Ford Brakes/Suspension :: 2005 F150 - Rough Chatter Noise And Vibrations In Rear End?

I have a rough chatter noise coming from the rear end. It happens when starting off up till about 25mph. It rattles the cab a little and sounds real rough. It also happens when turning up hill, causes lots of vibrations in the cab. Some have mentioned it could be the rear differential needing a friction modifier or the u-joints needs some special lube? Its an 05 F150 with 62K miles.

Celica :: 2005 GT - Significant Vibrations When Stopped At A Signal

I get significant vibrations when stopped at a signal or stop sign. I don't get them in park or neutral. I ran Seafoam through the car once and it went away for about a day and then came back.

Now the catch. Had several shops check the motor mounts. All said they were fine. Could it still be the motor mounts?

Mercedes - Benz :: 2005 - Making Vibrations When Turning

I have a 2005 C-280 4Matic wagon that I purchased used a year ago. In the last few days I've noticed a vibration and low frequency growl when I turn into a parking spot, pull out of said spot while turning the wheel, doing a K turn etc. It's the kind of sound you hear on 4 wheel drive cars when the wheel is at it's maximum revolution during a turn.

I can't tell if this has always been happening and I am just noticing it now, or if something happened!

Camry :: 2005 2.4L 4cyl - Smoke At Cold Start And Vibrations At 40MPH

After fixing a misfire on cylinder 4 (bad plug) I find two other problems on a 2005 Camry I bought recently. It has 88k miles (bought at 85k) has new plugs, air filter, and oil changed recently.

When I start the car in the morning a puff of blueish smoke comes out and doesn't come back until it gets started again after getting cold. Has a strange chemical smell. Also when it starts it shoots up to 2k RPMs and slowly goes down to a notch below 1k after a minute or two.

The other thing is that when cruising at around 40MPH and just holding that speed the car will start to vibrate intermittently. Not just the steering wheel or anything, it's felt throughout the car. I also notice that the RPMs fluctuate slightly, just a notch up and down as the vibrations come and go. If I let go of the gas it stops, if I accelerate, it stops.

Ford - F150 :: 2005 - Shaking When AC Is On?

I have a 2005 f150, when my AC is on (it's summer in the south so yes it's on constantly) my truck shakes. The best way to describe it: you know when you're at an idle, and the vehicle wants to stall out and it has that shake to it? That's what my truck does when the AC is on, I mostly feel it when there is no gas applied. Also my AC makes a horrid sound when idling (like a loud pop now and then) and unless I'm driving, it won't blow cool air.Why?! Simple fix or time for a new AC?

Ford - F150 :: 2005 - Rear End Vibration

So I have a very annoying vibration in a 2005 Ford F150 FX4 5.4L w/ approx 122k miles. This 'rear-end' vibration became noticeable about a year ago when I put a new set of tires on. And just for the record, this vibration was never a problem beforehand. So it should be obvious that I have bad tires right? Thus, I instantly go back to tire dealer and explain the situation. They took it apart and checked balancing on all tires and confirmed that they were fine. So after dealing w/ it for a few weeks and rotating the tires around a few times and experimenting with pressures nothing worked. This time we noticed the U-joints were now loose on the driveshaft, which we then replaced. But this didn't fix the issue. I then took it to a separate Ford dealer to have the tires 'road force' tested, which nothing found.

I then had Ford dealer try to diagnose the issue with several trips back and forth with their apparent 'best' people on it. I went on numerous test drives explaining the issue. The vibration only seems to be noticeable on road and with speed. Not in the shop in the air. It seems to be pinpoint approx. 50-55mph. and minimal at lower speeds. Also seems to get worse with turns and bumps in the road. You can literally watch the bed of the truck vibrate in the mirrors. (also seems to be more on drivers side) It doesn't affect the steering or anything in front of vehicle.So Ford also had me come back another time to use a special vibration analyzer on it, which still found nothing. They checked ball joints, suspension, you name it. The only fix they could recommend was a new driveshaft, which I regretfully accepted the challenge and now it's sitting in my garage. It didn't work. I ended up taking my original shaft to a balancing shop and they found no issues with it. Also looked at front/4x4 shaft, however, it doesn't engage with normal driving 4x2 so shouldn't be the cause. Approx. 6 months later, I went back to same tire shop and had them exchange tires with a completely different set (factory recommended size LT275/65/18) thinking it still had to be the tires- no fix.

