bearing is going out on a pulley. I have noticed the same behavior on my daughters 98 sable. Also note that i did get all of the pieces of the old belt out from the pulleys and i did spin each of them to make sure the were moving without any resistance.
View 8 RepliesMy mom was driving to pick me up and she said that all of a sudden about half way here that the car started making a knocking sound and white smoke started coming from hood, the car was also trying to shut itself down while she was trying to pull over. It is a 2000 ford taurus with like 130k. I am so scared that it is the head gasket because my mom, myself and my daughter, and my 16 year old sister all share that car to get around. Is there anything else it could be besides that or is that probably what it is?
View 19 RepliesA loud throbbing noise suddenly started last night in the rear speaker of my 2010 Santa Fe. I think the speaker is blown. Can I pull the fuse until I can get this to the dealer? Which fuse? I can not locate a fuse map. I tried #13 and #31 based on an old fuse map online but the noise continued.
The noise is loud and I can't drive with my toddler in the car.
When the car is in a situation where there is a twisting force, such as entering an inclined driveway from an angle, a loud POP is sometimes heard from the rear of the car. The intensity of the POP varies dependent on speed and angle of incline, higher speed/greater incline/decline produce a louder POP.