So then on to other things: I started with changing out the rear differential fluid- no fix. I also put on new rear brakes and rotors- no fix. I put on new rear shocks- no fix. I also took off the parking brakes and inspected all cables and housing, which could apparently stick sometimes- no fix. I cleaned all contact areas of wheels and rotors onto the wheel studs to be sure there were no abnormalities- no fix. I even took off the front 2" leveling kit and tried driving without, no fix. (But this was never a problem before.) Keep thinking it could be something more deep in the rear-differential, but most reports say it would be very rough and noisy/grinding-which it isn't. So after probably 6-7 trips to at least 3-4 shops and perhaps $600 later I now have newer tires and a spare d-shaft, which Ford won't take back by the way, and I still have the vibration.

Ford F-150 (2004-2008) :: 2005 F150 Misfire When Under WOT

My 2005 F150 crew had a misfire when under wot. I had been putting off the diagnosis fee for months, but I finally bit the bullet. Found out my number 3 coil was bad and the number 3 cylinder was dropping out. Dealer swapped out coil and truck runs better now. Still have to get plugs done. Truck has 88000 miles. Already had the cat replaced and didn't want to go through that again.

Ford - F150 :: 2005 - Whistle / Howl Sound At Certain Speeds

I have 140,000 miles on my 2005 F-150 and for the past year I have noticed a somewhat high-pitch whistle or howling sound coming from either the front or underneath. The pitch and volume continuously varies as though it is just tire howl, but I just changed all four tires and no results. It gets much louder at about 65 mph and 78 mph, but I don't hardly hear it at any other speed. My brother says it's just a wind whistle, but I strongly disagree as it doesn't change when i drive against or with a strong wind. I rely on this pickup for work and can't afford to be without it for more than a day or two, so, for peace of mind at least, I would like to know what is making the sound.

Ford - Stalls - F150 :: 2005 - Engine Stops When Slowing Down

I have a 2005 Ford F150. The engine sometimes quits when I slow down to stop for a stop sign or slow down to make a turn. I shift into neutral and it starts up and I am on my way again. This is an intermittent problem. Of course, it has never done this for a mechanic. It will happen 6 or 7 times in one day, and then won't fail for 2 or 3 days. The Ford dealership has replaced the air flow sensor. Did not work. They now think it is the throttle body that should be replaced. I am reluctant to replace this as they are not getting any codes from the computer telling them it is failing. They are not getting any codes related to this issue at all.

Ford Exhaust System :: 2005 F150 - CEL Came On For Code P0420

Had the check engine light in the 2005 F150 (90,000 miles) come on. Got the code checked and its P0420. I know that has to do with the cat threshold levels etc. So I believe I am looking to replace the o2 sensor, if I am not mistaken.

How hard of a job is this? Ive done a decent amount of engine work. Just looking to see if that is the right thing to try first, replacing the sensor, before replacing the cat.

Also I know its the right bank, but if I am not mistaken there is a before and after the cat o2 sensor, which do i replace? Both?

Ford F-150 (2004-2008) :: 2005 F150 5.4L Hesitation Under Load

How's it going? I have a 2005 F150 with the 5.4L V8. It has 70,000 miles on it and until yesterday and has been a great truck. While driving in traffic yesterday the truck started running rough and hesitating. It through two codes - misfire cylinder 5 and misfire cylinder 6.

In response, I purchased two new coils and 8 new autolite plugs. The plug installation went smoothly and the coils all went on without incident. However, this didn't fix the problem!

The next day I found that cylinders 5, 6, 7, and 8 were all having issues. At this point I also had an "O2 stuck lean" code so I pulled the plugs and found all four brand new plugs fouled and smelling like gas and an ehaust that smelled like raw fuel. This led me to replace the O2 sensor on the drivers side. With the new O2 my lean code disappeared but I still had a rough idle.

Further troubleshooting found that injector 6 was stuck open (which presumably fouled my O2 causing it to read lean and dump fuel thus fouling all the plugs on one side). I replaced the injector and the rough idle disappeared and all seemed really well as the truck idled in my driveway.

However, as soon as I hit the road I noticed a major hesitation. The motor is also noticeably louder and has a very hard time accelerating. I'm thinking that I've plugged up my cat by dumping so much fuel in to it and the hesitation is caused by a lack of breathing - does this sound possible? How would I confirm this without replacing the cat? Anything else I should look for? I'm fairly confident I have combustion in all 8 cylinders now so I'm leaning towards intake/exhaust issues.

The splines and everything match up but the plug for the cruise control does not, need a wiring diagram or have done the swap and can tell me what wires connect where.

Ford Excursion :: Vibrations When Going More Than 35 Or So

A few weeks ago I hit a large pothole while going around a slight curve at about 55 mph. I heard a loud pop and the truck jumped to the left. About a week later I starting noticing some vibrations. It happens when I'm going more then 35 or so and when I hit a bump or unsmooth surface and it will keep vibrating until I hit another bump, the other way to make it stop is to slow down to less then 20. I can feel the vibration pulsing less as I slow down utility it stops meaning it's definitely speed related not engine related.

So I took it to the shop. The found the passenger side front (the part that hit the pothole) shock was leaking, upper ball joint was toast (a lot of play) and the outer tie rod was loose (not as bad as the ball joint but bad enough). And the bump stop I installed about 7 or 8 months ago was gone.

I picked up the Ex yesterday after having everything replaced (did the lower ball joint as well, I figured might as well once it's all taken apart). While driving today, the video ration is still there. So I pulled into the nearest gas station and took a look at the front end. I noticed the driver side hub is still locked (even though it's on auto, probably have a leak in the vacuum line somewhere). So I pulled both auto hubs just for the heck of it and kept on driving. Now I barely feel the vibration.

So the question is, is my front differential causing the vibration? I don't believe it's the hubs, when it was at the shop I personally (and the mechanic) shook the wheels right and left and up and down and besides for the play in passenger side wheel from the ball joint, everything else seemed tight. I recently did the u joint on the same wheel and the stabilizer bar bushings. This is my work vehicle so when it really slows me down when it's in the shop.

Ford Excursion :: 2001 V10 - Bad Vibrations When Hit A Bump

Continuing to find little easter eggs with my new to me 01 v10 excursion.

This issue is a bad vibration that feels like it's coming from the middle of the truck. It starts when I hit a bump and usually goes away when I hit another, but not always. At first I thought it was the road, then the transmission, but now with it starting when I hit a bump, I'm thinking a U-Joint on the driveshaft.

I considered the front axle u-joints but it doesn't matter which wheel I hit the bump with, be it a pot hole or man hole cover or seam in the road.

I'm not sure where to start. I'm doing the trans flush tomorrow and dropping the transfer case to see where that's leaking, so I'll be under there to try and figure it out.

Ford Excursion :: Steering Noises And Vibrations

The truck, 2001 X, 7.3l diesel 4x4, with a couple of enhancements. (Link to original post of truck... [URL] ... )

Here is the issue, on this mornings drive to work the front end started to make a lot of noise. The noise (which was minimal) was originally thought to be caused by a front wheel bearing that was just replaced, Today it got really loud, and the steering wheel started to shake as well.

Pulled over, disengaged the hubs and the noise and vibrations went away. First thought would be that the U-joints need to be checked and possibly/probably replaced. That would be the simple solution. However, if it is not the u-joints, what else could it be?? Issue with the front differential???

Ford F-150 (2009-2014) :: Vibrations At Highway Speeds 55 MPH Or Higher

Lifting 09-13 F-150 with the two piece drive shaft. I am getting a lot of vibrations at highway speeds(55mph or higher). I have a Pro Comp 6 inch lift that was installed while I was stationed in Alaska. I have the drive shaft spacer that goes on the drive shaft at the pinion. I also have a carrier bearing drop kit from BDS that I am currently experimenting with (trying to find the sweet spot). I am at a loss though because my truck is no longer fun to drive. I drive an hour to work one way and it blows that my truck feels as though it will rattle apart. I have tried doing all the research that I can find about this issue.

Ford 7.3L Power Stroke (1999-2003) :: Vibrations On The Floor Board

Okay I'm also having issues with vibrations on the floor board. I replaced the carrier bearing last week and not sure if correctly done or maybe I didn't get the splines in the exact order they came out in but the vibration is still there if not worse. I was thinking I could order a new rear drive shaft for around 350.00? would it matter how it was installed?
